Animal Crossing Newbie- what do I need to know?

Ok just bought this for 'the kids' , what do I need to know, never played before.....

Managed to get Isabelle to talk about island evals! (1 star.....)

I've put some furniture around the island (the four corners of the map tip) but what should I be putting up/making/where??

She gave me a comment which basically said my island was a bit boring/not much to do..(Cheek! I've got a lovely rocking horse......)

My home got an A rating though with 22,000 points? Should I be making the other homes a bit more pretty too? Putting up fencing/flowers/bonfires?

(Just Googled...apparently 'this' for a 5 star rating...)

Around 20 Nook Miles furnishings (purchased with Nook Miles from the Nook Stop)
Around 50 DIY furnishings (crafted yourself or by friends)
Around 40 store-bought furnishings (from Nook’s Cranny or Nook Shopping)

Around 110 trees and 10 bamboo thickets
Around 250 flowers must be bloomed, not sprouting or budding

Wow! What a list!

I got a 5 star rating this morning and only have 2 ramps and 5 bridges so you don’t need everything on that list. I do have lots of furniture and loads of flowers through.

I also got a 1 star rating at first but it was just because I didn’t have enough villagers. It increased to 2 star the next day when someone new arrived and then 3 star the day after when another person arrived without me changing any of the furniture so you might just have to wait for more people :)

@wedding2020 Isabelle did say about attracting more visitors, hopefully that'll increase it then!?

I was quite offended! Hours of weeding, pruning and planting....even bought a pink flamingo! That's surely worth half a star!

I have a microphone that you can have. I don’t have a speaker but i have an amp if that’s any use?

I love animal crossing but I'm getting bit fed up that I get the same fish every time despite me trying on different islands and different times/places etc, every fossil I get Blathers doesn't want and it's getting harder to find fossils on other islands for some reason.

I also can't understand the stamp bonus thing in the museum you can do every day but the prize is still the same , so why would anyone do more than once as you don't get that many bells for them anyway?

Cherry I'm just doing the stamp thing to decorate my house, I'll be making a feature wall of the trophies at this rate Also some of the fish will change at the start of June - we'll get sharks (lots of Bells) and I cannot wait!

Apparently all the fish and bugs change in June! I have used the Turnip Exchange to visit some other islands so have managed to get all the fruit trees and some flowers.

Does anyone know how you get rid of islanders???

@whatonearthmother I would like to know this too as I hate one of my villagers! Can we share island pics? Here’s my new cafe.

See I need to do this. When I have been to other islands they seem to be much bigger than mine.

I have the water building thing and cliff thing but how can I make it bigger

whatonearthmother Every island is the same size, it's the amount of terraforming and stuff that they cram into it that makes it seem so much bigger.

In terms of getting rid of villagers, you need amiibo.

The cards are available online (at varying prices depending on who you want). Take Skye - I had her in my very first New Leaf town back in 2013 so when the Welcome Amiibo update happened in 2016 I got her card online. Now I can use it for New Horizons by scanning her on the Nook Stop. I think you have to do it on three separate days, fulfilling the character's request each time, before you get the option to invite them to live on your island.

If you have less than ten villagers and an open plot, the character moves in without a problem. But if you have less than ten, the islander will kick one of your existing ones out. You don't get to choose in the game, but what you can do is reset as soon as they mention a particular islander (before it gets a chance to autosave), rinse and repeat until they offer to kick off the islander that you want rid of. The unwanted one will immediately be in boxes, and the wanted islander will move a couple of days later.

So it's a bit long-winded but it's the only way so far, I think!

Have spent some of the day redesigning my island. Really want one of mine to leave though!!

@whatonearthmother I've been doing that today! Decided to clear out some trees and just throw what I've got in my house storage at it, plant some flowers, put up some fencing around the other houses and make them look a bit pretty....Isabelle still not happy, she was all 'oh, I marvel at your scenery/decorations', 'we just need to entice some more people'.....an hour later 'you need to build more, people need more to do, your scenery needs a bit of work'! Maybe her an Nook had a bit of an off day....!

Still got 1 star.........I'm building bridge No3, someone new moving in tomorrow...I built some stuff, got a pool/bbq area going on, telescope....

(All I've caught is 'Mack-er-els' today!!)

Isabelle now wants me to put fences up. There is no pleasing her

@whatonearthmother same with the fencing! I've put some up around the houses and made everyone a little flower garden....

With the 'money trees' I'm replanting 10,000, but there is an option to plant 30,000 (so giving me 90,000 per tree...?) Does this work too??
