well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

No snow here :(

Keep waiting and waiting. Worried it'll be like it was a few years ago when we were surrounded by places that all had snow and we had none. It was very odd and not fair!!!

We're in SW London.

Coating on the Pentland Hills.

Fyrefly, away from the coast you are quite likely to get some light snow overnight, unfortunately the afternoon band will probably be heavy rain.
Tuesday will be a skating ring.

Letseat, yes for many it will be a disappointing washout, but it does look better after tomorrow afternoons rain/snow band goes through with more consistently cold air.

Parts of Kent, Essex and Suffolk seem to have a rather good snow blob moving over them the evening.

I'm my part of the world there are two different snow areas heading this way and as they do so they appear to fizzle out. Waah!

I assume that's lower than North Suffolk, OYBBK?

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 19:50

Countryfile forecast on now.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 19:51

It's snowing here now. Sad

DamnDeDoubtance · 13/01/2013 19:53

Is that East Kent kitten? Love a snow blob. Grin

LillethTheCat · 13/01/2013 19:55

yes for many it will be a disappointing washout

Does that include North Yorkshire?

It can do what the feck it likes from Wed onwards.

pigsinmud · 13/01/2013 19:59

Surrey Hills...any luck here?

MooncupGoddess · 13/01/2013 20:01

What do you reckon about London, OYBBK? As you know, 2mm of snow and the entire metropolis collapses.

archfiend · 13/01/2013 20:07

It's snowing here (worcs near the hills) - it looks sort of sleety so I am hoping it sort of gives up and goes away before the morning.

ajandjjmum · 13/01/2013 20:13

So whilst I was looking for the forecast in South Staffs, some snow snuck down in the dark and surprised. Only a little covering in all fairness, but enough for the dog to turn his nose up at!

DH working in SE - he left at 6 rather than leave it until the morning. We have great faith in kitten's forecasting ability in this family! Smile

DamnDeDoubtance · 13/01/2013 20:15

I just saw a flake...I just saw a flake...IJUSTSAWAFLAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 20:15

Hi arch, I'm not a million miles from you. I am hoping for the giving up.

GloriaSnow · 13/01/2013 20:23

Don't think the snow's too far away from here (Leicester.) There are some snow reports coming in to uksnowmap from just down the M69, at Coventry. Will be interesting to see what we wake up to

Mrcrumpswife · 13/01/2013 20:26

A few flakes on the Somerset/Devon borderSmile

Hulababy · 13/01/2013 20:28

Snowing up the hill in Sheffield. Still fairly light but sticking and steadily coming. Hoping it'll stop soon

archfiend · 13/01/2013 20:28

Hi sparkling - I shall think of you whilst doing an anti snow dance! Could really do without it as travelling round here is a nightmare in the snow.

hoochymama1 · 13/01/2013 20:29

Ooh, snowing a bit here, Derbyshire, hardly at all really../emo/te/9.gif

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 20:31

We moved DS to a school that was 1/2 a mile away to one 12 miles away Arch, I drive him 6 miles to the coach and the coach does the rest. When we were doing the pros and cons, the possibility of snow was on the cons list. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2013 20:34

It's getting closer to me but dd wants it to go away as she wants to go to school. Very odd role reversal in our house.

OP posts:
archfiend · 13/01/2013 20:35

sparkling eek - this is the trouble, really bad snow is fine in a way if the schools close, but this pissy middly stuff just means utter chaos. DD's school prides itself on not closing for snow which means a hideous journey when every other bugger has the day off. Fingers crossed it turns to sleet/rain for you and you don't have to make the trip in bad conditions.
