It seems to me that the UK is the most uninteresting country when it comes to travel.

I’ve lived abroad for a long time and whenever people talk about visiting Europe, they always mention countries such as France, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Germany ECT. But I never hear people enthusiastically talking about wanting to visit the UK. I’ve even heard people refer to the UK as the backroom of Europe. Would you agree that the UK is kinda boring ? Even many British people themselves want to leave the UK.

Disagree. I work with colleagues all over Europe and they love to come to the UK. It’s just easier sometimes as they can easily drive into the other countries

Jiski · 28/06/2026 17:48

What planet are you on? Ever heard of London for a start? We have so much history here- castles, palaces etc. So many beautiful places to visit: woodlands, lakes, waterfalls… So much culture, museums, theatre, architecture…

EnglishBreakfastTea1 · 28/06/2026 17:50

No

Though limited by the lack of a driving licence, I have been on lots of great holidays in the UK.

Some to mention: York, Isle of Wight, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, the Peak District, Brighton & Lewes, Kent, New Forest and the Scottish Highlands.

My parents don't live far from the Cotswolds so it was a day out or weekend away there.

I like history, so stick me in a National Trust property, an old factory/mill or a living museum like Ironbridge and I'm a very happy bunny.

I think more & more people from outside the UK are discovering it, from the social media posts I see on Instagram. TV shows like Rivals is increasing interest.

Stop this denigration of our country. Please, just stay abroad.

Yet another online MAGA I suspect? Do you actually have a passport? Bore off darling.

TwinklySquid · 28/06/2026 17:57

The weather isn’t always great but I think we are lucky to have such great scenery and history . I used to do tours around London for kids from abroad. The company was always fully booked

sohard · 28/06/2026 17:58

Well I live in Scotland and it’s always inundated with tourists so no, I don’t agree with you.

Crikeyalmighty · 28/06/2026 17:58

They haven’t got that memo in Bath

Pelsall116 · 28/06/2026 18:02

I think we have a lot of scenery, culture and history. The problem with the UK is that you can't depend at all on the weather (I know it's not guaranteed anywhere, but I think in the UK it's more changeable and volatile than some of our European neighbours)

ForeverTheOptomist · 28/06/2026 18:05

it's a wonderful place, filled with history, beauty and eccentricity. Where are you getting this negative view from?

liveforsummer · 28/06/2026 18:13

If only - try living in Edinburgh in summer. The whole world is here!

Notpop · 28/06/2026 18:13

I’ve just been to a major tourist attraction on the south coast and the tourists outnumbered the locals. Foreign registered cars and coaches in car park, signposts in at least 3 other languages. So it’s a no from me!

theresnolimits · 28/06/2026 18:21

Fifth most visited European country with 41 million visitors a year. Yeah, no one wants to come here.

living here now ... and have to admit that you are not wrong... it is the culture of the english which makes it different to European mentality ... sights enough to see, but ... people are still like: mind your own business ... except in London with more open minded inhabitants - but they are foreigners ... lol ...

Absolute bollocks and btw it’s etc ,if we are being goady.

Don't teach the bot.

I have literally never holidayed in the UK and definitely didn't book two holidays in Scotland this year. I also never travel abroad because obviously Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Egypt, USA etc have absolutely nothing to recommend them to the average holiday maker either.

It's such a stupid thing to say, most countries in the world have interesting and unique things about them that make them worthy of a visit. The only thing that puts me off visiting a country is how dangerous it is so sadly no visit to Russia (my brother went back in the 90s when it had a brief moment of freedom, wish I'd gone then).

keffie12 · 28/06/2026 18:24

Jeus tell that to the city I live in, in the north, has tourist season is daily where I live. I presume your trolling.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 27/06/2026 16:46

Agreed. The one benefit of living in such a shithole is that when I go to London it's nice and empty because nobody ever visits.

😂😂☺️

MyMiniMetro · 28/06/2026 18:28

Sure. Whatever.

Livpool · 28/06/2026 18:32

I’m in Liverpool and we NEVER have tourists here, not once. You are SO right OP

LienekeS · 28/06/2026 18:33

I am part of 2 groups abroad with tens of thousands anglofiles travelling every year to the UK for a holiday. It is amazing the tips I pick up! The history, landscapes and places to visit are incredible. Get out a bit more.

MyArtfulGreySloth · 28/06/2026 18:38

Well this wins dumbest thread of the day 🎉🏆

Baublebonkers · 28/06/2026 18:41

How ridiculous 🙂‍↔️

deeahgwitch · 28/06/2026 18:44

If the UK is “the backroom” of Europe what do they say about Ireland, which sits behind it 😀
The UK is a fabulous country to visit.

I think it's called Planet Goady.

SapphireSeptember · 28/06/2026 18:53

Better tell all the Americans I know that the UK is rubbish then! Although they love it here (one reason being they can use the NHS) as well as the history and landscapes.
