VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

Let's say she'd worn a dress for a more 'reasonable' cost. Let's say £100 or so. Lots of people couldn't afford that either. Would people not be happy unless she wore a dress from TK Maxx or Vinted?

The criticism was not about the price of Corbyn's suit but the fact he deliberately chose to wear a navy, hooded anorak and a white poppy on an occasion when the dress code for all politicians and senior dignitaries has always been deepest, funereal black. It was a pointless, look at me being so anti establishment gesture.

I don't actually know what points you're trying to make in the rest of your post or why you've directed them at me. I've not said anything about the price of the dress or that she shouldn't buy it.

No, it was a serious question. How much should she be allowed to spend on a dress and "still be in touch with regular people"

Equally attending the World Cup would have cost a lot more than that dress. Are all Scottish and English fans "out of touch with regular people"?

I think it did her no favours, it didn't fit. £100 is a reasonable amount. It was a very big moment and somehow ended up being about an ill fitting dress designed by VB.

No, she really wasn't. Nothing to do with her looks, she just was ghastly, as was her husband.

Just a word of advice - mascara needs changing every three months or so.

Expensive mascara is the ultimate waste of money.

I find that mascara only lasts about 3-4 months but I am an avid user.

If you are old enough you may remember Derek Hatton, he was a far left politician. Now Derek had a penchant for Armani suits, and obviously flack for it. So, if you are even older you may remember Micheal Foot, again a left leaning Labour party member in the 1970’s and 80’s. Anyway old Michael there when laying a wreath at the Cenotaph on remembrance Sunday was criticised for wearing a donkey jacket, if you don’t know what a donkey jacket is, it’s a heavy wool jacket worn by workers with large leather patches on the shoulders, anyway the point is it was a garment association with working men. The papers on the following Monday were pretty scathing about Micheal Foot outfit, calling him a scruff. So my point is, if you are on the left then when it comes to clothes etc, they can’t win.

Oh I'm old enough to remember Hatton and as a Labour supporter then I despised him and it had nothing to do with his suits.

Hatton was a member of the Trotskyite Militant Tendency and claimed to be a Marxist. He was depute Leader of Liverpool Council and was catastrophically bad at running the city.

He was rightly vilified by both Conservatives and moderate Labour supporters because he and Militant Tendency were mad, bad and dangerous. Militant Tendency was making Labour unelectable. Neil Kinnock's finest moment was kicking Hatton and his like out of the Labour Party. .

As it turned out he was, predictably a charlatan and a hypocrite, to no one's surprise.

The criticism of Michael Foot was unfair. Foot's politics were unrealistic but he was a man of principle. Hatton was a chancer looking after no one but Hatton.

If there is one word that Cherie Blair isn't, it's endearing.
