You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@EnemyOfEducationNo1 sorry to hear you're having an awful time. I don't know about sertraline but when I was on citalopram drinking just reduced effectiveness and made me have worse hangovers.

If you want a reducing drinking buddy, i'm up for it. My consumption has been shocking the past 6 months.

JanFebAnyMonth · 27/02/2021 11:14

Oh wow appu, that guidance says from first of March not only our households/bubbles can get twice weekly tests, also students' households/bubbles!

This is huge: why wasn't it announced?

Because it implies increased risk in schools, or to schools? Not sure.

Quite complicated to explain how you get tests etc. too.

starrynight19 · 27/02/2021 11:16

@twinkletoesimnot

Morning. High school people can you help please?

I have 2 dc at high school. I didn't sign consent forms for their testing before as I disagreed with the not isolating close contacts. School then closed, so I left it.
Seen a thread on here and it jogged me into checking the wording of the form as it's on my to do list. It IS still on there.
I thought this had been dropped? What's happening at your schools?

I emailed both my dd schools and they both said it shouldn’t have been on the paperwork and they won’t be doing it. Probably worth checking with your school.
EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 27/02/2021 11:24

Thanks everyone.
And yes please Phleb Flowers

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/02/2021 11:27

enemy Flowers it sounds like you've got a huge amount on your plate right now. Like everyone else has said, please do take some time off if it would help.

Monkey I'm glad your boy is having his jab.

Rule, great that you've had your jab too. I like the sound of shouting and hooting while waiting for the jab. It sounds very tempting to join in with that.

phlebasconsidered · 27/02/2021 11:40

Pm me enemy and we can work out a way to do it so we can chat and help each other. I have to reduce mine- i would say i'm a functioning alcoholic at this point.

Pleased for those of you who have either had the jab or seen their loved ones have it. Gin

We did advertise for testers but only recruited 3.

That's worrying. Our job ad went out after the announcement on Monday when it was clear that the 3 tests instead of 2 meant our Jan plans were totally inadequate in terms of capacity. No idea if they've recruited, I assume the timetable will slip if not, or pressure will be put on Kevin's mum to step up.

eitak22 · 27/02/2021 12:07

Went to do my home LFT to find the kit was missing the solution you need to actually do the test..... helpfulHmm

I've hit resigned to my fate especially after the news about vaccines. At this rate jm going to get it so its about when not if. Obviously I'm going to be careful but when the world opens up I'll be going out more than I did last summer.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 27/02/2021 12:21

Take care @EnemyOfEducationNo1

Don’t tell me I’m behind.
Don’t tell me I’ll be held back for ever.
Don’t tell me I need longer at school.
Don’t tell me I’m lost.

Tell me I can do it.
Tell me you’ll help me.
Tell me you believe in me.
Tell me we’ll do it together.

Yours sincerely,

That's lovely staff

piggywaspushed · 27/02/2021 12:36

Accidental excitement : went to optician to get evidence that eyes are wrecked by screentime.

Saw Captain Tom's cortege.

Whole village out . Very lovely.

ChloeDecker · 27/02/2021 12:36

That’s lovely Staff.

I really don’t think that those constantly saying/writing how much children have been ‘damaged’, actually realise that they are contributing to language that is actually making things worse.

If you constantly hear and read how much you are behind, mentally damaged and there’s no hope, you might actually start to believe it.

We need to focus on more positive language for their sake.

noblegiraffe · 27/02/2021 12:39

staff just posted on another thread about Wilshaw, Williamson and Harries sending school staff morale through the floor.

And my initial response was 'shag, marry, kill?'.

noblegiraffe · 27/02/2021 12:42

Saw Captain Tom's cortege.

:(

Whole village out . Very lovely.

Don't post that anywhere else, it'll only set people off.

piggywaspushed · 27/02/2021 12:43

Indeed I won't...

hedgehogger1 · 27/02/2021 12:50

@noblegiraffe

We're expected to take students from our classes and maintain order while queueing (class photo style) but we have been told we won't be involved in the administration of tests.

My school put a job advert out for testers.

Is that the first test? I thought they were meant to be socially distant and not really on site til they'd had their first test. Apparently we're doing 2 year groups a day so 600 kids. Dunno how long that'll take! Not getting too carried away with my planning!
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 27/02/2021 12:51

But what about all the armies of volunteers that MN said were going to help in school back last March? You'd think they'd be banging the doors down to help out. It'll be very disappointing if MN turns out to be wrong.

Sorry so many of you are struggling at the moment. It is shit.

noblegiraffe · 27/02/2021 12:57

Not taking them from class if it's the first test, hedgehog, but if we were meant to be teaching them on their first test day, we have to go to the testing hall and supervise getting them in and out for that period on the timetable.

If it's 2nd and 3rd tests it'll be escorting them down as well.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/02/2021 13:00

Whole village out

I think that will become a permanent thing for funerals. For ordinaries, too - happening in my village and in my parents' village.

@Monkeytennis97 - good news!

Loshad · 27/02/2021 13:25

Really good news about your boy getting the vaccine @Monkeytennis97

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 27/02/2021 13:32

We still have no plan. I hope this means everything remote this week and then phased return after testing. I'm not planning more than a couple of days ahead at the moment.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 27/02/2021 13:33

Great vaccine news everyone too Smile

Monkeytennis97 · 27/02/2021 13:48

🎉🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️

He's home. Had it done and was very good apparently. Saw some other LD people as we drove to his home walking in the direction of the Drs - must be their day today, and what a beautiful day it is😊

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/02/2021 13:50

Great news @RuleWithAWoodenFoot re your vax.

That guidance is MASSIVE if true @Appuskidu (I mean it is true obvs but as in if it happens 🤣). Anyone else think they’ve got a shed load of tests and this is the easiest way to use them up whilst pretending they give a shit about schools and communities? I mean maybe it will pick up earlier some people so 🤷‍♀️

WhenSheWasBad · 27/02/2021 13:50

He’s home. Flowers that’s wonderful news.

So pleased monkey
