You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Keir by video isn't too powerful, or is it just me?

RigaBalsam · 27/01/2021 13:48

Isn't it a 5 week term too so there is only two weeks after that. It's going to be April isn't it?

Monkeytennis97 · 27/01/2021 13:50

Agree. Although Boris is pitiful
noblegiraffe · 27/01/2021 13:52

I’d like Y11 and 13 in before Easter to do overdue mocks. That should be doable even if not proper teaching. Mocks at home just isn’t going to work and after Easter is pushing it.

Monkeytennis97 · 27/01/2021 13:58

I think it will be 11 and 13 only before Easter in secondary...but, who knows

Me too, I've got mock results for year 11, but nothing positive for year 13. I do NOT want to have to decide CAGs with only the data we've already got. There would definitely be complaints about me being biased against their kids (the ones who "need" an A but are currently working at an E). I'm not even the main teacher, they get 3 lessons a week with the other teacher doing pure, with 2 lessons a week with me doing applied. So any CAGs would be 2/3 from him with a contribution from me.

They need as much notice for that as possible so they can revise properly seeing as these will be likely to contribute to their grades.

If we just had 2 yeargroups in, and spread them around classrooms to do mocks that would be doable in terms of SD and appropriate ventilation.

DH has his vaccine appointment - tomorrow! Whoop whoop!!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 27/01/2021 14:03

My dd2 bloody loves crafting and loves making puppet shows - she has a shoe box that she puts on one side and has a slot in the bottom side so she can poke lollipop stick cutout puppets through. Bluetacs a scene to the back, and away she goes.
It's one of her favourite things to do.
I have no idea how I ended up with this child - I absolutely hate crafting!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/01/2021 14:05

PM says, assuming that vaccination progress is maintained, the objective would be to begin school reopening from Monday 8th March.

Lewis Goodall.

I had 1st March, so not far off.

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/01/2021 14:11

Dd's birthday is 8th March. She would be horrified if she had to go back to school on her birthday having been at home for so long Shock. How likely are year 6 to be one of the first years back? Probably quite likely.

PumpkinPie2016 · 27/01/2021 14:17

I reckon (or hope!) It will be Y11/13 back from the 8th but who knows Hmm

Least I now know to make the next KS3 assessment a forms one.

TaxTheRatFarms · 27/01/2021 14:19

Ok. So for when/if we do go back in Marchtember, here’s some farming tech to keep us safe. Actually, it looks fantastic if it works! Can just imagine a klaxon going off in the headteacher’s office and them dashing through the corridors to evacuate the room Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/01/2021 14:20

I wouldn't take that as gospel. It's Johnson via the media. Oh, actually that might be what counts as gospel these days.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/01/2021 14:21

It will be Y11/13 back from the 8th

It'll be KS1 too I reckon.

JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 14:22

Apparently CO2 monitors work too, some have suggested the idea for a while. Maybe one of the things they're doing in Germany, can't remember.

We should remember in addition to it probably being certain year groups, it could well be only certain regions/tiers, Jenny Harries said this a few days ago.

I have one in my lab. It is constantly flashing.
JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 14:25

Oh and Keir said about vaccinating teachers but Boris said a big fat No to that.

JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 14:25

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/01/2021 14:44

He's said no to vaccines, but the vaccine thing would still fit in with 8th March if school staff got them in half term. Enough time to kick in. One still to keep an eye on I think. There seems to be a fair amount of calling for it from real world folk.

noblegiraffe · 27/01/2021 14:47

Can I send my dad to be vaccinated instead of me?

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/01/2021 14:54

@MrsHamlet my eyes have got really bad this week. I can no longer read text on a screen (phone or laptop). I have varifocals - don’t know whether to go back to opticians....

FlagsFiend · 27/01/2021 15:02

CO2 monitors are a pain under normal circumstances in my small lab. Pre-covid every post-16 lesson the alarm would go off, this cuts off the gas supply (which we weren't using) but also makes an annoying beeping noise. Ventilation wasn't the room's strong point!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/01/2021 15:03

My eyes are fucked since Xmas too. I only got new specs in November.
