You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Oh dear Appu. It's so uneven - our school is fine yet kids in others are having isolations and losing time.

Jan you'll get your revenge in October when you have a two week half term.

DenbyChina · 25/06/2021 12:39

@JanFebAnyMonth

Don’t worry Carrie, there’s several of us who seem to be doing the extra week. We’ll ask anyone posting about lie ins, fun days out etc, in our last week to include a TW in their first line.....
Genius plan.
LolaSmiles · 25/06/2021 12:44

Poor DC appu
Some schools seem a lot more prone to cases than others. It must be so hard on children and parents.

Piggywaspushed · 25/06/2021 13:17

Has no one wished anyone a Happy OBON day yet?? Cake

AttaGirrrrl · 25/06/2021 16:45

I’ve not been in here before, but I’ve bought my own mug and I promise to wash the sole staff room tea spoon when I’m done with it, not just leave it in the sink.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2021 16:48

I heard that song emanating from a classroom at school today, piggy Shock

I think it was a teacher taking the piss, I can't imagine Y10 singing along!

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/06/2021 16:55

It was my turn to do the surge testing with my form today. We've learnt lessons from earlier in the week, and did the actual tests during form time then registered them online at lunchtime. That was far less stressful. Especially since I gave them all a post it note with their own addresses, parents phone numbers and email addresses written on. More work in preparation, far less stress for all involved at the time.

One child in my year 10 class today coughing away. She'd been "ill" yesterday so missed her PCR test in school, and really didn't understand that she needs to go to a test centre for one as she's got symptoms now!!!

Piggywaspushed · 25/06/2021 16:57

Welcome atta. We aren't supposed to sit down but feel free to stand around awkwardly.

PumpkinPie2016 · 25/06/2021 17:09

Well, after a hideous day yesterday, today was much better.

Y9 were the only difficult point of my day. They seem to have become feral Confused I phoned a fair few parents after the lesson and all were lovely and apologetic so hoping that helps! I wouldn't mind but we are doing lots of practical work now which they have wanted all year Confused

I'm starting to get tired now and still have a million things to do beforw term ends. 3.5 weeks to go!

DS finishes his quarantine today so we are hoping to go out over the weekend although the weather isn't looking great.

WhenSheWasBad · 25/06/2021 17:17

Welcome atta glad to see you are respecting the lone teaspoon.

Had two year 9s today. One group were angels the other bloody awful.

LolaSmiles · 25/06/2021 17:24

Welcome Atta.
Please don't sit down though. We might get in trouble.

Yes, yes, my school did send a email reminding staff that we could be held responsible for a covid outbreak for sitting whilst waiting for the printer as that would take the staffroom over acceptable numbers. Nobody had a solution on how a whole school manages to print their resources though.

RigaBalsam · 25/06/2021 17:42

Thanks staff. We have a case in every year group. But only one year sent home on Teams.
We are bringing back masks too.

Held responsible how? What do they imagine they'd do in response?
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/06/2021 18:08

I had the day from hell - personally more than professionally. Literally everything that could go wrong, went wrong - dropped things, broke things, car wouldn't start, coffee machine broken, didn't get to my gym class on time, forgot my lunch, all the printing I'd sent through last night from home didn't print, my laptop's delete, space and enter buttons are being tempermental.

Then my Bob decided to come in to school and the classroom, first time in months, so I was having to spend time with him to try and work out what the hell I'm going to do with him. This meant other kids were more feral than usual.

Someone called someone a pussy hole, someone told someone to fuck off. YAAAAY. 18 days.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2021 18:18

But was it a better or worse day than the one Matt Hancock had, Rule?

I don't know how you do it at your school, tbh. If they're talking about paying teachers more to work in challenging schools, it sounds like you deserve it.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/06/2021 18:21

I don't think I do 'do it' particularly successfully.

So many staff in tears today. Everyone so close to the edge.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/06/2021 18:23

Oh no, I forgot to sing the song.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2021 18:26

Rule, you're still there, and one of the most important things for those kids is consistency. It doesn't sound like they have much of it elsewhere.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2021 18:26

Not too late, Rafa!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/06/2021 18:36

I'm going to do this year (or maybe just until Easter), then ask to go part time. If I can't get that with them, then I'll leave.

Namechercanged · 25/06/2021 18:37

We have masks back on Monday. 2 bubbles gone and a further few cases within them.

ChloeDecker · 25/06/2021 18:44

As a union rep, today I had the most number of people come to me very upset, struggling and needing support today than the entire panic-both men and women.
Staff are just done-all the good will, understanding and trying to cope with it all is not sustainable.

For example, I had a colleague just about finished with their ‘cupboard’ that they eat/take their breaks in (our staff room is still a Year 10 classroom). Could anyone outside teaching in Mumsnet world comprehend having to eat their lunch/break in a cupboard attached to a classroom for a year?

We need to have our staff room back-even just to feel not so alone/isolated.

ChloeDecker · 25/06/2021 18:45

*pandemic not panic

😁. Sent it onto dd, who might not know the song but will appreciate it! She has been properly repulsed by today's news.
