Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Temperature's falling slowly here (Leicester) already ~ was 5.7C at 1.30 this morning, 4.5C at 9.30am and now it's 4.1C. We have 1 snowflake forecast for 9am Friday ~ I'll make sure I'm about to see that one!

Metoffice forecast for the next few days:
Thursday:
Thursday will be cold and cloudy for many with further wintry showers in the east. The west will see the best of any sunshine, however it will also turn breezier.
Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Remaining cold and at times breezy making it feel bitter for many. Often cloudy with snow showers, perhaps becoming more widespread for a time over the weekend. (I like the sound of that bit!) Widespread overnight frosts.

And beyond (from update yesterday)
UK Outlook for Sunday 12 Feb 2017 to Tuesday 21 Feb 2017:
It will gradually turn less cold through the early part of the week. There is likely to be a lot of dry weather around, although it'll probably be rather cloudy. The best of any bright spells will be towards the west and northwest through the early part of the week, whereas some snow showers are likely in the east, with a small chance of these becoming heavier and spreading to central and some western areas. It will feel very cold in the easterly wind with a widespread night frost. Later in the period there is a chance of seeing some rain or snow affecting the west and northwest at times but elsewhere it should stay largely dry with snow showers becoming lighter and less frequent.

Hmm, I went out and bought v expensive salt at Tesco in sprinkle jars, and the snow flakes seem to have disappeared off my West Kent forecast! We will see. It's certainly going to be cold! I think I may turn my attention to making sure I have plenty of firelighters for the wood burner instead!

Titsywoo · 08/02/2017 20:07

Our snowflakes are back - I'm not happy! Why does it keep happening on Thursday? Friday would be much more convenient!

booface · 08/02/2017 22:03

Oh yes! My snowflakes are back too! Maybe we live in the same area. Sounds as if rush hour tomorrow might be a bit snowy round here. We will see!

Titsywoo · 09/02/2017 00:03

Mine have gone again! Grin

booface · 09/02/2017 07:28

Ha Ha, yes they have moved to tomorrow. Most elusive snow ever!

Titsywoo · 09/02/2017 07:31

The snow gods clearly heard my prayer Grin

PointlessUsername · 09/02/2017 09:15

The app is showing light snow for me but it is not on the website.

GloriaSmud · 09/02/2017 09:37

A dull, chilly (2.1C) Leicester signing in where we've had a few snow grains falling here this morning. We have 'light snow' forecast by the metoffice tomorrow at 7am and 4pm (I'm just expecting it anytime really) and sleet for Saturday.

Stokey · 09/02/2017 13:06

We've had a few grains falling in London too

Nothing that looks like sticking though.

DameDeDoubtance · 09/02/2017 18:54

OOoooo we have snowflakes for tomorrow night in East Kent!

booface · 09/02/2017 20:08

I'm starting to think these snow flakes are just a fiction of the forecasters imagination.... they come they go, but you never actually see them falling! Maybe tomorrow in West we'll see!!

DameDeDoubtance · 09/02/2017 20:19

Snowflakes now changed to raindrops, the bastards.

GloriaSmud · 10/02/2017 10:55

Had some wintry snow showers this morning but nothing settled. We are though forecast for some heavier stuff tomorrow morning.

Metoffice weather warnings for snow for some bits tomorrow.

PestoSnowissimos · 10/02/2017 12:21

Day 3 of being freezing cold, grey and thoroughly miserable here - outskirts of Brighton. No snow at all Sad

DameDeDoubtance · 10/02/2017 16:23

Snow is back and weather warnings issued!!!! looks like snow tonight the rain tomorrow.

PestoSnowissimos · 10/02/2017 17:44

Fairy flakes here

SilverHawk · 10/02/2017 18:34

1/10 for effort here. South coast, west of Brighton.
Just walked home and it was solid hitting my nose rather than the mizzle we've had all day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/02/2017 18:44

it has gently drizzled snow here for much of the day in a deeply unpleasant way.

Tiny snow flakes falling down here in West Kent. Needs to get a bit of momentum behind it! My son is dying to get the sledge out, but I have told him it's more just look it's pretty than anything you can actually do anything with.

PestoSnowissimos · 11/02/2017 08:36

Yay!!! It's finally snowed overnight and is now coming down properly ❄😝❄

oldsilver · 11/02/2017 09:17

It is actually snowing in Bristol - DS took a picture of a snowflake on my coat for posterity Grin

Had settled a bit earlier but all gone now - but just for the record it actually snowed!

GloriaSmud · 11/02/2017 09:56

It keeps attempting to snow here (Leicester) and there is a very slight covering on the shed roof but mostly it's cold (1.5C), dull and meh.

moonchild77 · 11/02/2017 10:12

It was snowing this morning at 6.30 as I drove to Wrexham. Woohoo! Sadly didn't stick. Boo!

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 11/02/2017 10:43

Meh, it snowed a little on the way home from the pub last night(Surrey), but apart from a tiny light dusting on the cars, nothing has settled. It feels v cold, but there is no frost, unlike a couple of weeks ago when we had a really hard frost for about a week, but no sign of snow. Really strange. It's half term, we want proper snow!
