L: ryvita with a broad bean/avocado/lemon/basil/garlic dip, a big tomato, a small piece of nut cheese and dates
D: green salad, mushroom ‘omelette’
S: alpro cherry yogurt

@KobaniDaughters - hope your day has been less stressy today and that you're all coping with the hot weather and our mostly inadequate air conditioning situation 😂 Did the move all go smoothly?

@ppeatfruit - it was the Isle of Wight festival that we went to, which was fab. My favourites were Nike Rodgers and Chic and Muse. Some of the Glastonbury sets were available on iplayer so might be worth a look
Good luck with new tech 😊

KobaniDaughters · 14/07/2022 08:46

Everything going relatively smoothly but excited to get up to london this weekend. We’re in the south @ppeatfruit in Hampshire - we know NOBODY!

IOW festival sounds ace @PartTimeDomesticGoddess how were the food options??

yesterday DD did her taster day at the local village school, we haven’t really wandered round the village yet as we’re in an AirBnB in the nearest market town until 25th, so DH and I took the opportunity for a walk - 6miles later we deserved the pub lunch! I had their vegan fish and chips….I’m not sure what they used, could have been banana blossom I think? It was ok, the home made tartar sauce though was lush as were the mushy peas

pretty filling though so just made a big salad for dinner. DH and DS also had the pant based chicken kievs which they said were great so we’ll
get those again

had a slice of soreen as an evening snack

ppeatfruit · 21/07/2022 09:47

So we had to transfer my tickets because we had happened to pick the hottest day in England for my journey!! So I'm going next Thurs. Luckily we got the money back. So I'm still in relatively cool mid west Fr. much better now because the weather has broken. Same as England I reckon. I hope you all survived being boiled!

Breakfast; o\n soaked sultanas, whole lemon, fresh ginger prune juice\water and fresh peaches\ ground linseeds smoothie.
Lunch; red onion, fresh basil cucumber salad with olive oil pnut butter and yeast spread on spelt toast.
snack; one vegan choc ice on stick. Supper; h\m veg\beetroot juice with ryvitas

@ppeatfruit you are the glue that holds the thread together 😊 I replied in my head to the last couple of posts and then forgot to actually reply 🤦‍♀️
Glad to hear you got your money back and that the weather had broken for you. It's broken here too, still nice summer weather but not tropical at night which is a blessed relief

@KobaniDaughters would love to know where in Hampshire you got vegan fish and chips! That's what I fancied for my birthday but couldn't be arsed to go all the way to Brighton
Hope you all coped with the heat given that I'm sure you're all used to much more air conditioning than we have. How are you all settling in?

We did our first bbq in years on Monday, and Tuesday had dinner from the chippy (chips, curry sauce and bread and plant butter for me)

Yesterday was
L: paella
D: summer veg coconut curry with chickpeas

Today
L: tofu matar (Meera Sodha's take on pea and paneer) curry with rice
D: spicy chickpea and courgette fritters, avocado, spinach, broad beans, purple carrots and roasted tomatoes

PartTimeDomesticGoddess · 21/07/2022 22:32

@KobaniDaughters the food at the IoW was OK. There were enough vegan options although not that many healthy ones 😂 Highlights were an Ethiopian dinner of Misir Wat (spiced red lentils) with veggies and rice and a marmalade toastie!

ppeatfruit · 25/07/2022 13:02

You won't believe that we had to transfer the ticket into Aug. AGAIN 😐 because of the strike!!!! so I'm coming over by Eurostar next Tues. Luckily I'll be going the right way (there are never long queues in Lille) Probably coming back will be more crowded but I'm used to it!

That's sweet Domestic. Thank you.

Ref. Aircon kobani. I let my body get used to the heat gradually (keeping the shutters closed against the sun in the morning and opening them when it gets less oh and opening all the doors) . This house is ancient and made of stone so it is used to extreme weather! DH is trying to cut down on AC due to the environment (and my nagging!!)

Breakfast ;
o\n soaked dates .prunes whole lemon and apples\apple juice\water with fresh ginger and pumpkin seeds smoothie.
Lunch;
HM mushroom, white bean, onion and garlic, herbs loaf. with French beans.
Supper. Almond milk carob drink with a couple of ryvitas and put butter.

