You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

We are well aware that a significant number of children who are supposed to be self-isolating are doing anything but.

If the Mumsnet threads are to go by, I’d hazard a guess that it’s probably the majority of parents not self isolating when they should be. The selfishness of human nature is really rearing its ugly head there.

eitak22 · 17/07/2021 06:53

Happy Holidays to those who have made it! Enjoy your well deserved rest.

Glad to see that most mumsnetters appreciate what teachers have done. Can't believe how many schools are isolating, am wondering if we'll get through the last week unscathed as imagine my HT sending a year group home anyway. We had 2 children meant to be isolating go on holiday so people really aren't following rules anymore.

WhenSheWasBad · 17/07/2021 07:36

68% of Mumsnetters think teachers deserve a pay rise and 76% think that their school handled lockdowns well

That’s really good to know.

Piggywaspushed · 17/07/2021 08:13

I don't understand so may teachers saying this year's CAGs won't give kids the grades they deserve when we did them. I feel far happier than last year. Besides which , I would answer the same for exams . No one asks that question but they don't give all young people the grades they 'deserve' either.

Piggywaspushed · 17/07/2021 08:13

The TES headline is a bit tabloidy. Instead of picking the positive stat out they use the alarmist one!

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/07/2021 08:27

@Piggywaspushed my Y11s aren’t getting what they would have without covid. They had no online provision from March to September. Some had poor attendance between sept and December due to isolations, CEV members of family, an easier way than normal to not come with an excuse. Then January - March online but many don’t have anywhere to work, no family that value work or parents that were key workers (bus drivers, shop workers, hospital cleaners) and they were looking after you her siblings etc… in lessons they work so hard, when we have them four times a week their homework is better and they attend hwk clubs in school. But they just missed two much - 1/3 of the two years. We can’t combat that if they aren’t in school for that particular demographic. We know from experience how much progress we make with that group in the final weeks but

Although I don’t think I’d say CAGs were unfair as if we’d left them all the sit exams they’d be disadvantaged still. There wasn’t an answer - but I would say the whole thing wasn’t fair on them.

Appuskidu · 17/07/2021 08:32

Do any secondary Republicans know when the A level results might be next year!? Our school have said it’s the 11th August, but are they just hazarding a guess, based on this year? I was thinking it would probably be the 18th?

Rosegoldfan · 17/07/2021 08:32

I think our y11 grades are too high as the students were allowed to go home after the exam and come back the next day to think about it and the next day. So up to three chances.Blush

Beachhuts90 · 17/07/2021 08:55

@Timeturnerplease

Friend who I was supposed to be meeting tomorrow just messaged to say that her DP caught covid from Wembley last Sunday and they’re now all stuck at home for ten days. I hope he’s hiding because she sounds like she’s about to rip his balls off for trapping them at home with a three year old and a baby. He’s old enough to be double jabbed, she isn’t, which is making her extra grumpy.

There are two children in my class whose dads went to Wembley on Sunday too. If our bubble goes because of football….

I am still seething over the fact that so many people were able to go into Wembley without a ticket and find seats because there were empty ones for social distancing.
CallmeHendricks · 17/07/2021 09:48

@MrsHamlet

I did maths cover yesterday. In y10. Question: express 75% as a fraction. Answer: I dunno. That's well 'ard. How'm I meant to know that. Eventually I got 1/4. How do they not just KNOW that?
Most of our Yr 5 could do that.
SquashedFlyBiscuits · 17/07/2021 09:49

Three more days to go for me. So near yet so far. Very pleased to have a quiet weekend this weekend. Ds has miraculously managed to stay in all year. He just has two more days of primary school to go. A school trip Monday (crazy!!!) and a leavers assembly (one adult per child outside in the playground so less crazy) Tuesday. Will he make it???

Just can't wait for summer and to feel like I have some control.

ChloeDecker · 17/07/2021 09:53

I assumed back to normal dates next year Appuskidu but who knows!

Can’t have teachers being praised, eh Piggy!?
MrsHamlet · 17/07/2021 10:16

So... about Jan's suggestion of a meet up. I'm game...
... or at least I will be once the bone crushing end of term tired is gone!

FrippEnos · 17/07/2021 10:20

@noblegiraffe

You have my admiration, I have no idea how you manage to keep your head on so many threads.

I think that the question was just 'do you thing TAGs are a fair way to assess students' or something. I didn't think about whether that meant had they had a fair crack at the whip all year. I suppose my views on this are coloured by the frankly ludicrous ALGI group who want to use schools left right and centre and seem to think all teachers are incapable of awarding students a fair grade...

The scariest thing is my DS, year 12, and al his cohort, who had algorithm crap and we will never find out, until year 13 A Levels (if they happen!) whether they are actually any good in public exams or not...

Piggywaspushed · 17/07/2021 10:54

Use should say sue! When I want to type use I always end up with sue. How annoying.

HSHorror · 17/07/2021 11:16

Are schools checking the register do you think for who was in? As dc1 has a email but hasnt been in.

Hercisback · 17/07/2021 11:48

Secondary school do check the register. Primary generally don't because the teacher has to SI so whole bubble closes.

What's the rules re isolating from Monday? I know they've been posted before but my Google skills are hungover today.

HSHorror · 17/07/2021 12:05

Yes thats what im thinking. But really they should as it's going into people's holidays.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 12:08

A class closed in my DD's school and there was a kid who hadn't been in so they joined another class for the isolation period.

If they're home because their class has moved to remote learning rather than because they were a close contact then they shouldn't need to also isolate, but I think the school should also try to make accommodation for them to be in school.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 12:10

Hah Fripp I think of it as akin to teaching bottom set Y9.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/07/2021 12:27

@Hercisback no explicit iso rule changes from Monday. It’s just that, effectively, close contacts in school won’t exist because T&T aren’t going to bother contacting schools if a student tests positive, unless it’s deemed an outbreak.

Not worrying at all....

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/07/2021 12:28

MN could be interesting next week as parents and many school staff (where schools are still open) learn this. Or maybe not, let’s see.

HSHorror · 17/07/2021 12:35

Ours is an outbreak.
Nursery/reception/4 and 5... And y1 parent but not kids.
I assume some positives still in asymptomatic.
There were lots with negative pcr a few days before with 2 kids with temps and 2 with cold and cough. .so maybe suggests a testing issue here ?? As in lots of false neg pcr. As the one positive parent's kid had a supposedly non covid temp
