I'd forgotten about bamboo - Daisy Mae sometimes gifts you some if you buy turnips too.

Local is "other Switches on the same wifi" so isn't useful unless you've got several ACNH players in the house each with their own :)

Ah! I completely forgot to say you need to pay for a Nintendo Online subscription (£19/year, or £36/six person family) in order to go travelling to (or be visited by) other ACNH players over the Internet.

That's weird....I tried the first night on local and (quite rightly then) it said no....but the other night it was going to allow me to open the gates (ive not signed up as yet. ), but warned of letting in 'Riff Raff' and offered me to set up a 4 digit code??

I'm starting to think someones piggy backing my wifi...?!

Hi everyone!
Me and my dd are new to Animal Crossing and already becoming addicted!
So weve got 15 Iron nuggets but need another 15 to open the shop? Any tips? Also we havent visited anybody yet if anyone would like a visitor 😃😎

chickenwings00 · 31/05/2020 21:25

How do we visit other islands I’ve found dodo codes online but it always says there’s no islands available at the minute!

Shoxfordian · 31/05/2020 21:27

Celeste came to see me and told me about shooting stars but I don't seem to have any

QueenOfPain · 31/05/2020 22:11

Shooting stars usually happen on clear nights, you just need to stand near the back of your island (either on the beach, or the highest level) and use your joystick to angle the view upwards, and then just wait a few minutes, they usually happen just after the save thing whizzes round in the corner. Make sure you don’t have any tools in your hands or you won’t be able to wish, and usually you get several shooting stars one after the other. The next morning you’ll have star fragments scattered on your beach with the shells.

QueenOfPain · 31/05/2020 22:12

When you see the star press A, your character will turn round and make a wish.

Shoxfordian · 31/05/2020 22:13

Thanks Queen
I will try again in a minute, have a star wand recipe so want to hopefully get some fragments

Haven't RTFT...

Experts, please help me - I'm a complete Animal Crossing newbie.

DD is getting a Switch lite for her 6th birthday and I'm looking for some games for her. I think she might like Animal Crossing with the concept of building a little island (?) - but I know nothing about it.

Is it playable for a 6 year old who can't read? (We're not in UK with a different school system where she will start learning in September.)

And if I do get her the game, is there anything I need to bear in mind like master lead players on the game? I can get hold of a physical version of the game here, so I don't need to get a download code.

DS has just had a regular Switch for his 9th birthday, but not sure if he'll be interested. I could possibly be interested in playing.... Wink

Thank you Flowers

Buy a Nook Miles Ticket from the NookStop and go to an island, then hit all the rocks there and collect your iron!

The DODO codes will be old by the time you find them online - once the island owner has shut their gates, the code is invalid.

It is pretty wordy so maybe not the best, unless of course you're able to read all the dialogue aloud to her. And you don't need anything other than a Switch AFAIK Smile
bearlyactive · 01/06/2020 10:36

Bandol Hopefully will help introduce you to the concept of Animal Crossing!

whatonearthmother · 01/06/2020 19:55

Isabelle is talking about weddings tonight!

Bandol · 01/06/2020 21:06

bearlyactive thank you for the helpful link. It does look pretty wordy so I think we'll wait until Christmas or the next birthday for it (or whatever the next big thing is).

I'll continue my search for a suitable game!

TheHighestSardine · 02/06/2020 14:23

@Bandol Check to see if it's localised to your kid's first language - it supports these (you change the whole Switch to the language):

English
French
German
Spanish
Italian
Dutch
Portuguese
Russian
Japanese
Traditional Chinese
Simplified Chinese
Korean

I've met the bug lady, but who's CJ?? Does he pay more for the fish?

CJ gives you a fishing challenge I think he comes once a week?

namechangedforthis123456 · 04/06/2020 16:42

Hello. I have just started the game and read somewhere down thread that there is a what's app group? Can I join please?

ElfCakes · 04/06/2020 16:58

Hi all, thanks for the thread! You've got some great tips on here. I've been playing a couple of weeks but only just signed up for online play. Anyone around to share dojo codes? Do people just visit or is there an expectation of specific trades?

guiltynetter · 05/06/2020 12:36

Last night I caught a whale shark, an arapaima, an arowana and a great white shark all in one session of game (over around 1.5 hours) I've never been so lucky ever! felt I had to share it because my husband doesn't care at all Grin you know your life is a bit boring at the moment when you get excited about virtual fish haha.

bearlyactive · 05/06/2020 14:16

I thought the bug lady was the bug guy???

I stockpile for CJ and Flick as well, or at least until I run out of space because they NEVER BLOODY COME!!!!

Cherryghost · 05/06/2020 18:59

A tip (that probably everyone knows) I've only just discovered after playing 2 months every day Shock
You don't have to use your shovel to fill in holes. You press Y and you kick the mud over to fill the hole.
This saves your shovel breaking so quick and digging multiple holes by mistake after digging in wrong place!
Tell me I'm not the only one who just found this out?

Also don't recommend putting more than £10,000 bells in a hole. Let's just say I was stupid and lost a lot of bells Smile
