You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

We've still got year 10, they'll be my only teaching group left if we send the rest of year 7 (which I think we might, from what someone in SLT said).

Appuskidu · 16/07/2021 20:43

I have never seen so many FB posts or MN posts in one day saying their children’s bubbles/class/year group/school has been sent home!

Will there be any record of it all?! And where’s Gav, do we reckon?!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/07/2021 20:55

"Where the fuck is Gavin?" Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2021 21:04

A question that should be asked at least once a day.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 21:19

Why the fuck is Gavin?

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 21:30

Am wondering if there are any Y10s in school in the whole of the country

I've got a handful to teach next week. Or rather attempt to crowd control. They pretty much checked out the week before the final.

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 21:32

I think all of ours are coming back next week. Latest spate of SI ended today.

FlagsFiend · 16/07/2021 21:35

We finished today but I'm isolating anyway. Took a call today telling me another student I teach was positive although I don't think she was a close contact an earlier one in the week was. Same class opposite sides of the room...

HarrietDVane · 16/07/2021 21:44

I'm so very envious of all those who've finished today! Didn't get out of work until gone 7pm due to a performance management meeting (mine). Why schedule this for a 5.30 start on a Friday night?!

No new bubbles have gone at my school today, but two staff members had to leave early to collect their children from different schools with burst bubbles. My social media is awash with people self isolating/bubbles bursting. I can't believe that we are losing restrictions on Monday. It's insane.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2021 21:54

It'll be fine Harriet. There is no way the lack of self isolation in the last week of term is going to lead to lead to an increase in the number of households having to isolate during the first week of the holidays because they have covid, right?

HarrietDVane · 16/07/2021 22:02

I could cry. We've tried so hard to keep it all at bay all year and it's just going to be undone in the final week. Local cases are rocketing but I think a lot of people are still going to go berserk when the restrictions lift.

I don't have a holiday booked this summer, thankfully, but I shall be furious if I end up having to isolate because of some selfish family from school. We are well aware that a significant number of children who are supposed to be self-isolating are doing anything but.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 22:47

Oh Harriet that is shit. Performance management this late in term on a Friday? Some people are just terrible managers and shouldn't be in the job.

Fingers crossed for a straightforward end of term.

BadlydoneHelen · 16/07/2021 22:51

Four bubbles burst at our (primary) school this week, two of them today- can see school closing tbh

CallmeHendricks · 16/07/2021 22:58

That does sound shit, Harriet.

Are there any stats anywhere on how many schools are closed/how many pupils are out this week?

And does anyone know what proportion of current Covid deaths are from people who have been double jabbed? Dh was asking and I've googled and can't find anything on it.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 22:59

Stats for absences yesterday should be out on Tuesday, Ange

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/07/2021 23:01

CallmeHendricks · 16/07/2021 23:02

Ah right, but I don't suppose many will care as schools will either have closed for summer or be about to.
I wonder if Gav would have done anything about schools had we not had this natural break occurring. I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say no.

Timeturnerplease · 16/07/2021 23:04

Friend who I was supposed to be meeting tomorrow just messaged to say that her DP caught covid from Wembley last Sunday and they’re now all stuck at home for ten days. I hope he’s hiding because she sounds like she’s about to rip his balls off for trapping them at home with a three year old and a baby. He’s old enough to be double jabbed, she isn’t, which is making her extra grumpy.

There are two children in my class whose dads went to Wembley on Sunday too. If our bubble goes because of football….

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 23:05

If you raise the chaos in schools people just say kids shouldn’t be isolating.

We’re saving that treat for September.

DreamingofBrie · 16/07/2021 23:05

That sounds dreadful, Harriet, do you have sadists at your school, scheduling a performance management meeting at 5.30 on the last Friday of a particularly shit year?!

Congratulations to everyone who finished today 🥳. I took ds to pick strawberries in the morning and it was lovely to spend the hour with just him. The strawberries were amazing too.

I don't even know what to think re. covid strategy anymore. Starting to feel a bit tin foil hatty. Are the got deliberately trying to infect as many people as they can?

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/07/2021 23:10

iSAGE definitely think it’s a herd immunity strategy, even if the government “didn’t mean to”!

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.dw.com/en/fact-check-do-covid-vaccines-protect-against-the-delta-variant/a-58263950 Here we are re deaths. 118 double jabbed have died but most will have been vulnerable. 116 over 50, which is not wildly comforting for some of us.

CallmeHendricks · 16/07/2021 23:18

Thanks Jan. How many have died altogether from the DELTA variant?

HarrietDVane · 16/07/2021 23:34

Sometimes it feels like that! It wasn't too bad in the end but I could barely string a sentence together by the end of it as I was so hot and tired! Not long to go now though.

The case rates are really worrisome. I don't think we'll be venturing far afield at all this summer.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 00:40

68% of Mumsnetters think teachers deserve a pay rise and 76% think that their school handled lockdowns well.

www.tes.com/news/gcses-2021-teacher-assessed-grades-unfair-say-parents

So the bellends are a vocal minority. Happy end of term everyone.

ChloeDecker · 17/07/2021 06:35

Hurrah! Yes, I’ve always expected that the naysayers were all the same people/name changers repeating ad nauseam.

Another week for me but I will be enjoying this glorious weekend weather that’s for sure!
