Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

It's just too damp for proper snow down where I am. :(

Had a very light snow shower in Manchester city centre at lunch time yesterday but nothing apart from rain since. It's very cold tonight

Perihelion · 12/02/2017 00:52

Just a wee bit too warm for snow here, shame as the horrible rain would have been an amazing snowfall.
But the wind's been brutal, 35mph+ gusts from the NE. No fun waiting for the bus tonight.

GloriaSmud · 14/02/2017 16:56

TheWeatherOutlook still thinks there might be a chance of cold weather returning late February/early March.

Delatron · 16/02/2017 16:00

Gah, I'm over it now. Would have loved some proper snow but I'm not interested in it happening in March! Cheeky early Spring heatwave would be most welcome..

GloriaSmud · 17/02/2017 16:23

It looks like winter is on hold for the moment as mild weather's on its way for the weekend/early next week.

leesmum · 17/02/2017 17:25

Gloria I keep hearing that the beginning of March will go very cold. Have you or Kitten seen anything to suggest this? Ta Flowers

GloriaSmud · 17/02/2017 18:45

leesmum I've seen this hinted at as well on some message boards. For the moment, looks like we could hit the mid-high teens on Monday but after that it gets colder in the north (could be quite stormy over Scotland) but still looks like we could still see 10-14C in the South. Towards next weekend (getting a bit far ahead here) temperatures look like returning to about average ~ 7/8C, with night time frosts especially in the north/Scotland.

After that, it sort of flips between spells of warmish days and chilly days. The metoffice's forecast sort of says the same but (highlighted bit) there's a small chance of a cold spell later on. So we'll see......

UK Outlook for Wednesday 22 Feb 2017 to Friday 3 Mar 2017:
As we head through the end of February and into March, it's likely that we'll see mild and unsettled conditions continuing as we look to the Atlantic as the main influence on the weather. Bands of rain will move east, interspersed with brief colder, brighter and showery interludes with a risk of snow in the north. It will be breezy for many, with the strongest winds likely across the north and west, where there may be gales at times. The driest conditions will often be in the southeast. In any lighter winds between weather systems though, there will be a chance of overnight frost and fog. Overall, temperatures will most likely be above average for mid to late February, however in the strong winds, it'll feel colder at times.

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Mar 2017 to Saturday 18 Mar 2017:
For early March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow expected in the north. There will however also be some drier and brighter spells; particularly in the south and east where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be a little above normal for the time of year but there remains a small chance of seeing a more prolonged cold spell, which is most probable later in the period.

I've had a glance at the models, I'm not going to try and guess that far ahead Grin

Weather says it's raining. No it's snowing and going off the weather report from the next town over it's going to snow all night and into tomorrow morning.

Wtfdoipick · 02/03/2017 00:30

The snow here seems to mean business. There's some big flakes coming down and it's doing a decent job of sticking.

drinkswineoutofamug · 02/03/2017 00:35

You up north too?

drinkswineoutofamug · 02/03/2017 00:48

Now it's raining

Wtfdoipick · 02/03/2017 00:51

I am, sat up on the Pennines. We normally get a decent amount of snow here but the last couple of years have been a disappointment.

Wtfdoipick · 02/03/2017 00:56

Still snow here but not quite as big flakes. It is due to switch a bit between sleet and snow during the night. A decent covering in the morning and snow rather than rain falling would make for a nicer walk to school so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Ilikesweetpeas · 30/11/2017 19:21

Can we have a snow watch for this winter too?!!

SideOrderofSprouts · 30/11/2017 20:57

We had five seconds of snow in jersey

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/12/2017 07:34
