You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Bonjour.

If it is all right, I have opened all the windows and am sitting slightly huffily in the corner.

Have hurt my shoulder : too much laptop use. Ouch.

Does anyone who is CV know if they are definitely in group 6? Other groups seem more clear cut as it is age or shielded. Group 6 seems a bit open to interpretation. After DH's flu jab fiasco I am not convinced he will get invited. The 'green book' specifies heart conditions 'including' with a list, so if one is outside the precise parameters of that list, I think it is down to GP surgeries' grasp of semantics..

Lots of folk on CV board talk as if one jab is full protections, which worries me.

@Saucery

That’s lovely, OpheliasCrayon! There was nothing available when DS was born prem so I do blankets and hats if I see an appeal anywhere. I do the Angel Hugs for Woolly Hugs sometimes, but it’s quite affecting even to sit and knit them, so I do alternate them with the other blankets and squares etc.
Yes this is why I don't always do them. I do very brightly coloured ones which people like apparently! I'm on a fb group for our hospitals bereavement dept so sometimes I see a baby wrapped in something I've made. I never comment, obviously and I'm never really quite sure what emotions I have when I see that

hobbii.co.uk/yarn/twirls
hobbii.co.uk/yarn/twister

I'm addicted to these at the moment and I've made some intricate and decorative things .. is fairly frustrating to work with because it's so fine but it does look beautiful.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 14/02/2021 12:46

It seems the bat signal has gone off again at U4T.

Saucery · 14/02/2021 12:47

Oooh, that removes the need for colour changes and sewing in ends!

Oh yes they are SERIOUSLY beautiful. I'll see if I can find a couple of pics of what I've made.

Only issue is I suppose is that they're in the EU. So I don't know how that works currently with brexit and taxes as I've not ordered this year. Their customer service is very very good though so you could ask I guess. Or just risk it.

GravityFalls · 14/02/2021 12:53

I really miss charity shop book shopping! I live in a non-naice town so we have lots of “5 for £1” boxes of kids books and that’s where I get most of mine. Buying them new is eye-watering! I did just invest in Truckers and Stig of the Dump for bedtime stories. I’m so pleased both DC are of an age to appreciate a proper chapter-a-night story book. We’ve had Tom’s Midnight Garden, the Demon Headmaster, Millions, Holes, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and all sort of books that are actually fun to read and don’t make me want to poke my eyes out (I’m looking at you, Horrid Henry). Plus DD is so rewarding to read to. She’s the kid who gasps when there’s a twist, sees things coming just far enough ahead to feel smug when they transpire and is indignant when Things Go Wrong. DS is a smartarse who figures the whole story out two pages in and is unshockable.

Piggywaspushed · 14/02/2021 12:54

LOL herc, I was about to say U4T have got their klaxon back form the repair shop.

DreamingofBrie · 14/02/2021 12:58

This thread has reminded me of the book "Harry's Mad" by Dick King-Smith. One of my absolute favourites as a girl and I still love reading it as an adult.

Cantaloupeisland · 14/02/2021 12:59

A sniff of a schools thread and it's like 'US4US TWATS UNITE!' Grin

OpheliasCrayon · 14/02/2021 13:03

Considering most of the people over there have, or have had kids in school I find it absolutely baffling that they have absolutely no idea why working in a school would be risky & that because they're definitely not risky we're all paranoid and anxious.

I don't understand what they don't understand! I've never taught mainstream in my life but I get it.
30 children (with absolutely no concept of personal space or basic hygiene) + however many relevant adults . In a small room. In a pandemic.
What is not to get?

You'd think they'd never even heard of a school let alone send their kids their daily.

WhenSheWasBad · 14/02/2021 13:16

The children are upstairs playing Among Us. So I'm also neglecting their education and encouraging frivolous screen time

Mine love Among Us too. Ds (he’s 7) was trying to tell his teacher about it on Friday. His dad and I were stood nearby mentally begging him to stop. Thankfully loads of his classmates play too. So we aren’t the only shit parents. Grin

RigaBalsam · 14/02/2021 13:21

Thanks Staff

flumposie · 14/02/2021 13:24

Happy half term. I'm so excited at the thought of not going upstairs to work this evening. That's a real treat for me on a Sunday Smile I wish I could crochet. Since I can't I like to do crystal art. Anyone can do that.

GravityFalls · 14/02/2021 13:30

I don’t let DS play Among Us or anything that involves playing with strangers. I’m probably stupidly over protective about this but he doesn’t have much common sense and I’m really paranoid about the whole online safety thing. He plays Minecraft with one vetted friend whose parents have the same approach as me and that’s all. He’s 9 so I know the pressure will be on soon...

Right now though both DC are so bored they’re forming a paranormal investigation society to investigate the 3 ghosts in DS’s bedroom (spoiler alert: there are no ghosts).

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/02/2021 13:32

Yyy to Daisy and books and Claude, oh definitely Claude, he's so louche!

My situation which arose on Friday night, has just got a bit worse. Shit. (There we are, said that).

MrsHamlet · 14/02/2021 13:34

Jan supportive hugs and biscuits

Staffdontblowitnow · 14/02/2021 13:36

The Sunday fruit-loops are all over the other boards. Name changes galore and some probably have more than on account!

Bloody newspapers!

We have 23,000 people in hospital and over 126,000 deaths - how bloody heartless they are.

All I want is for us to go back safely and not to have cases go up resulting in another lockdown

they take the perfect picture and then spend the rest of the day clearing up the utter shit show of a mess in their home when the activity lasted 30 seconds before it descended into warfare

post this in AIBU and MN will break.

Gin and Wine and Cake for all, well done for getting to half term.

sherrystrull · 14/02/2021 13:37

Hey everyone. Hope you're having a good day. We're considering getting the paint out in my house!

I have the power to break MN. I like it
HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 14/02/2021 13:40

jan Missed your Friday situation but I hope things improve soon.

My fbook feed is full of dickheads in my town who had a massive party. At least 4 of them are in health care and have been sending kids to school. I'm sitting HARD on my hands.

noblegiraffe · 14/02/2021 13:41

Oh no, Jan, it must be bad for you to swear :(

Really sorry to hear that. Flowers

Loshad · 14/02/2021 13:49

Hugs @OpheliasCrayon, you have had such a hard time of it. I do hope your gut gets a bit better soon.

This is what comes from sitting down on a chair. You’ll have to be more careful in future.
I intend to commemorate that thread by forever italicising sitting down on a chair from now on.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/02/2021 13:59

Yeah, good wishes to you Ophelia.

Thanks. I thought I couldn't get hold of the friend who used to be in a relevant profession, but have just managed to and am speaking to her later, which makes it all feel a little more manageable.

We do not know everything about the new variants, but what we do know should be enough to make us very wary of reopening anything!!! Apparently the Kent variant now accounts for 87% of cases in the UK.

Surely Boris doesn't want to risk another lockdown on his record??
