You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Using my crystal ball I predict attendance and behaviour will be poor on Monday no matter what the result

Hi staff :)

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/07/2021 22:57

Thanks @StaffRepFeistyClub (I keep reading your new-ish UN as something to do with the Tufty Club (If you’re old enough to remember that!).

Tufty club is some sort of sex swingers thing right?

Love you Staff and your dedication to thread starting and relevant titles :)

StaffRepFeistyClub · 09/07/2021 23:01

Glad my school has started holidays as it doesn’t matter if England win or lose it will be a struggle to teach on Monday - kids tired, kids upset, kids hyper or only half the class in because parents are tired/upset/hungover/hyper

I was in the Tufty club!

Remind me, when you apply for an internal post you don’t have to complete all the boxes on the application form, do you, as they (eg) know how many A levels you got already?

Discovered today that a colleague is also applying for the post I’m eyeing up. However I don’t think she stands a chance, IMH(and honestly unbiased)O!

I spent some time today with Y10, many of whom I literally haven’t seen for 18 months. And it was a mufti day. Can you imagine how many times I thought “Who are you?”, “Gosh you’ve sprouted!” and “Curses, I remember that it’s wise to remember your name but I cannot for the life of me remember your name!”?

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/07/2021 23:38
  • hopefully they also know that one’s grammar is usually impeccable. Additionally, that sometimes typos happen.....
Sureitwillbegrand · 09/07/2021 23:43

I'm just gonna stand over here in the corner, with my mask on, well away from everyone. 💩 has hit the fan here getting it from all sides Confused a significant number of cases at school including teachers, DD1 sent home as a close contact (different school) and DD2 on last week of primary. PCR booked for tired/headachy DD1 and 🤞it's clear.

In other news I stood up for myself regarding timetable and won! (And the Head supported me Smile) I can't tell you how happy I am and looking forward to being 'just' a teacher next year.

RigaBalsam · 10/07/2021 01:23

Thanks staff.
Loads of schools allowing pupils to come in late Monday. We had an email saying they have missed enough school so won't be doing it.

I took my year 10 back to ths labs today too after 18 months out. I did a required practical on density. A boy asked me. ' miss can I have the water now?' I said sure it's in the tap. Grin He replied ' oh yea theres sinks in here. It's funny what they forget but did make me chuckle.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/07/2021 04:51

Thanks for the new thread.

That sounds lovely riga, I enjoy hearing about kids who forget quite basic stuff.

Hercisback · 10/07/2021 06:36

Thank staff.

LolaSmiles · 10/07/2021 06:48

Thank you *staff,.

Great news sure. 👏

Monkeytennis97 · 10/07/2021 07:28

Thanks Staff Smile

DanglingMod · 10/07/2021 07:31

Very cute story, Riga.

BigBobBoots · 10/07/2021 07:36

Thank you Staff.
Just 3 days to go for me.
Sorry to hear of those with positive cases in their families, fingers cross they are all mild.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/07/2021 07:49

Morning. Thanks for new thread Staff.

I used to like a density practical. Plenty of blue roll required for spills but it actually makes sense to the kids (and me) and has loads of real life analogies and applications.

Next week I’m doing a lot of chartism and a lot of health in industrial revolution (literally 2 lessons on repeat but probably cut short with pleas to do something fun) and a lot of running round finding year 9s to give mocks feedback. Early finish on Friday and I think they’re in forms for most of it anyway.

Forgot to bring books home so have a lot of marking to do over the week but I have a work free weekend.

In more surprising news the tt guy has responded to my email and actually moved a lesson so I have more equal days and no trapped time Shock yet Smile

DreamingofBrie · 10/07/2021 08:12

Morning everyone. Thank you for the new thread, Staff!

I am north of the border for a flying visit, was the party proper who retired to bed at 11pm last night whilst everyone else partied on 😴.

Need to get UCAS reports sorted then will take some time out before trying to do the questions from the Y13 textbook.

ChloeDecker · 10/07/2021 08:29

Jammy so and so over here!

I finished yesterday my UCAS references skeleton for my Form that I had been writing all week (I’ll be Yr 13 tutor next year) all 24 of them! I also teach them so could add the subject paragraph from me at the same time.
A HUGE weight off my shoulders for September.

I’ve been so impressed how much they have been doing in their own time to get virtual work experience, do online courses, get paid or voluntary jobs and webinars etc that they have joined. We must definitely not underestimate the drive of this cohort during Covid19 and I hope they are not considered the ‘covid generation who had easier ‘exams’ etc. by the general public and therefore not given the credit many deserve. They have been a lot more resilient than many of the adults have!

cornercupboard · 10/07/2021 08:29

It was Sports day at our place yesterday but with no year 6, who are isolating. And no parents - which made it less stressful. Far more children being unsporting and crying when they didn't win, than I remember in previous years - lockdown princess syndrome?
I came home with a filthy headache as usual, so treated myself to fish and chips. 8 days to go, my bubble hasn't burst yet, competition with us and year 1 who are the last years standing.....

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/07/2021 08:37

lockdown princess syndrome

This is it!! Perfect description. Loads of it going on.

Appuskidu · 10/07/2021 08:37

Thank goodness it’s the weekend (even if it’s raining!).

Everyone is just on their knees-parents having wobbles about next year, teachers in tears, bubbles popping, kids are falling out with each other left right and centre. Please let this week go by smoothly-with no more positives!
