Amber alert issued by Lancaster Uni, folks.
I would post a picture of Alaska, which is looking a very nice alien green but can't seem to get MN to accept posts with pictures at the moment.

In preparation for any possible Aurora, Scotland-way tonight, I've just found a fabulous list of Scottish webcams. (shame I can't edit the webcam list and add it!)

Fab pics from Alaska - thank you Pseudo.

Those are very good Scottish webcams too, Gloria. It's a shame it doesn't say whether they are pointing north, though some provide enough description to work out the orientation. I guess trial and error tell. Definitely a link to add to the 2016/7 OP. Wink

GloriaSmud · 11/09/2015 19:31

Have added the site to the list already, RomCom! I really want to see some Aurora on a webcam closer to home, especially as we're without some of the favourite ones at the moment

Crikey - get a load of this! Any lurking Scots around who might be able to furnish is with some MN exclusive aurora photos from their back garden?

Might be worth keeping an eye on the Icelandic webcams ~ the IMO have got a 'very high' Aurora forecast for tonight into tomorrow.

Things are just starting to pick up at Sodankyla - just before I head off to bed, naturally.

New link for next year's thread - University of Alaska's forecast which has some of the cities marked and should help us to target specific cameras.

RomComPhooey · 13/09/2015 23:23

Some nice recent images at this Michigan Tech site.

RomComPhooey · 13/09/2015 23:28

Yeah, I know I said i was going to bed....

This site has a community of local aurora observers in northern Norway, Iceland and up into the arctic circle where it looks like you can access their observation cameras: community.aurora-skycam.com Not sure if they charge for access.

GloriaSmud · 14/09/2015 22:35

Couple of good sites there, RomCom.
Not a lot to be seen tonight but I think Abisko's message has changed and it now says it'll be turned on for the Winter season (think it said something about the summer season before??) so hopefully that'll be back online soon.

This was the north coast of Northern Ireland last Wednesday night - I live a 10 min drive away so frequently pop out if there is any chance of a seeing things.

Another great use for Mumsnet! Pulls up armchair. I've got AuroraWatch installed, but hadn't though of webcam watching - duh! I'm in Leeds so not great chance unless I leap in car and head NE when I get a red alert. Which hasn't happened at night yet. Will go and check webcams now!

BerylStreep · 14/09/2015 23:03

I've just bought a house on the North Coast ademanlu. Really looking forward to seeing some auroras.

RomComPhooey · 14/09/2015 23:07

Great to have new people this year - and our first first-hand photo too, Ademanlu (we had one taken by a poster's OH or father last winter IIRC).

RomComPhooey · 14/09/2015 23:10

Cooroo - a lot of the webcams are down at the mo, either for seasonal (summer) shutdown, maintenance or because they are crocked. Once Abisko Sky Station's camera is back up we should get some fantastic pictures. Have a look at last year's thread to see.

Cooroo · 14/09/2015 23:11

Just seen my 'first' - lovely green at Thingvellur (sp?). That was real time? Excited!

RomComPhooey · 14/09/2015 23:37

You've done well there Cooroo. Thingvellir doesn't have great resolution so it needs to be pretty overt to spot it, but it does livestream, unlike most of the others where they refesh every few minutes. Katla is one of the other Icelandic cameras with a lot of sky in shot, so is sometimes worth a try.

pearlgirl · 15/09/2015 17:31

I am hoping that we may get some first had photos as well at some point but knowing my luck each time we make it up it Iceland it will be cloudy. I may need to pm some Iceland dwellers for help and advice.
