Jade or Jane or are they both boring?

I really like the sound of both these names but have been told they’re boring and plain (plain Jane)
I am aware they were both more common in previous era and that doesn’t bother me.

But is Jade any more boring than another Ava, Isla, Ada etc

Jade has been done way too much over the last couple of decades.

I'd go with Jane.

Has it?

NamingNoNames · 24/06/2026 19:24

@OneLimePombear , no. It's not been popular in the past 20 years. Not been in the top 100 since 2004

That’s what I thought.

I know loads of young people called Jade. Don't know anyone under the age of 50 called Jane.

Jade is nice. Not keen on Jane. (Sorry to anyone called that, it's not a bad name, it's just not one I would call a baby girl in 2026.)

I agree. Most Jades I know/have known - (about 6 or 7,) are in their 30s. A couple are in their early 40s.

I know so many Jane’s but i’m 1970’s born, though Jane was a common first name, it was even more common as a middle name. Jade is ok, though also a little dated.

I prefer Jane and agree with others, most of the Jades I've come across were unlikeable. Could you maybe spell it Jayne?

Pemba · Yesterday 13:03

Why would you do that though? The spelling Jane is classic.

Specialneedsnightmare · Yesterday 13:05

Definitely not Jayne.

Jane 👍

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 13:08

Plain Jane. Hate it. Jade sounds quite bohemian, though some may have other associations if a bit older - I always picture Jade Jagger.

paradisecircus · Yesterday 13:09

Jane is my middle name (I'm in my 50s). I think it's a bit boring. I quite like Jade.

UltimateSloth · Yesterday 13:34

I know a Jayne and she's always having to spell out her name for people and getting it spelled wrongly. Jane is nice, but spell it Jane to make it easy for her

Hihu1 · Yesterday 17:47

Jade
