Snow watch!!!!

well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

We seem to have progressed to an amber warning in north yorks now

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 17:18

I am going to watch Countryfile later they do the weather for the week. Maybe they will not mention snow at all. Grin

Just spent the afternoon in the Yorkshire Dales and it started snowing lightly at about 3pm ish. By the time we left at about 4:30 it was snowing heavier but not really settling. Home now (about 20 minutes away) and it's snowing lightly - fingers crossed we get some big flakes and they start to settle.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2013 17:40

Mo - what a plonker!

Taggie, probably some overnight. However it looks like the afternoon bout will probably ( but not definitely) be rain.

Oooo thanks for that BadKitten, really useful info. Have got Autosocks in car too just in case.

Some Thanks for you.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2013 17:48

Looking ahead gfs keeps it cold until Sunday but after tomorrow keeps the main snow risk to eastern counties until Friday when a weather front may bring in snow on Friday. However, I wouldn't trust GFS that far ahead at the moment, especially as all 3 main models diverge quickly in their solutions. Its probably best to look no more than a couple of days in advance.

You are welcome :)

I think I have finally grown out of snow Sad

FyreFly · 13/01/2013 17:56

Do you know anything about Hampshire OYBBK? If you don't mind me pestering you for yet another forecast Blush

PoppyWearer · 13/01/2013 17:56

I was really hoping for snow here today (Surrey) as I was home alone with the DCs and nothing planned.

Tomorrow I have stupid amounts of stuff to do, and DC2 booked into nursery, so if it snows I will lose the money paid for that as well as having to cancel everything, again. (DC2 was sick and off nursery before Christmas.)

I remember having some snow days with DC1 when she was around DC2's age (16mo) and it was just...awful, the walls closed in, even though we went out to play every day.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/01/2013 18:03

I have not grown out of snow.

I grew up on the IOW and we didn't really get much there. I was snow-deprived.

SarahStratton · 13/01/2013 18:15

It's just started to snow. Grin

We have snow! In Liverpool BTW but it isn't falling very thick yet...hopefully It will pick up and stick to the ground...probably wont tho!!

TaggieCampbellBlack · 13/01/2013 18:22

Thanks Kitten. Phew. Sorry snow lovers.

Catbag · 13/01/2013 18:27

I am in the Yorkshire Dales and we haven't seen a ruddy flake all day. The Met Office has heavy snow now on their map above my market town. The Met Office LIES >

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/01/2013 18:34

We have the tiniest meanest flakes ever coming down. It would be a uksnow 0.01 / 10.

LillethTheCat · 13/01/2013 18:41

No no no no and just no to that amber warning. I have been hopeful that any snow wont be too bad here, but judging by those weather warnings Im not going to make my exam in Ripon (40 min drive from where I live ruraly) am I Sad Please please tell me that the snow may come, but the roads will be fine

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 18:46

I am clinging with you Lilleth. Roads need to be ok.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 13/01/2013 18:46

We're in the amber area now, no snow since about 3am but we still have a coating in east yorks.

mankyscotslass · 13/01/2013 18:52

Still snowing here, not very heavy, but it is beginning to settle on the bin lids and car roofs. Not on the ground though. Sad

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 18:55

I have looked on the Worcestershire Council website and they are saying 2-5cm overnight. Mmmmm. The gritters are out, and then are going back to be fitted with snowploughs apparently.

ravenAK · 13/01/2013 18:56

Miserly dusting on car roofs in West Yorks, hoping for more by morning...

Starshaped · 13/01/2013 18:57

It's been sleeting and snowing in Manchester for an hour or so. Absolutely no stickage at all though :(

letseatgrandma · 13/01/2013 19:04

Met office say that Essex will have snow mon-weds but the BBC say that they'll just be sleety rain!

I really think this is going to be one big disappointing wash out!
