Trafford area 11+ and tutoring

Hello mums,

I was recently told by someone that every parent in trafford tutors their children with the aim of getting them into the local grammar schools. Whilst not 'every' parent will do it, Is this the case? Do even the children who get sent to the local private schools get tutored too generally? I'm thinking of sending my children to the local private schools with the understanding that they might prepare them better for the 11+ exams (as opposed to tutoring them intensively in the run up).....
The person who told me about the tutoring basically said, there is no advantage to paying for private schools to get into the grammar schools as everyone tutors anyway and the local schools are excellent..... Any thought highly appreciated. Thank you

I think most of the private schools do their entrance exams in January.

I hope DD's friend won't be under the pressure she's feeling already until JanuarySad.
DD says her friend just wants to go to the local comp, but doesn't feel able to tell her parents that.
At the Sale exam, they put entrants from the same schools in rooms together, which was a mixed blessing. One child broke down halfway through and had to leave, most of his classmates saw him. Poor thing!

Poor kid. I have friends whose children have taken time off school because the pressure has literally made them ill. It is a big burden for a 10 year old.

That's immense pressure as the child will be acutely aware of how much has been invested in the process and how much the parents want it

Hi can anyone recommend any tutors or direct me to a website where I can find one who specifically tutors for the Trafford schools and is used the university of durhams papers?
Thanks

Anyone know which would be the better out of Wellington or BTH? We are not religious but my kids go to Altrincham CofE primary so perhaps we have little chance to get into catholic BTH? We also live a bit closer to Wellington school. Also, what's the deal with North Cestrian Grammar? is this a state school these days? Is it a bit like Loreto where they have their own entrance exam. Thinking of my son so Loreto is no good since it is girls only I believe. Of course the AGSB would be great but doubtful he would get in.

Wellington is really good. When the time comes I'd be more than happy with that (not in catchment though).

North Cestrian is, I believe, becoming a free school from September, so no fees, no entrance exam. I'd wait to hear how it's settling down before I made a decision though.

BTH is the highest achieving non grammar in Trafford, your chances of getting in if you are not at a catholic feeder school are slim. I have a friend with a daughter at loreto prep who has just had to appeal to get her in to BTH as she didn't pass for loreto grammar and loreto prep is not a a feeder to BTH despite it being a catholic school.
North Cestrian is as of September a free school so there is no exam its admission is based purely on catchment (WA14 and 15)
Another option would be St Ambrose (Catholic boys grammar) they do take some non Catholics and is easier than Alty boys to get in.
Catchment for Wellington is small some years they have not gone much further than a mile from the school.
You live very close to me! if you need any other info no probs I've got 4dc and just done the whole entrance exam thing!

Buttwing - I don't think BTH is the highest achieving non grammar in Trafford. The results at Wellington (GCSE) are much better.

Hi all,
We are in the process of moving to Trafford in Manchester. My son is 8years of his age and will start Y4 in September. I am planning for him to prepare for the 11+ Trafford Grammar Schools entry exams which will happen in two years (at the start of Y6).

We are moving house from London and there’s been a lot of competition at schools / college levels. I have seen parents in London having tuitions twice a week for their children long before their entry exams to grammar schools! My eldest daughter got tuition once a week for 8 to 10 months prior to her exam but we struggled in that time span to cover the most! That’s why I am thinking for 2yrs in advance. It may sound too early!!

Please could anyone suggest experienced tutors for one-to-one session. It will be good to know if you have personal experience of getting your children tutored from them! What would be their rate/hour? Once a week tutoring will be enough or twice a week will make difference? Many thanks in advance.
