You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Sounds like it @HSHorror.

Sick of hearing politicians and others saying “Of course I’d put a mask on if indoors and other people were anxious” How on earth would you know? Or if they were vulnerable?

But I like the Equality in the NHS apparently ‘popping up’ vax clinics in Primarks, The Tate, The Oval and at sea fronts.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/07/2021 13:48

Saj has got Covid. That didn't take him long. Presumably the rest of the cabinet who'll he'll have been in contact with won't be self-isolating.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 13:51

Oh am I terrible person for laughing? Poor Saj will have to miss Freedom Day because soaring infection rates caused by his own favoured policies have bit him on the arse.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/07/2021 13:51

Thought we had made it. Broke up yesterday. Got a phone call just now from my ht to tell me we have to self isolate til next sat as one of mine has tested positive.

So much for the plans for my first week of the holidays.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/07/2021 13:52

the health secretary says his positive result came from a lateral flow test, which he took after "feeling a bit groggy last night".

FFS though. Even the health secretary can't be arsed to follow the public health advice on which test to use.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/07/2021 13:54

If you are I am too, noble.

Nooooo. DrM. Did you have going away plans, or just general plans?

Piggywaspushed · 17/07/2021 13:54

I note he took a LFT when he had symptoms. Does he even know his own rules?? Be embarrassing if the PCR overrules.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/07/2021 14:04

It's going to be even funnier if it turns out he got it from one of his school age kids.

Not for the kids, obviously. Unlike Javid I don't advocate just letting loads of kids get covid.

CarrieBlue · 17/07/2021 14:05

@Timeturnerplease

Friend who I was supposed to be meeting tomorrow just messaged to say that her DP caught covid from Wembley last Sunday and they’re now all stuck at home for ten days. I hope he’s hiding because she sounds like she’s about to rip his balls off for trapping them at home with a three year old and a baby. He’s old enough to be double jabbed, she isn’t, which is making her extra grumpy.

There are two children in my class whose dads went to Wembley on Sunday too. If our bubble goes because of football….

DH and DC are at Wembley today for the challenge cup, but max 45000 (and it’s not sold out) plus I very much doubt RL fans are as stupid as football fans, certainly not as aggressive so won’t storm the gates. From the photos they are safer there than they are at school.
noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 14:08

Even if he gets a negative PCR he'll still have to isolate for 10 days because of the positive LFT, piggy, according to PHE.

Sorry you're having to isolate, Maddie, hope it hasn't spoiled too many plans.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/07/2021 14:13

Had general plans which I'm now obv cancelling. Nail appt with dd. Afternoon tea with my sister for her birthday. And generally wanting to just enjoy mot being toed to work.
But not going away anywhere until mid August. And the weather is lovely and I have a nice garden so could be worse.

FlagsFiend · 17/07/2021 14:15

Although to be fair to him 'a bit groggy' is not one of the testable symptoms. I took an LFT when I had a sore throat as also not on the eligible for PCR list... (I feel a bit odd defending him, but I'd rather we got annoyed with him for things he has actually done wrong!)
HSHorror · 17/07/2021 14:22

Cant say im sad he has made some horrifying calls. Obviously dont wish him ill though.
So contact letter is definitely wrong but unclear if it goes back to tuesday school time when dc was in. Ive tried asking whatsapp so i can say to school but not surprising noone is going to want to say. So ridiculous that no contact time range is given. As in you should have the info to say my child wasnt in those days

Piggywaspushed · 17/07/2021 16:19

Loads of our kids have been released if they get negative PCR noble after a positive LFT. It trumps the LFT. Its only if you are a contact you stay isolating whatever the outcome of tests you do.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 16:27

I know two people in the past couple of weeks in different parts of the country who have been told to continue to isolate by 119/PHE with a positive LFT, negative PCR. I assumed it was because infection rates were so high that they didn't want to take the chance that the negative PCR was the false one instead of the positive LFT. The rows about positive LFTs being most likely a false positive only applied when infection rates were low.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/07/2021 16:28

To be fair to Saj, he could have taken a LFT but fully intended to take a PCR if he managed to get a slot as soon as one available. And yes we don’t know what “a bit groggy” means. I imagine he will be called upon to clarify those points!

I’ve just given DS a lateral flow (neg) whilst we wait for PCR results. So, since the sunburn on Wed eve he’s still feeling sick, and said he felt hot. Tbf he’d told me that over the phone yesterday (he’s at my ex’s Thu - Sat as normal) and I hadn’t thought anything of it. In fact I’d kind of told my ex off for letting him stay home yesterday as I doubted he was ill at that point! (Ex has form for that, big time.)

But today I thought he’d better get a test as the “burning” has gone down but he’s still feel ill and hot. So now we have to wait.

Complicated by his sister asking if he can stay at their dad’s so she’s not a contact and doesn’t have to isolate - she was away Mon - Fri so hadn’t seen him! Not entirely sure T&T would accept that if he turns out to be positive, but we’ve agreed he can stay at his dad’s until we get the result. If he is positive I want him here in case he does get ill. (He’s my baby - and ex would be rubbish at looking after him.) Just checked the rules and what Priti said in November. She basically refused to say whether isolation rules trumped court ordered contact. Not that that’s quite our situation, we wouldn’t have him going back and forth.

Anyway, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Had to walk my ex very slowly through the isolate while awaiting test result/ what isolating means/ yes it does apply if you’re double jabbed/ no you can’t go and get food/ no you’re not expected to starve rules....

Piggywaspushed · 17/07/2021 16:39

We had 3 kids and their 70 billion contacts back on Friday because PCRs were negative. High case rates but very passive local HE.

Rumour Mill says Saj got it from school age daughter.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 16:44

Twitter shows Saj visited a care home on Wednesday. He was def not 2m from the residents.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/07/2021 16:51

Shock noble

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/07/2021 16:54

Energy has that bit now

“Earlier this week, Mr Javid made his first visit to a care home as health secretary at Aashna Care in Streatham, south London.

The home has a 100% vaccination rate among staff and residents, the majority of whom are from a black and minority ethnic background.”

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/07/2021 16:54

*Beeb not energy....

HSHorror · 17/07/2021 17:06

Jan maybe he has heatstroke /dehydration. Sunburn can make you feel really ill.
Our school has called it.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 17:12

Yes, feeling sick after sunburn can be a symptom of heatstroke. Maybe phone 111 for advice as it's been a few days now.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/07/2021 17:17

@MrsHamlet

So... about Jan's suggestion of a meet up. I'm game... ... or at least I will be once the bone crushing end of term tired is gone!
I'm game too. If the others all flake out on us we could have our own meetup. We could do that anyway tbh, seeing as we live relatively close to each other.
noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 17:18

Will people stop arranging private meet-ups that I'm not invited to.

Foot stamp.
