What do you think of tarot readings and psychic mediums?

What do you think of Tarot card readings and similar?

I went to a 'psychic medium' yesterday who was highly recommended by close people I know.

I'm not sure if they were tarot cards or another type of cards. I picked 8 cards, she talked through them. They had relevance to my life but I am skeptical and think that any card could have been twisted to fit my life. She asked a lot of leading questions and I feel like I filled a lot of gaps for her.

My DH saw her separately and thought she was brilliant and bought every word she said. Thought she knew a lot about his life and past and believes every word she said about his future.

What do you think? I'm intrigued because so many friends have totally bought into it.

Well, if you are a non believer it doesn't matter does it ?

It sort of does when there are Christians in the WH waging what some of them see as a holy war.

I saw a tarot reading psychic who accurately predicted I was going to meet my future husband via work, and we would shake hands. I didn't believe it.

Two years later, I moved to a new job/ company.

I was out at lunch with a colleague one day when she bumped into her former uni mate. She introduced us and yes, we shook hands. Reader, he's now my husband.

The skeptics can say what they like but when the psychics are accurate, they're scarily accurate.

There are so many fake ones out there and the gifted ones are rare. I've not met any other psychic who came close to that level of accuracy I experienced.

A lot of people meet their husbands and wives through work. And it’s quite usual to shake hands when you meet someone new. So not really scarily accurate…..

Right?

Some people are scarily gullible though 🤣

Iocanepowder · 26/06/2026 06:51

I think they are all con artists and anyone who uses them are desperate unless for a bit of fun.

How many things did the psychic talk about. Is that all that was talked about ? That you would meet someone through work and shake hands ?

And technically, being out for lunch with a work colleague and meeting someone who is not connected to your work does not actually fit the prediction of meeting someone via work. You did not meet via work.

There are many Islamists in the UK Parliament at the moment, I'd be more worried about them.
These are the MPs who are pushing for cousin/cousin marriages, Sharia Law and for funds to build an airport in Pakistan !

itsnotfairisit · 26/06/2026 07:27

My very rational DiL (with a very high flying job) tinkered with tarot for a while and had this take… they’re prompts to help the subject think through life problems. They’re not magic, they don’t allow the reader to see the past or future; they just allow the reader to help the subject think through situations and problems. So think of them as tools.

What MPs are pushing for Sharia law ? And an airport in Pakistan ?

Cousin marriage. I have seen a bit. Need look that up for reminders.

I think it's a load of old guff!

Thmi74ci7rv · 26/06/2026 07:48

I think some are real and some are fake.

Over 20 years ago I saw a palm reader who told me she could see two children with the exact same face and then said twins

I didn't have twins, but I did have my DC in 2015 and 2016 and despite having a boy and a girl.......they have always looked like twins, they have the exact same face and features. The older child is smaller for her age and my younger child is taller for his age so they've always been the same size too. They even sound the same, if they call me from another room I struggle to tell who wants me

RedTagAlan · 26/06/2026 08:14

The airport in Pakistan. That is a cross party group of Brit MP's who have written a letter to ..... The Prime Minister of Pakistan. And it's in Kashmir.

Sharia law. Support for the existence of Sharia courts. The courts that already exist and are not legally binding in any way. Similar to seeing a Catholic Priest for guidance really. No MPs are campaigning for Sharia courts and Sharia law to be legal.

Cousin marriage. It's legal in the UK. MPs want to make it illegal.

Exactly. I worry about your reading comprehension, @Courtjesterisfunny. It doesn’t bode well for your reading of the Bible, I must say.

Derren Brown addresses this one of his TV shows. He's spot on with his 'readings '. He wrote a letter to a group of uni students as part of the show and some were in tears. They accused him of reading their diaries. They swapped letters and they were identical. He's adamant that he's not psychic and no-one should be fooled.

There's also a great video on YouTube of him exposing a fake medium. The guy was using all the classic tricks like saying "I'm just going by what the spirits tell me" when they're off the mark.

Much like the highly recommended medium i went to see 2 years ago. Luckily she didn't charge me but I have to laugh when I see her popping up on Fb & people gushing about how great she is

To be fair to @Courtjesterisfunny , the airport one took a bit more digging. The first results were UK right wing sites that did not say WHO the letter was to. But given that Kashmir is disputed, I wondered if it was perhaps a UN thing that the MPs wanted the UK to support. So I searched for that, then I found out it was a letter to the Pakistan PM.

So it is a cross party group of MP's asking the Pakistan PM to consider a proposal for Pakistan to fund an airport is a disputed territory held by Pakistan.

Lots of evangelicals in there just now.

It's not the evangelicalism that's the problem with them. It's their false gospels - Prosperity, Dominionism. In a weird way they're mirroring the IRGC's ideas of 'bringing the Mahdi' via seeding discord and wars. They're all trying to force God's hand.

Would you believe it @GentleSheep , I have just this moment posted on another thread about Christians not agreeing with each other. Its a thread on Paganism and monotheists and atheists on the religion/philosophy board. You should join us on it. It is confusing me and making my head spin.

I have looked over this post and have not seen it posted about the Holy Spirit gifts so thought that I would post about it.

I don’t believe in mediums or tarot cards.

I think God’s Holy Spirit is the only way to receive accurate spiritual guidance through the gifts of the Holy Spirit which is written about in (1 Corinthians 12) in the Bible. This is about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and those who are using it authentically. Some may not know about them or want them, but they are all accessible to all Christians. They range from faith, knowledge to healing and more.
You can read about it more here and you usually get these after being baptised through faith. It is a faith and not about just being a Christian for the gifts. God gave me one of these gifts as a teenager.

You can read more about the gifts of the Holy Spirit here if interested.

The prediction of Jesus being born for example. That seems to be telling the future. Why is that different to a Tarot Card person ?

What is different is that the Holy Spirit is not being used with the tarot card person.
I thought that you may be writing about the gift of prophecy which is one of the 9 spiritual gifts in the Christian faith. This gift is not to predict the future as such, but to support the believer and the church.
This explains more about it. After Jesus there is not meant any more revelation on scripture. This explains about the differences now post Corinthians.

This post explains that with most things in the world people may seek to abuse some of the Holy Spirit gifts, but their work will not be authentic from the Holy Spirit.
