You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

That sucks KoG Sad

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 26/02/2021 19:35

KoG Chimes with my anecdote. SEN staff at school half a mile away all offered vaccine. SEN staff 2 miles away (different LA) not offered. When first group went to vaccine centre, one got abuse from the staff and other people for being too young. He's a little eccentric looking and think people assumed he was chancing it.

Piggy sorry about your job. Glad you wasted their time though.

Hugs Angelina. It's so shit.

Honey when can we fo to your gaff for a party in Egypt?

MrsHamlet · 26/02/2021 20:03

I so need a party at Honey's

CallmeAngelina · 26/02/2021 20:25

I just fail to see HOW they can possibly argue that teachers, in confined spaces with 30 other humans for hours at a time, can possibly be considered to be "no more at risk" than any other "people who go to work."
We're the same risk as a gardener, working alone and outside? Or a delivery driver, who is alone in a van and stays at a distance as they deposit a parcel at the front door? Or a GP, who mainly treats patients down a phone line, and if it's f2f, they're masked up within an inch of their lives.
Makes me fucking furious.

Absolutely insane to anyone with half a brain. The studies were done on the old variant so therefore must be fact! Clearly!
chocolateisavegetable · 26/02/2021 20:50

Gah - I just posted this on the wrong thread! ...

Re vaccinating school staff - one of our local vaccination centres is offering a "walk-in" service at certain times - you just turn up with evidence of age / carer's allowance or CEV and they will give you a vaccination. It would be easy to extend this to include school staff, police etc with a badge. All the government needs to do is to say "it's too difficult to arrange invitations for certain occupations, but you can take your ID to a walk-in centre." Job done.

chocolateisavegetable · 26/02/2021 20:53

If MNHQ are watching - thank you for deleting my post so quickly on the wrong thread! I'm not in the mood for getting beaten up "out there" today.

MrsHamlet · 26/02/2021 21:10

noble hats off to you for your commitment to explaining stuff to people. You're amazing.

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 21:14

Can't find on other thread. Has anyone got the link to the teacher infection ons data?

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 21:32

I think Noble's main method of being unidentifiable off mn is that she's actually not a maths teacher but (sshhhh) an English teacher.

(I have never met anyone with such persistent clarity of meaning and expression.)

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 21:35

Interesting theory random. I agree.

Myusername2015 · 26/02/2021 21:46

Hi fellow teachers. I sadly contracted a serious lung disorder in sept and have taken months to recover; we tried a phased return recently but the school said that was a failed phase return; as I wasn’t feeling able to return to full timetable in the 3 weeks max they alllow I had it obtain another fit note.
I will drop to half pay from next week..I am willing and able to work from home but am not allowed to (because of man power: ie another adult in physical classroom )
😐 I am also technically shielding again. To summarise a long story these are the options they have given me:
1:If my Doc says I am able to work but with adaptions (which they are definitely not keen on ) the school can decide to not let me back but then I’d only be paid half pay anyway.
2: If I move back to shielding due to a new certain combination of drugs even i was happy to teach from home for a few weeks they can say no as it’s “disruptive” so again half pay.

At this point I just want to throw the towel in; albeit it I know I’m out of resignation dates but think the head would be ok i I love the kids and the job (mainly)This illness has just flawed me

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 21:48

That sounds appalling @Myusername2015 ! Do you have a union?

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 21:50

Agree! That is not flexible at all. ThanksThanksThanks
rainingcats · 26/02/2021 22:00

@RandomGrammarPun

OMG. JVT hates teachers: "just concentrate on teaching..."

(re the suggestion that some primary schools have been asking for masks in the classroom...)

I took this as JVT saying it would be unreasonable to expect teachers to take responsibility for 30 5 year olds having to wear (and keep on) masks during the day and they should just be allowed to focus on teaching.

He did however frustrate me with his waffle about teachers being no more at risk - I wonder if he would be happy to spend a day in a classroom?

ChloeDecker · 26/02/2021 22:26

I’m so sorry to read of what you are going through Myusername2015
That sounds horrific for you and very sobering to read.
I sincerely hope that you get the support that you so clearly deserve.

ChloeDecker · 26/02/2021 22:31

This tweet was from a few days ago but again, it makes for an interesting discussion that it’s not actually that hard to vaccinate the police and teachers before people working from home/not working.

Oh Harry Hill on last leg. Tongue i cheek.

' you know when you are a bit naughty at school and teacher says right you back if the queue. Now you know how it feels guys!'🙈

HarrietDVane · 26/02/2021 22:37

I'm sorry to hear of your experience @Myusername2015 - are you a member of a union? I would recommend calling them for advice.

@Myusername2015 definitely a union matter.

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 22:49

I really didn't. The tone of voice, the expression and what he'd preceded it with very much made that read to me as "you focus on what you're good at, and leave the science to the big boys"... But I may be wrong.
