You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@RigaBalsam

Has there been anymore info on the NEU announcement?
Only to say they're making a "huge announcement" at 6pm! I do hope they're not bugging themselves up without substance!!
DreamingofBrie · 26/01/2021 17:09

namechanged, everyone has days like that. Your colleague was right, have gin and try not to think about it. The kids will have forgotten by the next time they see you Flowers.

I suspect it's just an offload and a nervous student wobble @thecatfromjapan

Monkeytennis97 · 26/01/2021 17:14

Here we go....

Piggywaspushed · 26/01/2021 17:16

Why did Boris just say 'exams are fair and properly adjusted'???

Boris, you cancelled them.

He's so so out of his depth
Monkeytennis97 · 26/01/2021 17:17

I'm just hoping he's given over to the scientists now.

Piggywaspushed · 26/01/2021 17:20

To come back to Rosen what is clear is that some more right leaning teachers just know his politics and are going for him.

What is also clear is they are showing their utter ignorance about who he is, what he has contributed to education and that he is highly highly educated. Adam Boxer just laughed (oh how hilarious crying laughing emojis) at a venomous tweet. It's actually really nasty.

I thought there were going to be exams but marked by teachers or have they not officially said what the plan is for y11/13?
Piggywaspushed · 26/01/2021 17:24

No, no outcomes of consultation yet eitak.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/01/2021 17:25

I block anyone on Twitter who uses a laugh crying emoji. Adam Boxer just thinks he's the dogs bollocks.

The Rosen thing was weird - it was worded badly. I get that he has been out of circulation for quite a lot of this whole thing with covid, but people like Frank Cottrell-Boyce have been doing what he was suggesting all along. So have lots of 'experts' on BBC Bitesize - celebrity supply teacher or whatever.

Anyway, I'm not sure why it really blew up so much today - it was yesterday's thing.

We've had our parent survey back, and as we totally knew, the kids are hating writing, loving all foundation subjects, and loving maths. Totally fits our demographic. I've been almost told off for suggesting we change our writing teaching by the English lead, but it's just too dry. Clearly we need some writing about science or geography or whatever.

I saw that on Fb earlier-is it genuine??

Piggywaspushed · 26/01/2021 17:28

Yes, it is!

I think someone made the point on Twitter that Marcus Rashford doesn't get savaged by dinnerladies when he points out that he could help out.

eitak22 · 26/01/2021 17:40

Freudian slip by Boris perhaps? Its ridiculous we don't know yet fot those students.
noblegiraffe · 26/01/2021 17:43

Funnily enough my kids have been enjoying listening to Michael Rosen's Ceebies poetry podcasts this last week and anyone suggesting that Michael Rosen couldn't teach kids anything has clearly never heard him perform.

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03vlzl8/episodes/player

I think some people really ought to have googled him before leaping in.

However, Tom B v Michael R goes way back before this. Trad v prog innit. Michael Rosen is a bit of a Ken Robinson.

Mistressiggi · 26/01/2021 17:44

Is Rashford criticising the dinner ladies though?

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 26/01/2021 17:51

.

Monkeytennis97 · 26/01/2021 17:59

Can't face the NEU meet tonight. Anxiety has ramped up this afternoon. DH and I are watching Only Connect on IPlayer instead- one of our favourites😊

starrynight19 · 26/01/2021 18:02

Still no sign of our lateral flow tests for staff in school yet Hmm

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 26/01/2021 18:03

Boxer has gone a bit far now. I quite like his opinions on knowledge organisers and other things that look fancy on twitter but are 90% shite. He's got a bit cocky lately.

Rosen, uncharacteristically, didn't make his point very well.

SansaSnark · 26/01/2021 18:04

Think the NEU are about to announce a socialist revolution.

Talking about child poverty and how it is a political issue.

MrsHamlet · 26/01/2021 18:09

I did a bad thing. I went to a friend's house and went in and had a cup of tea. We teach together and I'm really really really worried about her mental health. I know it's not allowed but I am so worried.
I've been nowhere. She's been nowhere. It felt like the right thing to do.

SansaSnark · 26/01/2021 18:10

NEU announcement: helpachildtolearn.com/donate

Nothing to do with school reopening/vouchers.

You're a great friend Thanks

I hope she's ok.
