What do you think of Tarot card readings and similar?

I went to a 'psychic medium' yesterday who was highly recommended by close people I know.

I'm not sure if they were tarot cards or another type of cards. I picked 8 cards, she talked through them. They had relevance to my life but I am skeptical and think that any card could have been twisted to fit my life. She asked a lot of leading questions and I feel like I filled a lot of gaps for her.

My DH saw her separately and thought she was brilliant and bought every word she said. Thought she knew a lot about his life and past and believes every word she said about his future.

What do you think? I'm intrigued because so many friends have totally bought into it.

So they are both the same then. You just claim a different nonexistent power than the Tarot people do.

I did look at your links. And the very first line of the second article:

“We are gathering a company of prophets in different local cities and regions, so that we can prophesy into the atmosphere to cause a shift in the region,” said one prophet. "

Then in the third paragraph we get this :

"You just won’t find that line of thinking, terminology or practice in the New Testament. “Prophesying” into the atmosphere,...."

That is oddly specific. " into the atmosphere". Do Tarot people say that ? I have never heard of it.

Then second paragraph says " To be clear, I am a strong proponent of the Ephesians 4:11...."

Lets look at that, And that verse says , Eph 4:11 and He gave some [as] apostles, and some [as] prophets, and some [as] proclaimers of good news, and some [as] shepherds and teachers,".

So we have it. Even in the Christian article you posted, there is a claim of telling the future.

The Holy Spirit does have the possibility to give someone a revelation about their life. It is not limited to that though.
They have sent me some revelations in my life. The gifts can be used to protect you as well and if genuine it is well intentioned.

Once I was quite ill and the Holy Spirit sent an image of me going into hospital with family gathering and then a series of church elders one after the other. They didn’t explain it and it was a picture message. I went onto go to end of life treatment and family gathered and then got healing from Christ the next year for a nervous condition. I think that Christ did claim his healing miracle then.

Once they gave me some hope by sending me a zebra running and more detail. It meant a variety of things and to be hopeful. Possibly as we know spiritual liberation is possible for all Christians. It was a needed reminder for me.
These have been rare in my life and have been in times of difficulty for my well being.

However you are saying you were given the gift, but if other people say they have a gift, then they are fake ?

I just know that anything from God's Holy Spirit is what we consider in my faith the only true authentic source.
However, I don't know if others may be able to get an accurate message using a non trusted source. I have known some not to be accurate. I don't rule out that some may be using corruptible sources be all able to pull up something but generally they are not generally reliable.

So reading that, it seems you do believe people can be given the "gift" ?

You just think some have a bad source. So surely the conclusion is that you do think people can read likes of Tarot cards ?

Holy Spirit gifts are only given by the Holy Spirit. If somebody is using another source then that is not the Holy Spirit that they are using. Tarot cards do not use the Holy Spirit for their work.
You could have a Holy Spirit gift and depart from the faith,and if you still had it God wouldn't use it for your work with tarot cards etc.
Some alternate sources get things accurate by chance and going by what you tell them. I read that demons are becoming more tricky, but I know that their sources is not to be trusted and is not reliable.

@Justmerach, respectfully, from other threads it is clear, you are gullible, vulnerable, naive and hopelessly underinformed about the religion you supposedly espouse, and if anyone asks you a straightforward question, you dash around googling for answers without the slightest apparent ability to distinguish between sources, or to grasp those sources’ agendas. This site you keep quoting is a podcast platform for the kind of televangelists who makes shit tons of money out of claiming to ‘unlock’ the secrets of prosperity etc if you just buy their book, subscribe to their podcast. I got caught up with some Christians who were really seriously into healing, prophecy, words of knowledge, speaking in tongues etc when I was in my teens. It seemed amazing at the time, and I was hugely excited by it, but I'm now convinced the people behind the church I was in were massively fraudulent. They were manipulating and exploiting people - including me - really badly, and it's left lifelong scars that I've needed a lot of therapy to overcome.

