You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Hobbers you've got another priority and that means looking after yourself and putting school further down the pecking order. Worry about it less, do only what you need to do to get through the next few months.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2021 22:25

Hope you have a good weekend that allows you to recharge, MrsHP

thecatfromjapan · 25/06/2021 22:29

Hello AttaGirl and congratulations name.

Year 3 are wonderful. And no tests!!!

thecatfromjapan · 25/06/2021 22:30

You're going to have such a great year. 🙂

DreamingofBrie · 25/06/2021 22:39

@HobnobbingAboutHobnobs

I need to have a bit of a pity party I'm afraid. Nausea, knackeredness and shitty class allocation for both year 10 and year 11 have combined with a result of me taking the last two days off. I am ridiculously anxious about doing my job. I was so excited to be going back in my own classroom, and now I don't want to go in at all. And I feel so sick, all the time. It was nowhere near this bad last time 😔
Poor HobNob, sounds rotten. Gherkins good for nausea!

Do look after yourself - I always think back to my first, when I was working in a factory. I didn't think how precious my bump was because I was so stressed about doing a good job, so spent lots of time doing stupid, physical, risky stuff. Didn't realise how pig headed I'd been until after she arrived.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/06/2021 22:45

Interestingly, as part of the conversations around child having to isolate, it's become obvious via WhatsApp and my partner, that if you're not in it all the time, you don't really know the deal.

Partner is saying 'test and release on day 5 though' and stuff like that. Erm, no.. that's for a totally different thing. Parents' WhatsApp is going on about where you can get PCR tests from.

thecatfromjapan · 25/06/2021 22:55

Poor Hobnob. 💐

I'm here for all your snog, marry, avoid needs.

Gove, Hancock, Rees-Mogg?

If you listen to Dead Ringers you’ll hear a version of Love Island featuring Rees Mogh, and then Gove Grin
JanFebAnyMonth · 25/06/2021 23:03

Sorry to hear that rule and hob. No most people know far less about the rules than us.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/06/2021 23:12

"Can I do LFT every morning and go out for a bike ride with her?"

No. Apparently this is all total bullshit and he's going to do it anyway.

Confused

Might be easier for him to get his head around if we weren't (for these exact 10 days), living in one room of our house, and due to have no hot water mid week for 2 days.

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/06/2021 23:31

Oh s* rule......

🍷 and 🍫 and 🌹(red things are important in such a situation, it seems)

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/06/2021 23:32

Oh blinking MN! That was supposed to say be s**t

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/06/2021 23:33

Tbh under those conditions I think I’d consider the LFT bike idea, for all of your sanities. How old is DD?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/06/2021 23:52

I would too as long as you could guarantee it would be in isolated areas where you are unlikely to bump into people.

Fair number of school age kids on buses here during the day and hanging around in groups in town. I was going to post the other day saying parents weren't too bothered about school attendance here as there seem to be a lot off school (not necessarily unusual this time of year). Now wondering if they are supposed to be self-isolating.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/06/2021 00:13

6 and a half. We can get into the middle of nowhere quite easily walking and I think they are allowed in the car for trips out (to do things like drop other kids off at school), if they don't leave the car. So I suppose she could be driven to the middle of nowhere for a walk or ride too.

I guess I'll be leaving work every day at 2.45 just to give him a chance to work.

Mistressiggi · 26/06/2021 00:33

Only another couple of days for ds's isolation to finish. I think his body will be permanently stuck in the shape of his gaming chair by then

cornercupboard · 26/06/2021 06:10

I'm going to be a Y3 teacher

Another fan of year 3! They still love you, but are starting to turn into horrors, so by the end of the year they can be quite different, proper juniors who won't acknowledge you in Asda, but to start with they are the best.

Congrats name!

Appuskidu · 26/06/2021 07:29

I quite like Y3 as well, actually! Not as much as Y1/R though Grin.

Hooray for the weekend-have a good one, everyone :)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/06/2021 08:09

R is the best year. Then 2 or 3.

There’s a video of the Hancock kiss doing the rounds on Twitter. I can’t unsee it.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 26/06/2021 08:14

I love y3 too. A great year group.

Got the on edge waiting for bubbles to go feeling here. Cases are shooting up in the area. Hearing of cases and bubble closures all around. Feels.like it is just a matter of time.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/06/2021 08:16

U4T now having a hissy fit over school closures and isolation.

Who would have guessed that if you campaign to remove the most effective non-pharma intervention we have in schools and against vaccinating children that covid would have a party in schools 🤦‍♀️

It’s scary how much influence they have with certain politicians. Is there a single brain cell between any of them?!

This is worth reading all of - herd immunity still a govt aim, and guess which age group that involves!

motherrunner · 26/06/2021 08:34

Why do the Gov think so lowly of our children and young adults?

I’m glad my LEA still kept masks and require PCRs for all absences but what we really need - smaller classes and more ventilation - will never happen.

Erm when you say “allowed” - technically they aren’t, but people do it and apparently some schools have advised it (see numerous MN threads!)

But that doesn’t mean to say that in your situation, you shouldn’t
