Disclaimer: This is for fun, any accuracy, especially this far out is entirely coincidental! I'm an amateur forecaster. Things will change between now and Christmas day

Christmas Eve just squeezes into GFS model range so here we go :) as other models come into range, I'll be using those too.

23rd December High pressure looks to dominate. Cold - temps close to freezing. A little potential for snow, even in the south. Ensembles almost all show cold, so confidence is more reasonable than usual at this time frame.

Christmas Eve Cold weather with a low potential for snow continues.

Xmas Grin Gloria, it was a good evening. Is it me though or has the font shrunk on mn today? Xmas Confused

LOL ~ Oh that good was it!

(I thought warnings for these might come along) snow/ice warnings for most of Scotland tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2016 10:42

well spotted Gloria, what a lot of warnings! It is good to see that the worst of the winds are restricted to further following the more northerly path of the storm.

Right, I'm off to brave town. Wish me luck!! Thanks for sorting the screen issue, at least I can read it now Xmas Grin

Xmas Grin Good Luck with your expedition to town.

Perhaps should put in trafficScotland's website ~ some difficult journeys over the next day or two.

Perihelion · 23/12/2016 11:18

OYBBK glad you enjoyed your night Grin

Yes the weather is a wee bit fierce in Scotland.......Forth Bridge just had a gust of 65mph and strongest winds are predicted there in a couple of hours....just when we'll be crossing. Not likely to go above 80mph so cars will still get over.
Met Office have just named Xmas day weather storm Connor.

GloriaSmud · 23/12/2016 12:38

Take care on your journey, Perihelion.
High ground gust of 117mph recorded in the Cairngorms.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2016 13:10

Connor? that's a rubbish name for a christmas storm!

Town was hideous! Came back positively gloomy. So many miserable angry buggers! I'm going to lock the door and hide for the next week I think.

Waves to Perihelion. I'm in Canmore, in the Canadian Rockies. Currently -8 and snowing!!

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 23/12/2016 14:19

Wind picking up here. Got a strange attack of the giggles at the schools church service this morning when the wind blew the doors open and started howling a gale through the church. Was very movie-esque.
Dd finished school off out to get her brothers then some shopping before copying up for the night.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2016 14:46

oh cool Looks - did the lights flicker?

Forth bridge was okay. Wind had dropped a bit, but they still weren't letting anything high sided over. Rain was torrential in Edinburgh and stupid amounts of surface water, but think the shite weather put off a lot of travellers and there were no stupid drivers, so journey was way better than expected. Now at in-laws in St Andrews.....would prefer to be in the Canadian Rockies Xmas Grin

Perihelion · 23/12/2016 17:25

I lied it's not raining, I'm just hearing the wind.

GloriaSmud · 23/12/2016 19:25

Glad you made it OK, Perihelion.
It's sounding pretty stormy on the Shetland webcam here.

BiddyPop · 24/12/2016 08:48

I am so jealous Moose Canmore is lovely and I'd love to see it in snow"

I am sitting watching a rain shower race across the Atlantic and waves crashing on rocks below the picture window. It's not too wild but due to go back to gale force later.

Visiting extended family on both sides later. Now ThAT could be stormy!

nannynick · 24/12/2016 13:06

Rain on and off Scottish Borders. Snowgates closed at Glenshee so guess there has been quite a lot of snow overnight in the mountains.

Perihelion · 24/12/2016 21:27

Safe travels Nanny
Weather calmed down today after a soaking in the beach this morning. A wee bit cold but think we're too south and coastal to see any snow before it warms up tomorrow......possible on boxing dayXmas Grin

nannynick · 25/12/2016 16:46

Forecast for snow in morning. Seems strange as today has been really quite warm for this time of year in Aberdeenshire.

Perihelion · 25/12/2016 17:08

12c and windy in Fife. Think we'll see some sideyways snow on the way back to Edinburgh tomorrow.

nannynick · 26/12/2016 06:20

A little snow this morning.

Hope drive to Edinburgh goes well.

Nice one, nannynick. Some snowy scenes about at the moment, including at the Braemar snowgates.

Looking chilly from now on for just about everywhere in the UK for the next week or two.

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile

Lovely nannynick Xmas Smile

Merry Christmas everyone!

It does look like we are cooling down quite nicely now. GFS have pushed back the England snowy set up to the second week in January now, with cold and dry til then. It all looks rather nice!

Sleety snow spotted this morning Xmas Grin
Wind quiet at the moment. Was noisey last night.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2016 09:57

By tomorrow it will be much calmer Peri :)
