It seems to me that the UK is the most uninteresting country when it comes to travel.

I’ve lived abroad for a long time and whenever people talk about visiting Europe, they always mention countries such as France, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Germany ECT. But I never hear people enthusiastically talking about wanting to visit the UK. I’ve even heard people refer to the UK as the backroom of Europe. Would you agree that the UK is kinda boring ? Even many British people themselves want to leave the UK.

I think the poster knows quite a lot about at least one of those places already.

Indeed. Which makes it all the more surprising they aren't aware of our fabulous Salisbury Cathedral

whataboutuz · 27/06/2026 19:10

I disagree. I would love to visit the Lake District, the peace district, the highlands, I’d love to explore Devon and Cornwall properly

Lovelyview · 27/06/2026 19:12

Never happened.

notatinydancer · 27/06/2026 19:14

Absolute bollocks and btw it’s etc ,if we are being goady.

hourspassed · 27/06/2026 19:21

I mean I'm not even going to mention London. I live near Portsmouth and 11 million people including 1.5m foreign tourists who visit the city every year would disagree with you there. And have you never been to Dorset, The Cotswolds or the Scottish Highlands?

Dogmum6 · 28/06/2026 12:06

do you use social media ? People are obsessed with visiting UK at the moment. I get it some of it seems dull to me but there are also a lot of stunning places to see.

ChilliBrandy · 28/06/2026 12:16

I'm pretty sure the UK is loved everywhere. I'm an immigrant from Germany and German people love the UK.

EmmaB1309 · 28/06/2026 12:22

STFU

Spaghettimonsta · 28/06/2026 12:26

If you find Belgium a more interesting place to visit than the UK then you need help

Agreed. The one benefit of living in such a shithole is that when I go to London it's nice and empty because nobody ever visits.

Totally agree. I go to London a lot and not once in two decades have I ever spotted a tourist from another country. One definite advantage is that museums, art galleries, and other places of interest are always deserted with no queues. Plus, the tube is always empty and you can always get a seat!

Yogafiend · 28/06/2026 12:31

I think the comment about the people wanting to leave the UK has nothing to do with the UK being boring. But the cost of living, the punitive tax system and the general political uncertainty of the last 11 years. There is nothing boring about the UK. London is a beautiful city with so many things to do and see to kids and adults alike. There’s also Cornwall and Devon that are so beautiful and the Cotswolds are just stunning. The Highlands and Wales equally worth a visit. We have done many holidays in the UK and were always enjoyed.

FictionalCharacter · 28/06/2026 12:35

I assume this is just a goady post, but there's a serious point underlying. The British are self-deprecating to a ridiculous degree. We endlessly talk ourselves and our country down in a way that other nationalities don't.
Just listen to all the Americans claiming (falsely) that the US is the biggest, best and greatest in every way. We pretty much do the opposite, and it's uncommon for us to boast about anything. We go on about how it's always cold and rainy and we have no summers. Foreign visitors are sometimes surprised to get here and find it's hot and dry weather, having been told British summers are cold and wet. We don't talk much about the huge variety of landscapes in the UK. When I was talking to a foreign visitor about the Lake District he was baffled and told me "but there are no mountains in England"!

PPs have mentioned some of the very beautiful, unique and fascinating places in the UK. If even some British people can't be bothered to find out about them and experience them, that's their loss.

And because demand is so low, it's all wonderfully cheap!

Ooh yes- another massive advantage of London - it's cheap as chips!

You can have a whole week's entertainment on a fiver 😉 - I am so glad its such an unpopular place

AgnesMcDoo · 28/06/2026 12:41

That’s the opposite of my experience

and it’s the opposite of our tourism
figures

Have you been in Scotland recently? Absolutely hoaching with tourists!

Shockednotshocked · 28/06/2026 12:44

Dokushozanmai · 27/06/2026 17:34

Yep - Oxford and Bath are so peaceful and it’s lovely having days out in the Cotswolds where you can walk for ages without seeing another person.

Not to mention Cornwall, especially St Ives, practically empty 🙃

ginasevern · 28/06/2026 12:50

Thanks OP! This will help me bust the myth that the royal family pay for themselves in tourism revenue. Given that no bugger ever comes here it's clearly the lie that I always suspected. In fact it's even worse than I suspected.

feellikeanalien · 28/06/2026 12:50

So what is your reaction to all these replies OP?

mondaytosunday · 28/06/2026 12:52

Who are you talking to? Over 42 MILLION people visit the UK each year. It is one of the top ten most visited places in the world. I guess some people have the intelligence and interest to appreciate what is has to offer.

OutOfApricots · 28/06/2026 12:56

Seems like the OP is so uninterested in their own thread they can't even be bothered to return to it.

hahabahbag · 28/06/2026 12:59

Strange because I’m just back from a month in various countries in Europe and they all either were coming here this year or wanted to asap but it’s so expensive! Particularly Scotland and Cornwall from the people I met

zigazigaaaing · 28/06/2026 13:07

omg. i just spat out my tea reading this! London?? Arguably the most cultural diverse exciting city in the world?! numerous other places, we have the amazing British countryside?

anothermumoftwo · 28/06/2026 13:08

So do you always take other people's uninformed opinions as gospel? Maybe you need to educate yourself before posting such nonsense on here. Starting with google and the words tourism numbers might help.....

dottiedodah · 28/06/2026 13:09

So no one interested in London and The Tower,St Pauls ,Stonehenge just to name but a few!Come on OP be real we have some of the best history there is!
