Getting to higher ground? I'm waiting for a ladder, right? So shouldn't be trying to pole vault up there?

Yes you can’t get to the upper levels until you have a ladder

my island layout is really small, I reckon I can access a third of it and the rest I can't get to because of the river...

is everyone else's like this? I'm assuming you can build a bridge at some point, but u don't know when.. m

Yes pole first and later on bridges so all your villagers can cross the river too.

Bloody Tom Nook is the most incompetent CEO ever - he overpromises to new residents then muggins here gets lumbered with running round building their houses and a shitload of furniture!

My DD pointed out that it's one of the missions of the game and I just need to get over it, and I get that - I don't think I would have been so annoyed if Nook had just said 'you need to do this now' but his saying 'oops, I massively fucked up and now you have to clear up my mess' really freaking irked me!

It's addictive! DH made the mistake of setting up DD (5) first and she's just interested in making the outside of her house look like Steptoe's yard. We were too far in to reset it so now we play as her when she's asleep to move us on in the game

I am so happy to have found this thread! I have been given insider knowledge that I will be getting AC for my birthday... I am currently preparing by reading up everywhere, giving DH is birthday present early (Witcher 3 on the PC) so he can install and patch it and ordering cheese and wine in an online shop so my birthday evening can be grazing, gaming and booze.

I'd say I need to get out more but don't we all ;)

Storage!? Having put all my stuff away in my 'house storage' I can't seem to access it!?

@taddda yes I avoided saying the right arrow as I figured that would be the confusion .
Go and visit some other islands with Tom Nook tickets and hit the rocks there too. Dig a hole behind you and hit quickly and you can get 7 (or maybe 8?) hits per stone. And don’t eat fruit before you hit or you destroy the stone.

I'm going in. Switch has been charging all day in preparation 😂

No, that destroys the rock (they respawn elsewhere later).

Are you getting thrown backwards when you hit it? You need to dig a hole behind you and to the side so you can't get thrown back, then you can keep hitting the rock.

Just managed (finally!) to get all the iron ore for the shop! Is there anything else I should be hoarding for a task coming up?

I'm selling all my duplicate bugs/fish etc but should I keep hold of any in particular?

Also Tom's now said I can change my look , where do I go to do that?

Wood from the trees - you can collect if once a day from each tree. You need quite a lot of the different types, along with the iron ore and some rocks, clay etc from the rocks.

And branches (from shaking the trees) will still come in handy for tools and whatnot.
