You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Waiting for 5pm grand announcements / briefings. Exit plan? Vaccines?

Thanks staff!

Schools won’t be open to keyworkers/vulnerable over half term.

Was that even in the offing?

Thanks Staff

JanuaryChill · 26/01/2021 16:26

Thanks staff. Noble, no it wasn't!

Mistressiggi · 26/01/2021 16:26

Bonjour

chocolateisavegetable · 26/01/2021 16:27

I am somewhat freaking out at the suggestions that primaries could open straight after half term. We are about to start doing our LFTs - surely they'd at least wait and see how many asymptomatic members of staff test positive before making a decision?

Hello. Truly crap day. I'm on these horrible antibiotics and they've practically knocked me out. I can't even drive, I am so dreamy on them.

RigaBalsam · 26/01/2021 16:37

Did anyone see the Michael Rosen back lash trending on Twitter?

OnehorseopenBobsleigh · 26/01/2021 16:37

Me too chocolate. And if the 2 week's notice includes half term I'll be furious. After a sleepless Christmas break and this intense half term I would need a proper break before heading back into the fray.

Piggywaspushed · 26/01/2021 16:39

Don't get me started on the Edutwitter trads gunning for the beloved Rosen.

Sorry noble but if Tom Bennett doesn't withdraw his Tweet, I'll kick his head in.

Cantaloupeisland · 26/01/2021 16:40

Down to 20,000 cases today. Guarantee we'll be back in some form after half term!

Staffdontblowitnow · 26/01/2021 16:41

Not sure how schools would have managed that see as we on all working online or in school anyway.

Half term break should not be a surprise to anyone

Afternoon. I've spent all day in bed. Feeling guilty about it now!

Don't think I can bare to watch Boris at 5 so I'll wait to hear afterwards.

Staffdontblowitnow · 26/01/2021 16:43

I will join you @Piggywaspushed I have some steel-capped boots somewhere? Or how about stilettos? They could do some damage.

Hello. After last week thinking I may actually be able to do this teaching thing, today has been an utter shamblesSad

I'm not even entirely sure why. Children just weren't listening, were fidgeting, chatting one of our tricky ones was up wandering around and in the end had 3 members of staff with them. It was so distracting trying to teach with all that going on and I just felt like aaargh! So input was ropey to say the least. I must have looked a bit traumatised as my class teacher told me to not work tonight and just to have a gin!

I'll try again tomorrow but what if I can't do it after all?

Appuskidu · 26/01/2021 16:49

Do we really think they’ll have all primary years groups back at full capacity after half term.

If it’s back as normal for ALL primary, then they’ll be back with their ‘fines if you don’t send your child in’ and if they say it’s totally 100% safe and compulsory for primary children but not safe or compulsory for secondary children, I think that’s a sticky one.

Piggywaspushed · 26/01/2021 16:51

Staff, Tom B and I have Glasgow in common. He needs to be afraid. Might be more like a stiletto knife...

Feeling violent today!

eitak22 · 26/01/2021 16:51

I guess they had to confirm it as schools were open during Easter and May last year. Selfishly I am glad we get a week (even if it'll be spent prepping for next term/kids returning).

chocolateisavegetable · 26/01/2021 16:55

I hope the unions are going to fight if there is a plan to get us back straight after half term (assuming that there isn't a miracle that suddenly makes us all safe)

RigaBalsam · 26/01/2021 16:56

Has there been anymore info on the NEU announcement?

Do you want a detailed answer or are you having a teeny off-load? Either's fine - but if it's the former, starting a thread is best. Honestly, everyone has days like that. Irrespective of age, if they're Primary, go back to outlining expectations at start of day and even start of each period. And laugh about it. Because, honestly, it's quite funny - even if it feels like a huge judgment on your teaching. It isn't - they're just children being children.
noblegiraffe · 26/01/2021 17:00

Oh no, Tom Bennett v Michael Rosen might be what brings down our Republic!

Although on this point, Tom B is being a bit of a cock.

chocolateisavegetable · 26/01/2021 17:03

namechanged you are not alone. Be kind to yourself this evening. Ask for help from us if you need it - but do know that you are not alone.
