A thread to share and celebrate success for those of us who don't know many fans of weight lifting in real life?

Just discovered this forum!

Hit a PB on deadlifts last week - 2 x 12/2 x 10 x 67kg (body weight 49kg).

I love deadlifts.

Thank you. It was good but nerve wrecking. I didnt go too heavy so I knew i'd be ok.

Great news about your gym getting a refurb? Do you go for the trainers? Mine has fantastic trainers.

I actually am worrying i'm going to gain weight as im eating far too much as im used to more cardio. I need to do photos and measurements asap.

Sounds like you are doing great and the inches are falling off!

Hi Craze! PTs are brilliant, aren't they? I see mine once or twice a week and while I haven't lost much weight I've gained serious muscle thanks to her. A bodyweight pull up is a great goal. I've been doing inverted rows as we don't have a pull-up station at the gym yet (another thing promised for the refurb!) and they're getting easier.

Good luck for your solo session!

Hi penguin! I'm here. I've just started a weights programme after 8 months of gym classes including spinning, kettlebells, HIIT and boxing.

I have treated myself a PT and currently see him once a week with my partner. We are combining weights with tabata intervals to build lean muscle. I train 4-5 times a week.

Some figures...so far ive squatted (x10) 40 kg for 2 sets, dropped to 35kg for the third set, deadlifted (x10) 50kg for 3 sets and done all kinds of other stuff. My partner has been with me for each session so far but im going to try a solo session friday as we have going children.

My current goal is to do a bodyweight pull up.

Anyone out there? I just discovered this forum, thought at last I have found my people and then saw the thread hadn't been updated for a while...

I'm lifting at a regular old gym. It's totally lacking in the barbell department although we've been promised Olympic lifting stations in the refurb... PB of 60kg (x15) for deadlifts, 110kg (x15) on the leg press and all of 15kg on a back squat. We've only got a Smith machine and it's really hard to find a comfortable position to squat in. I've got to be a bit careful with the squats as I've got a couple of prolapsed discs--much improved by deadlifts, though!

I've been looking at Strongwomen training but I suspect that's probably going to be a terrible idea with a dodgy back!!

Could I join please!? None of my friends lift apart from people I know through my PT and online fitness group.

I use kettlebells at home (on my own twice a week or with PT once a month).

My current strength is:

16kg kettlebell clean & press (with a bob!) or 12 kg strict.

24kg kettlebell swings.

20kg squats (goblet hold)

20kg single arm lunges

16kg halos

Don't really do many deadlifts now but if I do it has to be VERY slow with a hold then drive up otherwise I don't fatigue

I go heavy for low reps

I eat a lot

Next month is fat loss for summer so I won't be lifting as heavy Wink

Is this thread still going? I haven't focused as much on strength progress recently, but I checked in on my 1 rep max for a few lifts last weekend, and I'm up to 120kg for my deadlift which is a big improvement from where I was before! I still can't really bench press to save my life so need to work on that...

And it's usually my grip that lets me down first, so I might need to look into how I improve that too - any tips welcome.

Haven't posted in here before - hello! I'm completely new to weightlifting - over the last few weeks I've been learning the lifts (with help) and now I'm having a go at stronglifts 5x5. I started with just the bar and so far I'm up to
Squat 27.5kg
OH press still 20kg
Bench 25kg
Row 32.5kg
Deadlift 45kg.

Loving it so far - it's quite addictive! Looking forward to seeing where I can go with it, any tips for a complete beginner much appreciated!

I had a week off training with a horrid stomach bug, and only got back to it last night, with a circuit of deadlifts, push presses and lunges. I don't think I lost too much strength, but I am extremely sore today. It's mostly my bum, which is great as it feels like I'm doing something right! Smile

I need to have a decent PB session.

This morning was a metabolic circuit weights class but yesterday I did:

  • 40kg Romanian deadlifts 3x8
  • 50kg deadlifts 3x10

Then supersetted 4x12 the hamstring curl (10kg, variations on foot position) glute cable kick backs and the GHD machine with a 5kg plate.

Ooh good people are still here!

I had a goal of 100k deadlift but I've been waylaid by Kettlebell pentathlon training.

I'm sitting at a PB of 80 so far.

Good work brain and cross, sounds like you're both making good gains! A 100kg deadlift is on my goals list for when the baby's born and I can lift real weights again, you'll have to keep us posted cross.

90kg deadlift - 150% of bodyweight! I am so ridiculously proud, I got 85kg over a year ago and then nothing more for ever. Really convinced by my trainer's cycle plan - would love to get 100kg by Christmas but 95kg will be very cheering.

Good work brainwashed. Overhead PRs are the best because it takes so bloody long to get them in my experience.

I've recently just set a new strict overhead press PR. After it staying the same for about 2 years, altho I haven't focussed on that lift much.

I struggle with form on squats, my ankles are just so inflexible (can't do a yoga squat with heels down either). The reason for this is usually hip and/or ankle inflexibility I think.
