You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Won't you think of the children
OpheliasCrayon · 14/02/2021 12:12

@Tailrunner

I'm sure you have plenty of book ideas now but my dds liked Malorie Blackman's Betsy Bigalow and Girl Wonder books, the Claude series by Alex Smith, Agatha Parrot series and the Ottoline books. They are too old for your dd now but DD2 has just started reading the kingdom of silk books which are lovely.
Oh no I'm literally looking up everything!!
noblegiraffe · 14/02/2021 12:12

The children are upstairs playing Among Us. So I'm also neglecting their education and encouraging frivolous screen time.

@OpheliasCrayon if the chronicles of Narnia aren't on your list, I loved them at that age. I also wonder if she would like D'Aulaires Greek Myths, which are beautifully illustrated.

DreamingofBrie · 14/02/2021 12:16

What do you crochet? I love crochet. Not feeling well enough to do it at the moment but usually I'm a crochet fiend

Hi Ophelia, I hope you're feeling better soon Flowers.

I'm often time-poor, so I tend to just stick to squares for Woolly Hugs. There are 4 blanket projects on the go at the moment, so I've done a couple of squares each for them.

Been working on a blanket for dd for months now, just 10-round granny squares in colours of her choice. Think I'll need about 80 squares to make it nice and wrap-inable, but dreading stitching them all together!

Also do pet blankets for the local rescue, where we adopted our lovely cat. All animals get to choose a blanket to go to their new homes Smile.

Well you have got as far as sitting at a chair at a table so, I wouldn't put it past you to start a thread as well with that laissez faire attitude!

Solid post as ever my dear though, I will be watching the responses with interest ... I don't feel well enough today to do anything other than browse books so I won't be weighing in lol

DreamingofBrie · 14/02/2021 12:17

Also loving hearing about all of the crofters in the staffroom!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 14/02/2021 12:17

Talking of frivolous screen time I've got sucked into a game my eldest was playing - monument valley - absolutely love it!

We've made pastry and then an apple pie this morning. The 4 year old needed a change of clothes and a shower afterwards. I bet that bit is never on bloody Pinterest

DreamingofBrie · 14/02/2021 12:18

Crafters, damn autocorrect.

MrsHamlet · 14/02/2021 12:18

Come back saucery... I brought magic tape and a can do attitude so we're safe as houses in here.

Mistressiggi · 14/02/2021 12:21

I have completely missed all the chair news! We can't have chairs now? Nothing beats for me the UFT accusation that we were lolling around having affairs.

Ah amazing I had a preemie and we had TONS of blankets to choose from in the NICU they were lush! And hats. And cardis!

I crochet blankets for the bereavement midwife. Preemies twin was stillborn so since then I've been making blankets for other babies taken too soon.

I have stopped recently though, I go though phases. When I make them I think a lot about my son and the babies that the blankets would go to so it gets quite emotionally draining. So then I stop and make things for my daughter's or friends babies. When I get home I have one to finish joining together for a friend's new baby in April, and then I am going to start two decorative ones with very fine cotton to use as decoration in the bereavement suite.

Blimey-DH’s cousin is an LA Ed Psych and just found out he had the vaccine on Friday! He hasn’t set foot in a school since mid-March last year but because he works with children with SEN, is entitled.

The Tories really do just hate teachers, don’t they?!

Off for a very cold walk to try to shake off some of this very pent-up anger. Maybe I should take up crochet!

Saucery · 14/02/2021 12:24

I do wonder how long it will take me to kick the habit of a quick head count before I settle down with my lunch Hmm
I’ve been so strict because there is no way anyone was going to blame my behaviour for catching Covid. Or potentially worse for me, give my name to Test And Trace, condemning me to 10 days of sheer boredom and stress.
If that means I’m known as the weird woman who won’t eat home made cakes and has every single window open then so be it.

DreamingofBrie · 14/02/2021 12:25

I also wonder if she would like D'Aulaires Greek Myths, which are beautifully illustrated.

I bought The Usborne Book of Greek Myths for my dd at around the same age. I would read some stories to her then she progressed to reading them herself. She is now a teenager and still loves this.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 14/02/2021 12:26

Appuskidu DHs relative who works for social services but not a social worker, has WFH since March had the jab because she's in 'social care'. Pleased for her but pissed off at the seemingly random allocation. My kind head said the government needed to use broad categories to ensure that those who really needed to it do get it.

Saucery · 14/02/2021 12:27

That’s lovely, OpheliasCrayon! There was nothing available when DS was born prem so I do blankets and hats if I see an appeal anywhere.
I do the Angel Hugs for Woolly Hugs sometimes, but it’s quite affecting even to sit and knit them, so I do alternate them with the other blankets and squares etc.

Mistressiggi · 14/02/2021 12:31

I'm sorry for your loss, Ophelia. Making the blankets sounds like a lovely thing to do, though as you say must be emotionally draining.

DreamingofBrie · 14/02/2021 12:32

Oh Ophelia, your blankets will be so valuable and appreciated x
