Will Hurricane Ophelia manage to hit the UK?

Not been much in the news about it yet, other than a few small articles. Anyone else notice it's due to be getting very close to the UK?

Looks like it's still meant to be hurricane strength when it hits Ireland early next week, before taking a swipe at Scotland. I thought the water was meant to be too cold and they normally fizzle out into winter storms.

First British hurricane since Debbie in 1961?

Im fairly confident the burnt smell isn't coming from california, if you look where Ophelia came from it was down by the azores.

Ps mn your adverts are making it seriously difficult to post from my phone today.

butterflymum · 16/10/2017 10:40

For all those mentioning smell of burning - perhaps the storm is pulling this from the forest fires in Portugal and Northern Spain?

Met Office have extended Amber warning to cover parts of mainland UK now too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2017 10:41

Will tackle the sun question later. Stupid adverts

mrsquagmire · 16/10/2017 10:44

The sun's even a weird peach colour in Staffordshire. Otherwise everything's reassuringly dull.

PortiaCastis · 16/10/2017 10:45

Getting windier and yes strange smell, ndns didn't take their gazebo thingy in and it's gone for a trip somewhere

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2017 10:50

I think the orange glow and the smell may possibly be linked both to thE Portuguese fires and also Saharan dust that has been pulled up.

StewPots · 16/10/2017 11:04

Getting the burnt smell and red sun here in South Devon. Currently 18 on the temp app, winds slowly picking up.

DH is not out sailing today but is on the Pontoon fixing the bilges so I bet he's bouncing about down below a lot today.

mumof06darlings · 16/10/2017 11:18

Very wild now in cork. We still have power but a lot around us are out. Our trampoline took off even though we had it secured as we thought and our timer bunker went galavanting but I think we are ok. It's just mental. Trees are down in places but thank god that there is no bad structural damaged reported yet

Smashpumpkin · 16/10/2017 11:20

mumof06darlings Keep safe!

I’m back for a bit :) 156kph, that’s almost 100mph. I’ll have a look and check out the latest. Back soon...

fairyofallthings · 16/10/2017 13:10

It went very hot and humid here in the west of england earlier, the red sun was obscured for a while. Now it's less humid, lighter and there is a bit of wind - not as much as earlier though.

fairyofallthings · 16/10/2017 13:11

This beach on the 'Wild Atlantic Way' isn't looking very wild at the moment, I hope it stays that way.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2017 13:13

Looks like a sting jet might be under way, hence the higher than expected wind speeds.

Kofa · 16/10/2017 13:15

One woman has died in Waterford. A tree fell on her car Sad

fairyofallthings · 16/10/2017 13:18

Wasn't a sting jet what made the October '87 storm so bad?
