You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

What exactly is the point of an hour and forty minutes of detention? What will be achieved in that time that can't be achieved in an hour?

TheHoneyBadger · 24/06/2021 21:55

I missed a whole page. Yay for a strong LSA Rule - must make a huge difference.

I'm guessing I'll see my timetable on the first INSET day in September.

No fucking idea.

If I had a strong teenager for an hour and 40 minutes my classroom could be transformed Grin

HarrietDVane · 24/06/2021 22:01

Hello and thanks for the new thread! Shamelessly place marking while I catch up...

And the teenager would come away feeling useful. I suspect this will just be sitting in the hall though.
JanFebAnyMonth · 24/06/2021 22:10

That does seem ridiculous honey - and, - from a whole other POV of course - who has the joy of supervising that detention?

My DS has just told me about him and his madcap Hmm best friend using his spare egg from food tech to play catch with in Afternoon break. Apparently they managed to do this, including the point at which said egg broke on his friend (phew!) without the duty member of staff noticing

MsAwesomeDragon · 24/06/2021 22:30

@Piggywaspushed

Now you see why my school paid year 11s and my DS to input all the data, MrsAD...
Oh yes, I wish our school had done that. I have to do it with my year 7s tomorrow. I'm going to spend form time in the morning making sure they all know and can spell their own addresses. And that they know a parents phone number (loads of the year 8s today couldn't copy a phone number accurately). If they all have that info in front of them when we get to the computer room it should make things quicker.
Mistressiggi · 24/06/2021 22:46

Actually Honey I've just remembered that I have a strong teenager of my own and am now wondering if he could be bribed to come into school with me in the summer to help me tidy up!

borntobequiet · 24/06/2021 22:46

Well according to my thread in Chat many Mumsnetters’ children know their addresses from an early age (this may well be true given the demographic).

DrMadelineMaxwell · 24/06/2021 22:52

My strong and handy teen dd is already roped in to come in during the summer. She loves coming during the holidays to help. No idea why.

I'll go in for a half a day or two if staying in my room. And a couple of full days if I get to move rooms.

cantkeepawayforever · 24/06/2021 22:52

We did 'write your address' in lower KS2 a couple of weeks ago.

Extraordinary.

I'm slightly inclined to post some of the envelopes that they addressed., just to see the postman's reaction....

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/06/2021 22:53

I think my DC knew their address better when they were sub 8 yrs old than they do know - it’s lost the interest factor!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 24/06/2021 23:15

Only the downside that they arent a full 30 so there's scope for kids to join from elsewhere mid year.

One of the classes in my cohort only had about 8 kids finish the year that had started in that class. We're really transient. I've lost 5 this year and gained 4. Got another one starting Monday.

noblegiraffe · 24/06/2021 23:24

That must be very disruptive, Rule. We're all teachers, but such massively different experiences. Out of all my classes one has left this year, and two new starters.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 24/06/2021 23:45

The Monday one is a doozy. I'm glad they are only coming back for a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, my child was taken away by her grandma tonight, so we went out to dinner alone. How exciting! Actually had normal conversation, laughed and drank booze... instead of listening to a moaning child, and trying to convince her to eat. It's been a long time since she stayed away a night.

I've got 3/4 of my reports to write by Monday. Hahahaaa. That's an exciting Friday evening plan, innit. Have 3 hours of a hair dye job on Saturday when I can perhaps get 4 done too.

motherrunner · 25/06/2021 06:49

3 weeks to go people (on the main).

Am hoping with the 19th July looking like SD is scrapped then I can have my bloody classroom back. I am tired of dragging my ass and all my worldly school belongings over the school.

I nearly lost my shit with a male member of staff yesterday. My work room is by a unisex toilet but it has been labelled ‘men only’. This is because the female toilets were reduced to five then over to certain year groups. We have 3 toilet cubicles for a mainly female staff. Men have the 2 unisex toilets. Make colleague said to another as they were waiting (I overheard) ‘sucks being a man in this place’. FFS! you have 2 toilets between 10 men, you don’t have periods, you don’t have peri-menopausal flooding, you don’t wash your hands and have shit hygiene.

Feel so much better to release that 😆

motherrunner · 25/06/2021 06:50

*give them over (not five)

As a whole school we're similar which makes it really difficult. Glad you have a strong LSA this year.

We've definitely found put where much earlier this year which is good. Means the inset were having isn't pointless for LSAs.

cornercupboard · 25/06/2021 07:29

We have found out, but the children haven't. Another teacher gave in notice this week so there needs to be another rejig and appointment, so that might delay children being told depending on who they get. We've got transition week rather than "move up morning" where the new teacher comes to the children in their current class, every morning for a week (?!) but I presume the current TAs stay put? No parents at sports day (result!) which will be only in bubbles, y6 play outside rather than in (how?! where?!) with 2 performances of 60 parents only, no siblings, don't come with your partner. Same for leavers' assembly. "Meet the teacher" event after school to have 30 chairs outside each classroom (how?! where?!) and teacher to allow in children to new class with 1 masked parent 10 at a time.

First bubble burst yesterday so this may change quickly.....

4 Sad

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/06/2021 10:00

Don’t worry Carrie, there’s several of us who seem to be doing the extra week. We’ll ask anyone posting about lie ins, fun days out etc, in our last week to include a TW in their first line.....

CarrieBlue · 25/06/2021 10:09

Revenge will be sweet in September Jan (unless you have an awful 5 week holiday? In which case I promise not to mention my September lie-ins!)

Appuskidu · 25/06/2021 11:46

I now have both my children self isolating again for ten days due to multiple cases in their (Y8 and sixth form) years at school. One of them only went back on Tuesday!
