You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@noblegiraffe

Well the one on the right is an interesting graph that shows we're screwed re-opening schools if R>0.7

And the one on the left is nice little pastel-coloured piles of sand of weirdly varying heights.

I can't even see it, let alone make sense of it. I'm very impressed at your abilities, noble.
JanFebAnyMonth · 17/02/2021 20:50

YesI wondered why the pastel volcanoes....

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/02/2021 20:52

Thanks, so you don't have any greater insight than me...

Also nicked from Data, apparently from the Grauniad:

"Amid speculation about when and how schools would reopen to all pupils, it emerged that masks will be compulsory outside classroom bubbles in secondary schools where social distancing is not possible. Previously it has been left to the discretion of head teachers.

The government is also pinning its hopes on managing outbreaks of the virus at schools with mass use of repeat lateral flow tests, with the first three tests for pupils conducted in school when they return after lockdown, before switching to home tests."

Wonderful.....

Cantaloupeisland · 17/02/2021 21:11

Also from the Guardian-

'The DfE is also planning a PR campaign to “build parents’ confidence in school safety” starting from 27 February, which will run for two weeks as pupils and their families prepare for wider reopening.'

Fucking hell, looking forward to that Hmm

OpheliasCrayon · 17/02/2021 21:13

I've looked. They are indeed little pastels

Piggywaspushed · 17/02/2021 21:15

That sounds like what they did in August. It amounts to just repeating that schools are safe. And annoying onslaughts on facebook.

Piggywaspushed · 17/02/2021 21:17

Well the mass use of LFTs suggests secondaries will be back...

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/02/2021 21:19

Wonder if Molly and co are preparing the media campaign as we speak......

We're going to all be AngryAngryAngry aren't we?

Seriously, I despair.

If it needs a media campaign it's not safe. And to be fair, I'd have thought there's more parents desperate to send their kids to school now than there was in Sept - maybe? Ergo no need for a media campaign.

Grrrrrrr

borntobequiet · 17/02/2021 21:25

Classroom fucking bubbles. What tosh.

Cantaloupeisland · 17/02/2021 21:26

Apparently No.10 want everyone back in a 'big bang' whereas others are saying that having millions return on the same day really isn't a great idea!

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/02/2021 21:26

They've learnt not a thing.

Cantaloupeisland · 17/02/2021 21:28

Laughable the idea there are class bubbles in secondary. I don't know any secondaries that haven't been wearing masks in communal areas anyway so it's hardly game changing!

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/02/2021 21:29

Is there a secondary safeguarding bod on here I could PM with a question please? Thanks

MrsHamlet · 17/02/2021 21:30

We really are surrounded by morons, aren't we?!

lonelyplanet · 17/02/2021 21:32

This twitter thread is interesting on the coloured piles of sand.

HSHorror · 17/02/2021 21:54

I did read in DM that it may go in ethnicity next.

I also saw people saying group 6 cant go to mass centres as they are decided by gps

Piggywaspushed · 17/02/2021 22:03

Apparently only 1 parent in 10 said their child returning to school was their top priority. DH read this out to me today so not sure of source. Probably Grauniad.

MrsHamlet · 17/02/2021 22:07

Bob in year 11 returning means I need pubs to be open. For sure.

DT Shock

"According to the Telegraph
here-
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/02/17/exclusive-parents-test-children-covid-twice-week<a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/02/17/exclusive-parents-test-children-covid-twice-week/" target="_blank">/

Parents will be asked to test their children twice a week under plans for a phased return to the classroom, The Telegraph can disclose.

Families of secondary school pupils will be asked to administer lateral flow tests at home during term time under plans being drawn up by the Government.

Schools will only oversee the mass testing of secondary students once, at the start of term, after education unions struck a deal with ministers, it is understood.

All schools in England are expected to open on March 8, but secondary schools will be allowed to stagger the return of some year groups so every pupil can be tested on arrival. Large secondary schools may take up to two weeks to get all pupils back to the classroom, education sources said."

Think that should read, "education unions pointed out a few realities to ministers, eg lack of capacity to test all pupils twice a week".

MrsHamlet · 17/02/2021 22:44

🤦🏼‍♀️

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/02/2021 22:49

Ffs. I've done a load of oracy and vocabulary cpd over the last 2 days. Decided to plan my science for the term today, incorporating some of the things I want to try out. Took me 4 hours to do the learning journey and one lesson. Really not going to be arsed to do the same for the other 5 lessons.

Meanwhile, ill partner hacking his guts up all day and now snoring like a tank (its bad and annoying through the floor). We don't have a spare room because its got my desk in it. Wondering whether just to sleep at my desk.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/02/2021 22:49

Oh, and that plan is bonkers. So presumably what will happen.

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2021 22:53
