You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread.

Surge testing day 2. Just as chaotic as day 1. Year 8 were doing theirs at lunchtime, but were only applicated half an hour for each group, which isn't long enough. Half the kids don't know their own addresses, so entering their own data becomes much more problematic, and we only had one copy of their addresses and parents phone numbers to help them. The group I was helping with were in the second half of lunchtime and ended up being 20 minutes late for p4 (the first half group overran by 10 minutes, we overran by 10 minutes as well).

MrsHamlet · 24/06/2021 18:21

We had some issues with "street name".
"D-dawg" was not what was required.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 24/06/2021 18:59

HAHAHA

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 24/06/2021 19:04

Shit storm sort of sums up today nicely.

Might just get smashed at the Scottish end of term disco - congratulations to you!

Thanks for the new thread.

CallmeHendricks · 24/06/2021 19:10

Are those of us not in Scotland allowed to gate-crash the disco?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 24/06/2021 19:10

@eitak22

Found out where I am next year, not sure how i feel about it. Means following up current challenging cohort.

Do other people in primary know yet?

Yes. Staying where I am. Tricky incoming cohort, but gentler class than this year. Also full time strong LSA, which will be great.

My current class have lost the will to live. There are only 21, so have only had each other for a year... and they don't really get on. It's going to be a long 3 weeks.

GuyFawkesDay · 24/06/2021 19:21

Gosh another thread! Thanks @StaffRepFeistyClub

I'm so tired! This week has been massive admin, reports, field trip organisation and generally mad busy!!

MrsHamlet · 24/06/2021 19:22

This week is the gift that keeps on giving... please can it be the weekend now?

CallmeHendricks · 24/06/2021 19:26

My little chap with ASD had a bad start to the day because his 1:1 was apparently "talking too fast." Cue: meltdown, as class too noisy (making solid shapes with straws and blu-tack). His ear defenders had gone missing later found in HT's room.
Anyway, we talked him back off the cliff-edge and lived to tell another day.
Hey ho.

chocolateisavegetable · 24/06/2021 19:33

Thanks When Sadly there are another 4 weeks for us!

Piggywaspushed · 24/06/2021 19:34

Now you see why my school paid year 11s and my DS to input all the data, MrsAD...

WhenSheWasBad · 24/06/2021 19:45

Thanks When Sadly there are another 4 weeks for us

Gutted for you. I was trying to help, might have made it worse now. 😂

I somehow feel like I have less time now I have gained time. How is this possible?

DenbyChina · 24/06/2021 20:04

Another one with four weeks.

Beyond exhausted. Bloody low carb means I can’t even face plant into the chocolate given by year 11.

Frlrlrubert · 24/06/2021 20:54

Grin

Proper lol. I can just imagine some of mine giving their 'street name'.

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2021 20:56

@MrsHamlet I agree about this week. “D-Dawg” 🤣🤣🤣

MrsHamlet · 24/06/2021 21:01

The best thing about the street names thing is that we're not really very "street" 😂

DrMadelineMaxwell · 24/06/2021 21:01

@eitak22

Found out where I am next year, not sure how i feel about it. Means following up current challenging cohort.

Do other people in primary know yet?

I do. I'll be staying in year 6 til I retire as noone wants to work there and still have my eye on the next door classroom for Sept if the teacher there isn't coming back (it's v complicated but they have said they aren't and we are just wondering if it is as done and dusted as it should be).

My new lot seem nice enough. One asd lad who will need careful handling but no major behaviour issues from them. Only the downside that they arent a full 30 so there's scope for kids to join from elsewhere mid year.

Got the joys of the growing up talks next week! At least I'm not pregnant while giving the talk as I have been once or twice. So at least they wont look at me thinking 'I know what you've been doing...'

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/06/2021 21:04

Thanks staff.

😂😂@ D-Dawg.

You have my sympathies rule. I know you have lots of behaviour and SEN issues as as well but a primary class of kids that absolutely hate each other is the pits.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 24/06/2021 21:06

DrMM I hadn't even thought of that - I'm glad my tutor group didn't know when Brook came in the other week, or the questions I fielded afterwards might have been a whole other kettle of fish!

Howshouldibehave · 24/06/2021 21:10

I can’t believe there are still 3 weeks to go-our lot really have given up already. Behaviour is absolutely dire Confused.

noblegiraffe · 24/06/2021 21:10

Considering a name change to N-Dawg.

I know my groups for next year but not my timetable, which is the bit I always worry about. Finding out that you have 8 hours of trapped time just before you break up for the summer isn't great.

MrsHamlet · 24/06/2021 21:14

Our timetables are apparently problematic. I'm too scared to look but I need to know since I've got ECTs to think about, plus two subject which'll be taught by whoever is free, plus my timetable. I don't know whether to look tomorrow to cap off a shit week, or shit up next week.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/06/2021 21:47

Well done Dolly and Mistress.

An hour and forty minutes is now our standard after school detention it seems - totally ridiculous imo.

Ds swears he was just in the toilets and watched the other kids making them so I've asked them to look at the cctv again and see if he was actually just an onlooker. He usually says if he did do something so I'm inclined to believe him and an hour and forty for happening to be in the toilets at the same time is even more ridiculous.

I've been to the gym and worked the grump out of me for now.

Timeturnerplease · 24/06/2021 21:48

@eitak22 We were told last week. I’m thankfully following my current lot up, which means I stay in KS2 - though they will have a mat cover until I’m back at Easter.

There was talk of, if the Year 1 teacher leaves at Easter to go travelling as he wants to, me finishing off the year in there and my mat cover staying in 4. I very politely asked my headteacher to give me 21 days notice of this so I could then extend my mat leave to limit my time back with the little ones. She looked a bit shocked (I’m very biddable about everything except this) and very quickly backtracked!
