well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

I am going to get even more jealous soon. It never snows on the Morecambe bay coast. There's lots on the mountains, but never where we live.

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 12/01/2013 21:25

Feck loads of rain on Dartmoor today. It's just cold and damp. Sad boo.

I want a snow day! The children deserve one.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2013 22:24

Very sensible sparkling.

Clearly the cold air isn't here yet as its holding steady at 3c.

I'm preparing for an icy day tomorrow. I've got a pile of DVD's to watch and I've changed the sheets on the bed. Grin

I love the line in that Met Office warning. there is a greater than average uncertainty. Does that mean, 'we haven't got a clue!' ? Grin

MegGriffin · 12/01/2013 23:19

That made me laugh as well Maureen.

mumat39 · 12/01/2013 23:21

Not sure if this has been posted already but as I'm now a bit obsessed with the weather, I found it interesting.

BBC weather.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some lovely snow. Love waking up in the morning to newly Allen snow. Everything seems so peaceful and beautiful and quiet and calm. Love it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2013 23:22

It means exactly that Mo Grin which is splendidly honest.
Am prepared for a day in bed at home too!

mumat39 I love the spaghetti pictures which look like a 3 year old has drawn it!

mumat39 · 12/01/2013 23:45

Meg, I know. How cool is that!

I just wish I understood what all the images mean. I love looking at them but have no clue. I actually find the moving ones quite hypnotic and calming. :)

mumat39 · 12/01/2013 23:46

Kitten, your day out sounded a bit too cold. Hope the bath warmed you up and you get some well earned rest tomorrow.

Thanks so much for the updates.

Xxx

MegGriffin · 12/01/2013 23:48

Yes thank you kitten Smile

GloriaSnow · 13/01/2013 07:50

We have a slight dusting of snow! Wasn't expecting to wake up to that as it's forecast to start for us this evening but there's definitely a light dusting and it's still falling.

mankyscotslass · 13/01/2013 08:39

Off to Church Parade with my little Brownie this morning - and DS2 is playing football this morning too, in goal.

Bright and chilly here this morning, the cars needs to be de-iced.

mankyscotslass · 13/01/2013 09:12

On the way to church, I have just noticed that we had a very light dusting of graupel overnight. Thanks to OYBBK for teaching me what that means!

Labradorlover · 13/01/2013 09:23

SNOW Grin Edinburgh, just wee flakes mind....
Am now sniggering as I sent DH off to Fife last night to fish/drink with his pals, sleping in a very old camper van.

m0nkeynuts · 13/01/2013 09:25

Snowing in Dunfermline! Big flakes, very pretty!

MumVsKids · 13/01/2013 09:27

Anyone close ish that has more, please let me know, have van and three excited DCs so will travel!!!! :)

Labradorlover · 13/01/2013 09:30

Like your attitude MumVKids Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2013 09:42

Tomorrows forecast is a nightmare to get accurate for those in the south!!!

Basically we have a low pressure running through the channel. Eastern and central Areas north of the wash are likely to stick with snow on and off through the day, getting lighter in the morning before a renewed band of heavier snow.

but those south of the wash may get caught up in a warm sector of the low in the afternoon so for a while the snow would become rain, heavy at times. However, who this actually effects will depend on the exact position of the low and the exact position of the warm sector and perhaps some other pesky little factors. So you may get light/moderate snow, perhaps with some dry interludes then followed by heavy rain, or you may get it followed by heavy snow instead I'm afraid I can't be any more accurate than that.

I will certainly have a look again this evening and also tomorrow morning, but I would be prepared for the potential for a nightmare. The worst scenario would be actually if it turned to rain for a bit followed by heavy snow. Any grit would be washed away and as the temperatures dropped later ice/snow would be a real issue for travelling. So lets hope that its a clear 'heavy snow' or a clear 'heavy rain' !

Fine granular snow fell for a while in North Suffolk, seems to have stopped for now, just the odd bit floating by. It's very cold and overcast though, so I expect more.

VitoCorleone · 13/01/2013 09:56

Its snowing here - west Cumbria.