There's nothing miraculous or supernatural about any of this stuff. Derren Brown can recreate the effects of supposed spiritual gifts using entirely psychological techniques, and is quite open about how he does it.

I don't think that is so, but life is a learning course. I am comfortable with what I know. I have a degree in religious studies and an MA. I am not here to write essays on this forum. I have over 40 years experience with my own faith.
The source I linked to is scriptural. I have read it and it was a fair source. I don't know the writers, but there are different writers. I know when something is factual or not when I read it.

I will write that people were continually asking questions quite beyond the scope of the thread. I was having to do research that they could have easily done. They could have researched the same way as me for their own answers. They were asking questions that nobody seemed to be answering to at times and there was a time limit. The topic of the question though was answered.

I am sorry that you was exploited in the past in a church. There are so many different church's today and they are not all the same. I am a non denominational Christian and go to an Anglican church today. I have never been exploited there. I have a Catholic background and I was not exploited there either. I have been exploited in other ways though concerning one of my conditions, that was more personal with people I know who were trying to make money from one of my parents and were ill informed about a condition that I had and I have learnt to live with this cultural clash. That didn't effect my personal journey with my faith though.

It seems that you may have not progressed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit church's have been resurging in some countries and there are Catholic Holy Spirit services which are run by Catholic priests. The church I attend I have had lasting healing there using I think the gifts of healing of the Holy Spirit. I never prayed for healing either. I have seen some of Derren Brown's work and it is nothing like a true experience with the gifts of the Holy Spirit to me that comes from God's Holy Spirit.

And from the conversation that followed it appears you do believe in them, you just don't agree with them because they use a "different source".

I do not believe in any of it myself. Because there is no hard evidence. Not for Tarot cards, mediums, or any religions. There is simply no supernatural. And what I find is that it can be frustrating when talking to people believe in one supernatural thing while dismissing others, and who simply refuse to see the logical disconnect with that.

But it seems you have seen the logical disconnect, and have changed from that position quoted above ?

I find it ironic that religions that teach people to be truthful and honest actually appear to do the opposite. It is my firm opinion that to believe in many of these religions or faith systems, that the believer really has to be dishonest with themselves for it to make logical sense.

I cannot say what I do not know and I am writing about my experience. I was sent to an unknowing place by someone in my teens and they recorded a tape. I never listened to it for decades. I went there once and couldn't tell you what their faith was back then. I listened to some of the tape recently and it was full of wrong information. Wherever they got their information was wrong. They was bouncing of things that I told them. Also, they said I would get married and God showed me it was not me recently.
I think may be some people God will not give them their information, especially if they can be vulnerable to others to abuse.
I cannot make that claim that there is not one person out there today that could give accurate information using another corruptible source as I do not research this area. I can write that they are not reliable or often trustworthy using their corruptible sources.

That’s my point, @Justmerach — it wasn’t ‘research’ (you were googling) and no one was asking for ‘information’, they were pointing out the inconsistencies, contradictions etc of a sacred text you believe is divinely-authored and literally true. I don't know who I am conversing with as I cannot access your posts. I don't know if you are a witch, atheist or a Christian etc. The post was on scripture about Jesus Christ being the Son of God which has nothing to do with this thread. Being a complete stranger to me you discuss about me and are inaccurate.
The thread was taken off topic. The thread was about scripture and how Jesus Christ works today through the Holy Spirit.. There was lots of questions and not often on the nature of the thread. People were looking to discuss anything going in the Bible which was not the object of the thread. Why should I have to research what is not the nature of the thread. The links that I posted myself with intention where legitimate. Responding to others questions not about the thread I made it easier for myself and read and agreed and posted google like they could.
The sermon was not random, I heard them in person and they was on topic. They were posted in good effect.

The links that were posted in this thread were actually very informative on information on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Whether something is a podcast or not or someone is a televangelist is not a reason for me to not read their work. I know some people will get an income from this and there may be fraud, but it is not sound to accuse everyone of this. Nobody forces anyone to buy material.
I will go by the quality of what I read and on the gifts they are one of the best out there I have seen.
