Heavy rain/thunderstorms over the weekend?

Thought it might be interesting to note who ends up having the heavy rain/thunderstorms that they're forecasting for some areas of the country over the weekend.

We had cloud first thing and a few heavy spots of rain about 20 minutes ago but the sun's beginning to come out now and it's quite humid.

well we need some!!

dd's 'punishment' for a slight misdemeanour is to do some weeding!! she cant do it with the ground this hard!

GloriaSmud · 06/05/2011 10:57

I like your way of thinking! Your DD gets her 'punishment' and you get a weed~free garden (as long as you get some rain!)

It does look quite interesting :) Two periods of interest really - tonight (in the west I think) and, if the clouds really clear tomorrow afternoon then late tomorrow and tomorrow night. Really hard to pin down details but hopefully later will have an idea of areas that are more at risk.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 12:58

might not be confined just to the west tonight actually, risk could be pretty widespread :) and perhaps early as late afternoon early this evening.

I like a good thunderstorm.

Oh goody ~ I like a good thunderstorm too! The weather forecast I saw earlier on News 24 seemed to give the impression that storms could crop up along a couple of weather fronts that were moving in from the west, which could match up with the timings that you were talking about.
(Disclaimer: I only had the weather on in the background so wasn't paying that much attention!)

Oops sorry, swc.
Can I suggest taking trainers or wellies, just in case? Not very fashionable but would save those heels.

TORRO have issued a convective discussion. Worth noting their comment about tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 16:28

Can I suggest that for those in the south, might be worth actually unplugging computers tonight, if the storms move in as expected. They could be quite electrical in nature (ie lots of lightning) and pcs don't like nearby hits (speaking from experience when neighbours up and down my street lost their computers, phones and tellys due to a hit in a back garden)

Chaotica · 06/05/2011 16:34

Oooh - thanks for the torro link.

I usually rely on my Childminder for tornado warnings (and earthquake advice etc) - although I don't think ofsted give her any extra points for this. She's pretty handy at forecasting (she from somewhere they're more common...).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 16:57

Torro are excellent :) they don't tend to issue discussions or warnings for just ordinary boring storms, but only if they think there is a reasonable potential for risk.

Chaotica · 06/05/2011 17:02

Very much like my CM too then Smile - None of the english style 'looks like it might be nice later' weather chat; more of a drawled 'aah think it's turned to twister weather' (midlands dwellers go Shock). I'll tell her about torro too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 17:14

I would love to meet her Grin

ConstanceFelicity · 06/05/2011 17:18

Please don't wish thunder and lightning upon me. I am phobic

nokissymum · 06/05/2011 17:27

No rain or thunder please, ds having his birthday party.

Chaotica · 06/05/2011 17:28

OYBBK - I'm sure you'd get on just fine Smile

hugglymugly · 06/05/2011 17:41

The rainfall radar is looking very interesting at the moment. There's an area of rain moving northeast-ish from the area of Brittany where there's some thunderstorm activity.

Those storms look ace! - fingers crossed the channel doesnt kill them off (sorry constance - you know its just God moving His furniture about dont you?)

PaperView · 06/05/2011 18:06

That Torro link is gibberish to me ConfusedGrin

There is a rough rectangle round ireland though so is that where the storms will be?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 18:17

Storms will be more widespread than the box indicates but at the moment that is where it looks like the most interesting storms will be (for this round Wink )

Tortoise · 06/05/2011 19:30

Heavy rain in Somerset right now, some hail too! Came over really dark very quickly.

mankyscotslass · 06/05/2011 19:32

Was just about to ask if you think we will get some here, it's glorious sunshine and DS1 is having a barbecue at Cubs.

But I have just heard a massive rumble of thunder, and when I looked out, part of the sky is black.

It's very odd seeing bright sunshine from one window, and black from the other

And there has just been another peal! I'm hoping it's a good storm and dosen't peter out into nothing!

OOOh lightning!!! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 19:35
Grin Hope you are on a lap top Manky!
mankyscotslass · 06/05/2011 19:37
