Pokemon Go #10. See ya later Feralligator, in a while Totodile

Despite only really playing at the weekend due to working I'm now 180k through Level 31. Today I cheated somewhat. The M25 was stationary, so I opened the app and left it on. I had 8 eggs cooking and between junctions 18 and 22 managed to hatch 7 of them. Mantine, 2x Exegcute, Krabby, Eevee, Togepi and Magby.

Congrats Abbey on reaching Level 30, and commiserations Spammy on not being able to log in.

Ha ha love the new title Grin

Had a good day today; caught a Totodile and a Croconaw! Was very happy. Also a pikachu, Sunkern and Oddish... all of which I need more of for their own evolved forms.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/06/2017 21:08

Haha loving the title too! New thread already wow

NamelessEnsign · 21/06/2017 21:10

Ooh new title screen!

RudeDog · 21/06/2017 21:11

Was hoping to hit level 29 with the event - 2/3 way there though
I know level 30 will be a slog unless there's another event soon

HashiAsLarry · 21/06/2017 21:13

Nothing wrong with a traffic jam sometimes Grin

HandbagKrabby · 21/06/2017 21:14

After a last minute dash we managed to get enough candies to evolve another charizard and a typhlosion and my egg hatched a bulbasaur so I have a venusaur too! Brilliant event, it's back to weedles for a bit now

PickAChew · 21/06/2017 21:30

I'm missing the extra XP more than the fire pokemon. Some of those things needed too many big balls and berries to catch! My bag's a bit depleted, now.

It looks like the ring around a pokestop indicates whether a half hour has passed since you last spun it, so you can get the right pokestops for a spinning streak (needs to be 10 different ones, within half an hour).

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/06/2017 21:40

Yes, the extra XP has got me to 3/4 of the way to Level 28.

I don't think that's what the rings are for, PickAChew. The ring explanation says:

There’s also now a “visual indicator” for unvisited Pokéstops, specifically a little blue ring that surrounds the little in-game icon. It appears that it’s meant to give players a little nudge towards exploring areas they haven’t been to before, encouraging that all-important aspect of exploration for this game.

It's a glitch at the moment that they're not going away once spun, but they should soon if all the info I've read is correct.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 21/06/2017 22:23

Yey, my Go Plus is finally talking. Not that I've got any great catching plans in the next 24 hours. Hopefully my streaks will restart tomorrow...

MuddlingMackem · 21/06/2017 22:55

Now that the event is over I've evolved my best Houndour and Cyndaquil and finally have a Houndoom and Typhlosion.

Other than the regionals, I think I now just need Amphoros, Tyranitar and Unown for Gen 2, and the first two I will, eventually, get from buddying. Still waiting for an elusive Tangela to complete Gen 1 though. ::sigh::

PickAChew · 21/06/2017 22:59

I've not even had a Mareep. I missed one a few weeks ago - it spawned for DS1 but not me.

Will have to check back on the rings when it's all working, then. Went shopping this evening and they were all back on the way home.

HandbagKrabby · 21/06/2017 23:00

These are my gaps, I can walk the others, perhaps I'll take up ultra marathons...

Snorlax 10
Hitmonlee 10
Yanma 5
Unown
Hitmontop
Militank 10

To hatch
Pichu 2
Igglybuff 2
Elekid 5
Magby 5

Efferlunt · 21/06/2017 23:07

So pleased the fire event went an extra day so I could finally get a Charizard. Still haven't got the evolve of the angry blue fire otter thing though.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/06/2017 23:13

Still haven't got the evolve of the angry blue fire otter thing though.

Really? They (Cyndaquills) were like Pidgey's here; got nearly 200 candies.

Need to evolve my best Charmander, Cyndaquill, Vulpix, Houndoor, Pikachu and my super awesome high CP Arcanine Grin

But it will take a lot of studying to make sure I pick the right one, and I don't want to get it wrong! So will take a few days before I evolve.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/06/2017 23:14

Growlithe, that should say, not Arcanine as that is it's evolved form Grin

EekBarbaraItsaDalek · 21/06/2017 23:20

The event has been brilliant. I caught two Lapras today. Also got enough candy to evolve Houndoom and Typhlosion. Just Hitmontop, Amphoros and Unown to go for gen 2. I also went for a couple of walks with lucky eggs so I'm 250k into level 34. I wonder when the gyms will start working.

