A thread to share and celebrate success for those of us who don't know many fans of weight lifting in real life?

I am fairly new to lifting, yet to pick up a barbell! Grin

Have started my first programme that involves just one big lift per workout. And I'm loving it! I'm in wave 1 and in wave 3 I hope to get PBs on my squat, dead lift, bench and OHP.
It's also got me doing accessories for the first time - I'm mixing up exercises for my weak areas (glutes and triceps) and my abs (so close to getting these popping).

A change is as good as a rest Smile

One of my favourite programmes. Saw lots of "gainz" using it

Glad to hear it!! I did DLs today, with a top weight of only 80% (from memory) and it was tough. Blaming it on a bit of a calorie deficit I'm running this week and a disturbed night's sleep.

So, today I did some DLs and accessories (tricep dips, tricep extensions, stomach crunches, russian twists and a 45s plank).

I've over done it this week with weight lifting, yoga and spin and am ready for a rest day tomorrow.

Managed to push press a 24kg kettlebell on Wed and clean a 28kg. Can snatch a 20kg reliably now but not yet managed the 24kg.

Give me a few weeks though...

Back squat today now more than my own body weight strong hold at the bottom very explosive on the way up. Legs are more than hurting after this weeks five leg sessions twice a day training them earlier in the week too. Rest day tomorrow chill out time with a nice sports massage then a pampering manicure and pedicure I need it

I made myself up a little kettlebell "complex" routine today - DP was out so I had to use what I had at home. With a 12kg KB, it's 5 sets of:-
10x squats
10x one-handed swings (both sides)
10x reverse lunges (both sides, alternating)
10x deadlifts
10x push press (both sides)
with quick & seamless transition from one to another,

Hi Ladies, can I join the chat?

Started training in Feb, really unfit and over weight. Had never lifted anything before and, tbh, disliked gyms immensely.

4 months in, I'm really starting to enjoy it although prefer weights to cardio. Have lost about 11kgs but have at least that to go to get to where I want to be.

Personal best wise, I'm at 72.5kg for deadlift, 75kg for squat but only 32.5kg for bench press. Leg press, my pb is 325kgs.

My PT seems to think I've got a natural affinity with lifting and I'm so chuffed I've found something that I feel I can do and am advancing in so it's great to find the weights room!

Just wanted to say thanks for getting this started, I'm finding it really motivating.

Thanks Mide7, although I'm a big girl and still have a way to go to get to lifting my own body weight so am in awe of some of the posts on this thread!

Hi Monkeys. That all sounds really good for a newbie!
I'm so proud of myself today - was doing sets of 2 deadlift every 2.5 min and despite my previous (post baby) 1RM PB being 100kg, I managed 4 rounds of 2 at 105kg! I also did 5x3 snatch with weight progressing from 32.5kg to 40kg. My technique felt a million times better and more comfortable so I'm really happy!

Squat day today, felt good but only managed 4 reps before failure on the heaviest set and it's not the PB I'm aiming for this cycle.

The bigger you are the harder it is to lift bodyweight monkey. From what I see on the Internet, lighter type people like to talk about relative strength. While bigger people like to talk in absolute strength. Grin ( I say that as a 100kg man so I would talk in absolute)

Chiruri that's brikliant well done on your DL! Especially after just having a baby! I had s PR last night too 92.5kg backsquat (to paralelll) aiming to make it deeper and also to get to 100kg which would be 1.5x body weight xx

chiruri · 04/06/2015 09:53

Thank you Grin. I finally feel strong, with visible muscles, again after having my beautiful DD.
That's an excellent squat, too! I've yet to break 100kg, but I've recently managed to get back up to my previous PB of 97.5kg. I weigh 75kg so I rarely talk about relative weights Wink.

30kg power cleans as part of a WOD. So pleased with this bearing in mind I broke my elbow 4 months ago and my previous 1 rep max power clean was only 37.5kg.Grin

Report
chiruri · 04/06/2015 19:26

That's seriously impressive so soon after breaking your elbow! Well done!
Today I did 4x3 clean and jerks progressing from 42.5kg to 52.5kg, followed by 5x5 front squat, progressing from 50kg to 62.5kg.
Muscles are really feeling it from yesterday so think I'll be taking a rest day tomorrow.
