You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Crawling in from a 2 day migraine.... Have I missed much?

BigBobBoots · 17/02/2021 23:09

I really can't get my head around reopening entire primary schools from one day to the next.
I'm primary, and I just can't see how we can avoid huge behaviour issues if the entire class just rolls up on a Monday morning having had almost 3 months out (bubble burst before Xmas).
Would be so much smoother to acclimatise them in small groups then bring them back together after Easter.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/02/2021 23:19

Oh the behaviour is going to be awful.

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2021 23:50

That sounds shit, Enemy

Were you here for Chris Hemsworth?

It's going to be tough to get them back into the swing of it. September was hard going - not academically so much as in terms of social and emotional development. I think we're in for a rocky time of it while they re-learn expectations for classroom and playground behaviour.

I would also put money on my SLT expecting them all to meet their academic targets as if nothing had happened.

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 00:07

They won’t have been away for nearly as long as last time (assuming March 8th) which should be easier. Plus we’ll be going back to kids and classes we know and have already trained unlike September. Routines will fall into place much more quickly.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/02/2021 00:30

I'm not impressed with the utter lack of mitigations yet again, but have realised I'm delighted personally if we're all (ie me plus DC) back in less than three weeks. (But that is probably influenced by the fact that my horrid stressful situation will be a bit easier if school is reopening soon.)

Ah, of course, that's the reason for the social media campaign: because they're not doing anything different from Nov-December apart from some rubbish tests. Keep hearing about LAMP tests which are 95% accurate and just need saliva - why aren't we using those, anyone know?

Night night 🌒

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/02/2021 00:31

Cost i expect. LFTs are just being used up after the Moonshot nonstarter.

But before I go:

Blimey, we've filled up yet another thread - during half term, too. I thought it would be dead on here for the week.
Mind you, we have been chatting about other stuff quite a lot.
Is it worth turning the heating on in the broom cupboard tonight, or wait until morning?

HarrietDVane · 18/02/2021 00:37

You're right, Noble - that should make a difference, plus I've had nearly half of mine in most of the time. The ones I have in are quite immature/attention seeking, which has been easier to manage with the smaller group size, so it will be interesting to see how the dynamic shifts when they come back. I've had a new starter as well who could be quite a 'personality' if given a bigger audience!

If they do all come back at once, at least the horror of remote learning will be over - until the bubble goes/someone needs to isolate!

StaffRepFeistyClub · 18/02/2021 01:43

@Cantaloupeisland

Also from the Guardian-

'The DfE is also planning a PR campaign to “build parents’ confidence in school safety” starting from 27 February, which will run for two weeks as pupils and their families prepare for wider reopening.'

Fucking hell, looking forward to that Hmm

I think the DfE has turned into a media agency.

I also wander how many of the got £1000 Christmas bonus

StaffRepFeistyClub · 18/02/2021 01:45

All back at secondary - so much for it being the last lockdown

WhenSheWasBad · 18/02/2021 10:13

A campaign to build confidence? Like that’s going to stop the spread of Covid.

Reopen schools - children unvaccinated, most parents unvaccinated and most teachers unvaccinated. How is that not going to cause Covid to spread?

Why not just wait and extra 3 weeks? Wait till after Easter when the numbers might actually be low enough to reduce the spread.

Mistressiggi · 18/02/2021 10:22

Is this the actual plan that's going ahead - everyone in from the 8th? Shock
Or are they still kicking it around?

FrippEnos · 18/02/2021 11:03

Kudos for their persistence in going for exactly the same plan

Beachhuts90 · 18/02/2021 13:06

Suspect it's Boris &co leaking this to the media to prepare us for that being announced on Monday.
Mistressiggi · 18/02/2021 21:31

Thanks Beachhuts. Thread seems very quiet, have you all buggered off somewhere?
Just logging off i am getting nowhere with the lesson I'm preparing. Would have been ready hours ago in school.

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2021 21:35
