Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Rainy and windy in Cornwall this morning. Still a little bit hopeful...

notsomanky · 13/01/2017 08:34

On the Manchester /Tameside Boundary, 3 minutes from J24 of the motorway Dame

Gingerbreadmam · 13/01/2017 08:38

North east, borders of teesside, couple of inches! Eases off as get to central teesside thankfully.

Itsafunnyoldgame · 13/01/2017 08:38

Thick snow Northants Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 08:52

Yay Funny!!

coastal flooding thread Can't really overstate how potentially serious this is and I'm kicking myself for not highlighting it a couple of days ago when I first realised it was possible.

Thoughts with all those affected by the surge on the East coast Flowers

Sheffield - a sprinkling of snow at 6am, which has since been ground into ice on the higher ground (but lower roads are fine). I could get my car out in the snow showers first thing when it was all soft, but I can't get it back up the hill to my house!! Smile

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 13/01/2017 09:18

I really feel for anyone on the East Coast, it sounds nasty.

Light snow all the way to & from school. 18 month old ds was very excited by flakes landing on him & the older 3 loved it too. Thankfully, because of the snowfall overnight, it wasn't slippy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 09:20

Although we dont have much, it seems to have sent my two cats completely crackers. Its hilarious - they are zooming round in circles through the house, round the garden and back in through the cat flap to do another circuit of the house.

This is my back garden, it's mid calf level, lots of drifting overnight.

Snow watch.
Middleoftheroad · 13/01/2017 09:27

That looks beautiful howya (but hopefully not troublesome)

A bit here in Brum.but vlearing. Enough to cause me to do a handbrake skid down a hill tho. seconds aftet a car crashed into a fence on same stretch. be safe Smile

RatOnnaStick · 13/01/2017 09:37

Ours was mostly ice on the grass this morning but drive up the hill to school and it's a different matter. Snowmen everywhere!

DS1 (6) did a proper fall on his arse just before getting in the car - he looked a bit shocked, bless him. He looked at me sat on the ground and said "Shock Mummy! I landed on my buttocks ShockSad Grin" followed by a big laugh. I had to hold his hand all the way to the school doors after that (while my 4yr old ran ahead laughing).

basketofironing · 13/01/2017 09:40

It's attempting to start up again here. Braved the roads to take one of our cats to the vet (dental operation Sad) and though most of the roads are okay, our little cul-de-sac is an ice rink. Attempting a walk into town later for a coffee, hoping we get a little shower or too then, I love walking in the snow!

LuxembergerQueen92 · 13/01/2017 09:43

Kent calling..............snowed heavily for about an hour yesterday evening then froze, the roads were really treacherous this morning. It is now ominously dark here and a few small flakes are swirling. Well done OYBBK for forecasting this a week ago - you are better than the bloomin BBC! Grin

MNBirminghamLocalEd · 13/01/2017 10:04

I'm late to the party, but we had enough of a snow flurry in South Birmingham to enable ice-breaking on the pond and snowball ice/grass/mud - ball fights on the way to school. But it's melting very determinedly now Sad.

I've been ordered to bring sledges to school for the afternoon pick-up, but I think the DCs will be sorely disappointed. More is predicted tonight on the BBC though...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 10:26

snowing again :)

Luxemberger, don't worry, next time I'll probably get it wrong!

Snow here in SE London, but I don't think it's sticking around on the ground. Most of what came yesterday has gone leaving horrible ice!

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2017 10:38

Yay - more snow for you, OYBBK (I think you often miss out when snow arrives, don't you?)
We had about 2 hours of snow and got a fairly good covering.

Mentioned the bbc live updates last night but the Guardian have one running too for news on weather/flooding.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 13/01/2017 10:40

A light snow flurry has just started up here. The wind has really picked up too.

ghostspirit · 13/01/2017 10:46

Snow in southeast london. Not settling though shitty stuff. I need it to settle to use it as an excuse. Not to get the kids from school so I can stay in the warm. Need a snow dance.

MegBusset · 13/01/2017 10:46

Finally got some in Norfolk :) coming down quite hard so we'll see if it sticks. Forecast to turn to rain at 11, but yesterday's forecast was totally wrong so I have hope for a half decent covering!

LIZS · 13/01/2017 10:55

Coming down hard again here in Surrey and windy, but not really settling.

Littlemissindependent · 13/01/2017 11:01

Snowing and laying in Norfolk Grin dd3 is absolutely fascinated. First proper snow she's seen

Snow watch.
itsazoohere · 13/01/2017 11:11

So might we get more snow in the South East? Brighton-ish way? Last night was SUCH a let down!

SingingAvocado · 13/01/2017 11:17

Light snow has just started here in West Sussex (possibly not far from you itsazoohere). Last night we had a bit, mostly looked like lacey ice this morning. Pavements slippery.

itsazoohere · 13/01/2017 11:19

Ah, that's hopeful then-I bought a sledge in anticipation! Grin
