Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

I can't really see anything in the way of snow for the end of the week still.

Just not liking the weather at the moment - just so grey and meh!

myoriginal3 · 18/01/2017 11:55

It's freezing and sunny here

GloriaSmud · 18/01/2017 13:47

Embrace that sunshine if you've got it! We've just got this grey, slightly misty, occasional drizzle and freezing greyness here (Leicester) and it's forecast to be the same for the next few days!

4andout · 18/01/2017 15:35

I'm lucky as we have had glorious sunshine all day. At 7am it was -4.8c and it hasn't made it above freezing all day! I love sunny frosty days.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/01/2017 09:41

grey and meh is better than rain though. and better than frost when your heating system is buggered.

leesmum · 22/01/2017 09:24

Manchester has a teeny bit of snow coming down!!! 🌨

BeyondCanSeeTheEmperorsBellend · 22/01/2017 09:31

This stuff I have woken up to looks more snowish than frostish? This is pretty much the extent of it though Grin

Snow watch.
GloriaSmud · 22/01/2017 09:45

Leicester ~ We've woken up to a hard frost here (don't know what the exact temperature is as my weather station's broken but DH said his car was saying -3C)

Few snow flurries showing up here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2017 11:41

Amusingly the met office is showing light snow for Thursday morning in parts of the south.

OP posts:
seasidesally · 23/01/2017 16:14

dont they say its gonna get milder, its been so cold in the south this last week and very hard frosts

i usually enjoy the cold weather but just cant get warm,my heating is on 18 hrs a day and i still dont feel warm

GloriaSmud · 24/01/2017 16:30

Thursday's looking really cold - we have a 'high' of 1C forecast during the day! Xmas Smile

leesmum · 24/01/2017 17:02

Gloria is there any chance of the White stuff making an appearance in the next few weeks? Thanks Flowers

GloriaSmud · 24/01/2017 18:20

The rest of this week, there might be the odd flake as it's so cold leesmum but towards the weekend/early next week, it gets milder for the south (7-10C) but the hills of Scotland remain cold and they could get snow.
After that it stays chilly for Scotland/northern UK but see-saws a bit for southern areas with milder temperatures (10-12C) some days and chillier 6-8C others. There could be a wet/stormy period the middle of next week (Tuesday and Thursday look awful at the moment) for Wales/England but towards the end of next week, things calm down a bit and temperatures return to 6-8C.
So (as usual, hoping I've got some of this right!) Scotland might get some snow in the next week or two but for the south, not much of a chance at the moment.

Delatron · 26/01/2017 10:46

Randomly been snowing very lightly here in Bucks this morning. Fine flakes and only settling on cars. Not forecast on any site. Very strange!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2017 11:43

It's the equivalent of drizzle.

OP posts:
jalopy · 27/01/2017 08:10

We had a flurry of very light snow/flecks in North London yesterday for a brief time.

HesSpartacus · 29/01/2017 16:54

OYBBK - please can you categorically tell me that the charts are not telling us there is going to be a massive snow dump at the start of half term? I have a school reunion booked in the middle of the Derbyshire Dales & have been looking forward to it for months. Argh!! The one time I want the snow to bugger off...

seasidesally · 30/01/2017 14:45

it says in the Mail that a very cold snap for mid Feb Hmm

i dont mind as long as its not foggy etc like the last few weeks,i just couldnt get warm

HesSpartacus · 30/01/2017 21:40

It keeps coming and going on Netweather... I would quite like a big dump of snow on Friday 17th so I don't have to go home, though Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2017 21:48

Spartacus, there's a few half term dates this year, when is yours?

OP posts:
HesSpartacus · 30/01/2017 22:39

Between 11 - 19 Feb, OYBBK

GloriaSmud · 31/01/2017 21:01

GFS is going for slightly colder early next week and then getting colder towards the weekend. 'Tis a little way into the future but could be interesting to see what happens. Sounds like the Metoffice are going for unsettled but colder spells possible at the moment.

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Feb 2017 to Tuesday 14 Feb 2017:
Unsettled conditions are expected to dominate through the weekend, with rain and strong winds expected for all. There will be some wintry showers over northern hills but the rain and showers will tend to clear eastwards across the country through Sunday, with temperatures near or above average for most areas. The unsettled theme is then likely to continue through the remainder of the period, with bands of persistent rain followed by brighter and showery conditions. The winds will be strong throughout, with gales possible at times, especially in the west in particular. Although temperatures will be largely mild, there is likely to be some colder spells bringing the risk of wintry showers, mainly in the north.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 15 Feb 2017 to Wednesday 1 Mar 2017:
At the start of this period the most likely scenario is for more unsettled weather, with wet and windy spells interspersed with brighter, colder and showery interludes. There is a risk of gales at times, particularly in the west, where the heaviest rainfall is also most likely. Temperatures are expected to be above normal for the time of year for most, although with colder interludes more frequent across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Later in February and into March there are signs of a quieter and rather colder spell developing, but confidence remains low in the likelihood and details of this development.
