You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

We will be keeping all of our changes, and I think most people will be back in masks.

Nicola Sturgeon hasn't made changes to isolation up here yet, but HT has already said that we will have to make an additional policy for a class with a known case who are still in school.

Happy holidays btw everyone Gin

MrsHamlet · 17/07/2021 21:36

We're keeping our one way system and our front facing rows. The very expensive extra sinks and loos are staying.
In theory we're giving up bubbles - forms go back to rooms not zones, and we can group students rather than teach in forms. We're back to single periods.
But there is a secret covid timetable which undoes all of this. Just in case.

Mistressiggi · 17/07/2021 21:45

Unless I could drive, I suppose (though I do love having a drink on the train Grin)

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/07/2021 22:35

I hit the wall this evening. We drove down to the seaside at 4pm (to get a couple of hours on the beach, swim, chippy tea etc) - I slept all the way there in the car. Not done that since I was pregnant (and there is no chance of that!). Just got home, now in bed.

Mon - Wed are going to be interesting if I'm a zombie.

Exciting news coming up about a means of liaising re meet up, watch this space!

TheHoneyBadger · 17/07/2021 23:13

I'm sporting a slightly sunburnt chest, legs barely changed colour though of course. What is that about?

I glued curriculum overviews and lists of assessments in my planner and diary today and bits like that and I have now closed them and put them on the shelf. Tomorrow I'm going to tidy away all the textbooks and worksheets that are scattered about the place and get it all out of site and I may pop into school on Monday to check I haven't left student boxes of books in any classrooms we were temporarily using whilst ours were refurbed. If so shred and bin as appropriate and then I'm done for a while.

Not sure how I feel about trains and crowded places. Haven't done either for a long time. I have pretty much lived within a half a mile radius of home for the last year and a bit except for the gym.

What excuse will Johnson use not to self-isolate, I wonder?

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 07:22

JCVI has recommended against mass vaccination of teens, the Telegraph is reporting.

Vulnerable teens will be offered the vaccine.

Good to see this sort of announcement being made via the media again Hmm

I know I'm nit picking, but some of those letters aren't in the right places on the Venn diagram! 🤓
noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 08:06

Better?

TheHoneyBadger · 18/07/2021 08:17

Took me a while to 'read' the second venn diagram but it's good Smile

Did you know Florence Nightingale was the first person to use a pie chart? Something interesting that came out of watching documentaries on the Victorian era with year 7s last week.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/07/2021 08:19

Well it was a polar area diagram technically

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 08:21

Yeah kind of like a histogram version of a pie chart. I'm glad we don't have to teach them!

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 08:24

He and Rishi are reportedly doing the 'daily LFT pilot' that got Gove out of isolating.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/07/2021 08:25

Apparently Boris hadn’t been contacted by T&T late last night...

Telegraph trying to write iSAGE off as a bunch of Commies/anti-brexiteers

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/07/2021 08:27

But why on earth would that pilot still be running when most will be able to dodge iso from 16 August??

TheHoneyBadger · 18/07/2021 08:28

I've requested information on 2 post grad courses:
-educational psychology MSc
-education with leadership MA.

Not sure if this is just renewed energy and needing a sense of direction with the start of summer holidays or if I genuinely want to study more.

The thing with education though is I don't feel like there's particularly a link between increasing your qualifications and progressing in your career which makes me think the second one may be a waste of time and money and the former at least has more applications such as designing and running intervention programmes (though again you'd have to convince a school the money and time where they can't have you teaching was worth it).

Any thoughts?

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 08:28

Reported on twitter, Jan

I am unreasonably annoyed at being contacted by T&T being referred to as 'being pinged', which should only refer to the app.

Well not if you're female, according to those graphs piggy posted the other day (really must look at that report).

Especially not if you're part time.

That’s fascinating honey! Done by a woman...

I wonder if there’s evidence of people thinking what a useful format that was and then adapting it.

I have looked into being an EP and wouldn’t do the masters as that’s not enough to qualify. Can you go straight onto the doctorate?
noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 08:39

Oooh, just seen a reminder on twitter of the daily LFT testing protocol that says the trial is normal isolation versus daily testing and that participants will be placed into study groups at random.

How convenient that Rishi, Boris and Gove all got randomly allocated the daily LFT group isn't it?

TheHoneyBadger · 18/07/2021 08:49

I'm not sure I'd want to be an Ed Psych Appu - more to develop programmes in school, run specialist interventions for behaviour and mental health issues etc plus have a bit more recent seeming commitment to education than having worked extremely part time as a teacher. I've never encountered an ed psych in the 3 years I've been back in permanent employment so I'm not sure where they hide them all. I'd want to stay in schools, move to being closer to full time but without increasing my teaching load but being able to do more pastoral work with kids and possibly in supporting staff deal with those kids.

Sounds pie in the sky-ish doesn't it?

Maybe it's that I need to use my brain again before it melts completely into a perimenopausal fog.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/07/2021 08:49

The odds on that must be pretty slim.

Done by a woman...

IIRC correctly, data analysis, like programming later, was considered women’s work at the time.
