You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

One of DS’s Maths teachers is like a catalogue model. Not my type, but soooooo chiseled and buffed Shock. He was also a leading professional sportsman in his (niche, outing) area before he retrained. He doesn’t even take PE lessons, just Maths.
DS’s reply to my mentioning it after Parents Evening:
I think that’s the grossest thing you have ever said, please let us never speak of it again
then
What even IS a catalogue?

Welcome back, motherrunner. Tough times mentally, don’t blame you for taking a break.

@OpheliasCrayon MH runs in my family I think. My mum has MS, her condition is so advanced she’s almost in a vegative state but looking back I can also see she was bipolar (not heard of in the 70s). I’m very lucky that my DH sees past the episodes and convinced me medication wasn’t a weakness.

@Monkeytennis97 I’m so happy for you! I still can’t believe it’s been over 12 months since I’ve last spoken to my mum. You and your DH are amazing parents.

I’m not sure I’ll be a prolific poster moving on, as I know SM is a trigger, but can I say I take great solace in this comforting thread, so @Staffdontblowitnow please don’t stop.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/02/2021 15:38

I'm aiming for another stock answer. Although I'm mostly avoiding Twitter and other boards on here.

It's ok to want schools to go back for all kids, and also think that it probably isn't safe because it goes against all other restriction guidance.

Monkeytennis97 · 14/02/2021 15:40

@motherrunner ThanksThanks

OpheliasCrayon · 14/02/2021 15:42

@motherrunner definitely not a weakness. No way. I wouldn't be here without.

Staffdontblowitnow · 14/02/2021 15:46

@motherrunner kind words, we are all here to support each other in the republic.

No bugger is taking our chairs as I will be fixing them firmly to the floor.

We need to batten down the hatches as we are in for a crazy few weeks with BoJo plan around 22 Feb and decisions being made about exam guidance /CAG/whatever.

Don't fix them too close to the tables now though love? That's where things get dangerous.

I see you're suggesting that BoJo is going to give us a plan on the 22nd. I feel like you're rather optimistic there - what he is going to do is he is going to tell us he HAS a plan but in reality he's doing to tell us on the 7th ... That everything is open on the 8th but then on the 9th will then ever so slightly move all the goal posts so everything that we've desperately shoved together on the night of the 7th (whilst desperately reshuffling our chairs) ...is just...not quite right and we have to do it all again. Now. Thanks. Because fuck you teachers.

£3.14 a book Ophelia, pretty good I say (as a librarian!) and you can pass them down so that's extra value.

That's true ! I have two girls as well. Not that things should be gender specific of course but considering all of those have female characters... So yes they will all be read twice

So according to that other thread, we're all in noble's gang.
You know, like we're her bitches.

I love that. I was never in the ‘cool’ kid club at school. Maybe in the fat loser club.

I’ve filtered this by brown level as that’s where Dirty Bertie is, but you can change that. I’d guess anything between white and lime would be ok and they do have a set aimed at super confident ks1 readers which should mean the content is more suitable.

www.thereaderteacher.com/bookmatch

This might also help if there’s anything she’s enjoyed previously on there. They also have books by year group. They aren’t levelled by reading ability but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with reading stuff a bit easy for her if she reads a lot.

Marge in charge, wigglesbotyom primary and the longer Winnie & Wilbur books tend to go down well.

This probably won’t do much for your bank balance though.

Thank you! I've been in hospital for nearly 3 weeks and I neither eat nor drink lol... I have some spare cash lol

I like being in Noble's gang!

Just tell them all that we are union activists and those threads will go into meltdown with shouts of 'I told you so' and much finger-pointing. We can sit back, have a cup of tea and just watch them go

Piggywaspushed · 14/02/2021 16:20

Having bled the rads yesterday, and ascertained the journey times by train to almost everywhere in the UK with a university, am now settling down to pen a new novel. I shall call it The Daffodil Gang.

It will be like Mallory Towers , but with Union activism , which the authorities will try to stamp out. The gang will meet in secret with occasional forays into the wider world , led heroically by Nobletta.

OpheliasCrayon · 14/02/2021 16:20

I'll be in a gang, why not. Not like I've got anything else to do either currentlyGrin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/02/2021 16:25

No problem Ophelia. And it’ll give you some ideas for when she’s finished the lot you are about to buy anyway.

Flowers mother and Jan. Hope things get better for you both soon.

I’ not sure Boris has quite made the link between opening stuff up, cases rising, might have to shut schools again. He seems to struggle with the whole concept of actions and consequences.

Piggywaspushed · 14/02/2021 16:25

Just tickled by this in A Fine Balance (I may plagiarise with slight alterations for my now series of novels)

The fearfully anticipated strike was also averted, which Mrs Gupta celebrated as a triumph of good over evil. 'It's a case of our goondas versus their goondas. They deal with the Union crooks before they can start trouble or lead the poor workers astray. Mind you, even the nurses and CAMHS police support us. Everybody is fed up with the nuisance of the Unions.'

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/02/2021 16:34

Piggy meant to say re:CV not sure about other conditions but the asthma stuff seems to be a mess. Very much like the shielding vs CV stuff at the beginning nobody can work out who’s in group 6 or not.

Struggle is putting it kindly.

rafa, DH has a heart condition. His GP took him off the flu jab list without telling him. I don't, therefore, have high hopes for the covid vaccine.
