You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@EnemyOfEducationNo1 💐 Definitely take time off if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/02/2021 10:33

I keep alternating between rage and stress/panic.

Yep, that's where I am too. Me and partner just leapt around the room air drumming and shouting to Rage Against the Machine... it helps.

motherrunner · 27/02/2021 10:35

Prof Mark Walpot: The rollout is going in such an efficient way by doing it through the age groups. Of course, there will be many teachers, many police, who are in the 40-50 age group and indeed who will have been immunised already."

NO WE HAVEN’T!

DreamingofBrie · 27/02/2021 10:37

Hello everyone.
Not quite sure where I am at the moment. Feeling a bit numb to the return to school - glad that we know what's happening, rather than the awful, endless speculation the weekend before, but also rather resigned to the prospect of rising cases and the potential for a summer lockdown.

I had a really really late Thursday night (4 lots of marking), and a 5 period day on Friday. By P5 I felt delirious with the lack of sleep... talking super quickly, verging on gibbering Hmm. Today just watching the celebrity home cook final with dd and buying books for the dc online.

Can't bring myself to think about Monday, another 5-period day at the moment - it's gorgeous outside so going to take the dc out for a long walk.

Hope everyone is ok x

HarrietDVane · 27/02/2021 10:44

@EnemyOfEducationNo1 - echoing other posters, I think you should definitely take time out if you need it.

I'm glad you've had your jab @RuleWithAWoodenFoot - hope you're feeling ok?

I am so tired and lacking in motivation today. Once again my house looks like a bomb site and the laundry basket is overflowing. My laptop is guilt-tripping me from the corner as I have plenty of work to do, and yet I am welded to the sofa unable to focus on anything.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 27/02/2021 10:45

Only 1/3 of the children at the secondary closest to my school have consent for LFT.

ChloeDecker · 27/02/2021 10:54

@SquashedFlyBiscuits

Made worse by the terrible reporting and stupidity by MPs this week that actively encouraged parents not to give consent Angry

Is anyone else having to test here? We’re not face to face or remote teaching the week of the 8th as we’ll all be needed to be part of the testing process. Hope I’m on some admin role, don’t want to be part of the mixing chemicals or swab role.

No we are expected to teach that week it's other staff involved in the testing.

I loved behind her eyes until episode 5 then I got disappointed.

MrsHamlet · 27/02/2021 11:02

Our head was very clear that teaching staff are not expected to be involved at all because we will be teaching.
Another local school has decided to get teachers testing to get students in more quickly.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 27/02/2021 11:03

How bad is drinking on sertraline anyway?
And how would I go about getting time off? I know that sounds stupid but it actually feels easier to carry on working

ChloeDecker · 27/02/2021 11:04

Yes me motherrunner
Going in Friday to test and pick up tests to take home (having to take my DD with me...) and be shown what we have to do from Monday when we are helping testing rollout.
Year 13s coming in afternoon to test ready for Monday.

No live lessons on that Friday but setting work.

From Monday, 13s in lessons and Year 11s testing then Tuesday Year 11s in lessons and so on.
Waiting on final number of consent forms for other year groups before knowing who comes in when, that week.

Work being set in Teams during that time.

noblegiraffe · 27/02/2021 11:04

We're expected to take students from our classes and maintain order while queueing (class photo style) but we have been told we won't be involved in the administration of tests.

My school put a job advert out for testers.

I drink and I’m on Sertraline. I don’t notice a change in my mood.
EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 27/02/2021 11:06

I've had an email about testing arrangements but I can't actually bring myself to read it yet. I just get too panicky

Sounds exactly what we’re doing.

@noblegiraffe We did advertise for testers but only recruited 3.

noblegiraffe · 27/02/2021 11:08

And how would I go about getting time off?

You can self-certificate for a week, just phone in sick. Or you could see your GP about getting signed off.

The problem with phoning in sick with teaching is the expectation you'll set cover work.

The homeschooling/work thing is shit and you have three kids. Do you think it will be better when they're back at school, in which case it's a week left to manage?

motherrunner · 27/02/2021 11:08

We’ve got a staff meeting Tuesday for us to be told our roles and pick up our tests.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 27/02/2021 11:08

Thanks motherunner

phlebasconsidered · 27/02/2021 11:09

My kids letters as to opening in secondary are clear as mud . Both are in on different days. It's not clear whether they have to stay off till all 3 tests are done or if they just stay in school after? It's complicated in that they have to take the school bus as well.

I'm just in all day from next Wednesday to "acclimatise" which is stupid since i've been in anyway with a bubble.

I am now getting very angsty about it. I'll go from a mixed 5/6 bubble of 25 to a 6 class of m 35, some of whom have been in my bubble, others not in at all, and others in another sodding mixed bubble. It's a nonsense.

And they are still only on 65 plus in my area!

Monkeytennis97 · 27/02/2021 11:10

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot my boy is having his now with his carers ❤️

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 27/02/2021 11:10

Thanks. And yes I will be expected to set cover - especially as I'm working from home!
Yes it will be easier once the kids are back - one more week!

motherrunner · 27/02/2021 11:11

@Monkeytennis97 What wonderful news!

MrsHamlet · 27/02/2021 11:12

If you're signed off, enemy they can't ask you to set work. Or at least they can ask but you don't have to.