HandbagKrabby · 21/06/2017 23:21

Can I ask about powering Pokémon up?

I have a 1500cp Lapras that I hatched with 30 candies. If I power it up the cp goes up 36 and the hp goes up 2 each time. Is this how people have got 3000cp+ Pokémon? It sounds insurmountable so I'm wondering if I've missed something.

I have a 800cp growlithe, a 1000cp ponyta and a 600cp charmander to evolve at some point!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/06/2017 23:27

HandbagKrabby Powering up is how you get high CP Pokemon however there are a number of factors to consider.

Wonder, or caught attention, Pokemon are generally the only ones worth powering up. Anything lower than that takes far too many candies and too much stardust to be worth it.

So if you want to power up a Pokemon, you want the one with the highest CP and the best appraisal possible.

If you power up a Pokemon to the max for your level, then when you go up another level you are able to power it up another two times.

Unless a Pokemon has a CP of over 2000 when caught, hatched and/or fully evolved, it generally is not worth powering up.

Also never power up anything you don't intend to gym with as it's a waste.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/06/2017 23:30

Although I must say if you have a wonder 200 CP Charmander and a not making much headway 500 CP Charmander, you should evolve the 500 CP despite the poor appraisal because the wonder one is too low; to get the same high CP you'd need a lot of stardust and candy, and it still wouldn't be good.

In this example though, the evolved Charizard would not be worth powering up because it would be take far too much resources in either case.

inniu · 21/06/2017 23:38

What is the maximum amount of Pokémon you can have without regionals?

I have 232.

I know I still need the second evolution of a mareep and it is my buddy. I still need an unown. I don't know what else I need?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/06/2017 23:51

inniu Are you asking how many Pokemon there are altogether in Gen 1 and Gen 2 excluding regionals and legendaries? Or are you asking how many Pokemon you can hold at any one time?

As for finding out what you're missing, check your Pokedex. Where there is a number in a box, you're missing that Pokemon. A box with a shadow of a Pokemon means you've seen that Pokemon in the wild or in a gym, but you have never caught one.

TrashPanda · 22/06/2017 00:00

Found the shiny new thread. Evolved a Quilava and Typhlosion and still have 140 odd candy left after that event. Up to 9k off Level 29 too. Need 6 to complete now. Walking Togepi to get Togetic, on 34 candy. Also need Flaafy & Ampharos, on about 80 candy, and Pupitar and Larvitar, on about 75 candy. Have a metal coat for Scizor but only about 10 candy. Started playing just after our biggest local nest was Scyther which is annoying.

Never really done much gym stuff. Hope to start after the update as I think you can get special items and strong Pokemon.

inniu · 22/06/2017 00:01

What todo,

I mean how many are there in gen 1 and gen 2 excluding regionals and legendaries? How many realistically can I have in my Pokedex. I have 232 on my pokedex now.

Are some of the blank spaces in my pokedex for legendaries? I know some are for regionals because I have a shadow for one of them.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 22/06/2017 00:06

There are 151 Pokemon in Gen 1, but 5 of those are legendaries and are not in the game yet (Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres, Mew and Mewtwo) and there are 4 regionals (Tauros, Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime and Farfetch'd).

So that leaves 142.

Gen 2 has 80 Pokemon. Regular Pokemon Delibird and Smeagle are not yet in the game, and there are 6 legendary Pokemon (Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh and Celebi) also not yet in the game, and of course there are 2 more regionals (Heracross and Corsola).

So that leaves 70 available to catch.

So excluding legendaries, regionals and Pokemon not yet in the game, that leaves 212 for you to catch Smile

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 22/06/2017 00:07

Last message was for you, inniu Smile And yes, the pokedex is the pokedex for ALL the Pokemon in Gen 1 and 2, including Pokemon not yet in the game (majority of which are legendaries).
