Animal Crossing Newbie- what do I need to know?

Ok just bought this for 'the kids' , what do I need to know, never played before.....
Any starters tips??

I’ve caught some new things today, tiny things from the rivers. Rainbowfish and a nibbler. First visit from CJ today to buy my fish.

I have ten villagers, however one (Mac) has just left so a new bunny called Carmen could move in, and one of my original islanders Tammy is moving out tomorrow, so I’ll hopefully be able to meet new people on my Nook Miles trips again.

Despite having 10 islanders, three bridges and multiple inclines, as well as 50+ fruit trees (all available fruits), and nearly every type of flower, including hybrids and lots of outdoor areas, I’ve still only got a 3 star rating. I am going to start experimenting more with my island designer app.

I have blocked in the one villager who annoyed me!!

I had a depressed one wanting to leave today....I've got a pool, flamingo...flowers!? What more can you ask for!?

(What should I be getting/building to keep them happy!!?)

Just tell them they should stay when they say they’re thinking about leaving!

If it’s someone you’d like to leave to make space for a newbie then you can tell them it’s okay to go!

I got a lovely new little flowery elephant called Tia on a Nook miles trip earlier. Did three NMT’s today and got a Coelecanth and an Oarfish on every one of them!

However my ACNH time is about to drop considerably as I’m back to working from my normal place of work from Monday :( (not that I’ve been playing in work time, I’ll just have a lot less free time in general with the commute, etc).

I might have said this already, but a lot of my villagers are in pairs! Yuka and Eugene (koalas), Wendy and Stella (sheep) and Plucky and Goose (chickens). That leaves Skye, Pippy, Goldie and Stitches. Skye and Goldie are never leaving (mwahaha!) so that just leaves Pippy and Stitches that I can afford to lose. Unfortunately, everyone but them is trying to leave!

@bearlyactive I watched a YouTube video last night about how to get villagers to leave and the theory behind it, which data miners have found out. You could have a look on there for the basic premise of it all, but the one I watched involved time travelling which I didn’t want to do.

@QueenOfPain I've had two of mine leave. First one I just kinda ignored and then when she had 3 dots above her head I spoke to her, and persuaded her to pursue her dreams 😂. Second one was today when I had someone in my campsite, I offered her to move to my island but she said she couldn't as it was full, she then went off to speak to my islanders to see if any were planning to move, and LO and behold they were.

I bought for 110 on Sunday, everything was really low until yesterday, sold for 168, by the afternoon, 276! Typical!

This morning 68 though...

I got super lucky this week and managed to go over to the island of someone I follow on IG and sold mine for 512 bells a turnip it paid off the remainder of my upstairs room being built, and now I’m indebted to Tom Nook again for a bloody basement to the tune of 2.5million bells.

Books Cranny finally upgraded for me now too. I organised all of my trees into a proper orchard last night and have started playing around more with terraforming. First thing I did was make a path round the back of the island on the lowest level to access the secret beach more easily, and then all my islanders were hanging around down there last night being nosey. Haha.

Had my first resident birthday too, Hamlet, my adorable little hamster. I gave him an exercise bike for a present and the penny finally dropped why it is they sell wrapping paper in the shop.

I've managed to get Apples, Oranges, Coconuts and bamboo growing, but where do I find the others? (Cherries?)

Also, one of my Residents 'heard' I might be planting some money around the island...(I am!), should I be keeping a little eye out??

Is anyone up for island visiting? Maybe playing later on tonight and if I can work out how to let people in I will post on here!

@whatonearthmother Go to the airport, chat to Orville and tell him you want visitors. If you choose "dodo code" you can post it here and people can come along, "friends" means only people who are already on your Switch Friends list can come, and "best friends" means only people who have already visited and you've chosen to allow them digging/etc rights by making them best friends in the Nookphone friends app.

You can mail presents to people but you must be both Nintendo Friends and have also met in game by travelling to one of each other's island. You can't mail to other travellers you meet on someone else's island.

The secret beach is Redd's mooring, yes.

For money trees: if you plant 1k->10k you'll get three times that back.
If you plant 10k-99k you have a 30% chance of getting three times that much back, but 70% chance of just getting 3x10k.

Other fruit is from other people's islands, encouraging social travel. You can very rarely get a Mystery Island Trip to somewhere with a different fruit than your own, but it's always the same different fruit. Plus the coconuts of course, which are on most Mystery Islands.

I managed to get oranges and bamboo from a nook miles ticket- I haven't signed up to Nintendo yet (assuming I need to plus the dodo code to get visitors!?) I can open the gates to local, but its warning me of 'Riff Raff'.....so looking more likely I'll sign up- happy to share dodo codes then?