Domestic. Interesting talking about vegan food and healthiness, it's like any way of eating I suppose; I study healthy eating and I know that you can survive on rubbish just as well (and put on weight!) on a vegan diet! Which I'm doing (putting on weight 😀not eating rubbish! ) because I love summer fruits and am snacking on almond butter . The Paul McKenna WOE is having to be kick started! and eating earlier.
Also I need to get exercising more now the weather is better (i can't stand the broiling heat!).

B; o\n soaked dates 2 nectarines and whole lemon with ground pumpkin seeds, apple juice\filtered water.
L. My nut breadcrumb loaf and a large mixed salad.
S.Oatcakes with my fave spreads and spring onion salad

@PartTimeDomesticGoddess did I see you went for the sophies delight cheeses? 😋

KobaniDaughters · 30/07/2022 10:22

Hello everyone! Sorry to be so awol - just life, but @ppeatfruit have you actually made it back yet?!

we have finally moved into our house and had our first guest overnight and bbq - amazing marinated and grilled tofu, potato salad, grilled courgettes and corn on the cob in our lovely garden overlooking the South Downs, all very quintessential and lovely - breakfast of baked beans, DH home baked bread, roast tomatoes, mushrooms and heck sausages

yup I need to get back onto healthy eating too 😆

PartTimeDomesticGoddess · 01/08/2022 20:55

Life getting in the way of posting here too...

@OhRiRi - yes, I did order a selection box from Sophie's delight. The Gouda was my favourite, which I really enjoyed. Am about to order more of that as well as some blue and some spicy to try...

@ppeatfruit - hope you've made it to the mother land (if that's where you wanted to be of course!)

Good update @KobaniDaughters, no wonder you've been too busy to post much if you've been moving into your new house. Would love to hear more about the amazing tofu marinade for the bbq. A homemade one or a bought one? We barbecued recently for the first time in years and I really enjoyed my bbq veg, but would love to add to that

Lowlights and highlights of the last week or so include eating out twice. One terrible - think tough sourdough pizza base with some kind of completely runny vegan cheese in the middle - and one amazing (pop up kitchen at a Belgium bar in southampton serving Asian style street food)
The other major lowlight was my garage freezer packing up and throwing away most of the contents ☹️. Still, new one coming on Wednesday which I'm sure won't take long to fill up...

Today I've driven to north wales for a couple of nights with work. Hotel have given me a flask of soya milk for tea in my room and I've just had a delicious vegan burger with chunky chips 😋

TheGetaway · 02/08/2022 07:14

DH was given a Deliciously Ella book so has been experimenting with that. I’m impressed so far! (with Ella, DH is a great cook)

I struggle a bit with barbecue food. Not the accompaniments, just vegan food for on the barbecue. Hoping for inspiration here

Lanibanani · 03/08/2022 07:09

Hi all!

I have just started a plant based life a few days ago and loving it !

i was vegetarian from age 13-30 then started eating chicken and fish when I was pregnant the first time . Now nearly 50 and want to not eat anything from animals .

really enjoying it so far, esp oatly single cream thing in my coffee !

can anyone give me some ideas for vegan confectionary in supermarkets ? Other than dark choc which I have . Just love a sweet treat in the evening sometimes !

KobaniDaughters · 03/08/2022 08:55

@PartTimeDomesticGoddess and @TheGetaway i kind of made it up - dark and light soy, crushed garlic, miso paste, chilli flakes, sesame oil and olive oil. I cut one block of tofu in half then each half in half again but horizontal so they were more like steaks IYSWIM, marinated in the fridge for about 5 hours

welcome @Lanibanani afraid I can’t help with confectionary ideas as I’ve only just moved back to the U.K. but I’m a fan of dates in the evening for those sweet cravings!

yesterday I had my brother and niblings over and we did a picky/build your own salad lunch with salad bits and olives and bread, last of the nut loaf, some GOSH falafel etc. Then I put out the BOSH carrot cake I’d found in tesco and it was pretty tasty though more like a ginger cake than a carrot cake

dinner was a random mix of couscous with this Mexican nutty chilli oil I bought in the farmers market, topped with a kind of Italian stir fry of mushrooms, kale, onions, garlic, olives, broccoli and crumbled smoked tofu

then was bored later in the evening (and also loving being back with British bread) and had a fat slice of seeded loaf with oatly cream cheese and cucumber slices. No booze though!
