You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Why are you sharpening a stick at both ends MrsH??

chocolateisavegetable · 30/01/2021 20:03

Carrie great article - thanks for sharing

Monkey so pleased for you

MrsHamlet · 30/01/2021 20:06

It's not for you piggy. I can't read about your sad demise without a very unseemly gulping and sniffing.
I've been accused of being a cold hearted witch and a mercenary idiot for daring to suggest that the fact that it's a vocation means school staff get the piss taken.
Honestly.... year 9 have better insults

Piggywaspushed · 30/01/2021 20:09

Goodness! I was born with an extra toe. I am a witch...

JanuaryChill · 30/01/2021 20:11

I was born on 31 October, apparently that makes me a witch.....

MrsHamlet · 30/01/2021 20:18

I'm working on getting my own Enemy of Education T-shirt....

Piggywaspushed · 30/01/2021 20:28

Perhaps this?

MrsHamlet · 30/01/2021 20:28

That's brilliant!!! Can we get a set for the staffroom? ;)

JanuaryChill · 30/01/2021 20:29

How would we know whose was whose though.....

JanuaryChill · 30/01/2021 20:32

Hey that gives me an idea for if we ever met up in RL, we could each have a mug / naice brooch with our usernames on. I wouldn't cope otherwise!

Have also decided I would regret the amount of alcohol this occasion would inevitably involve.....

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 30/01/2021 21:11

I notice that the usual 'my husband is a consultant' nonsense is fully back in the teacher threads now - disappeared for a few months there, but now we're back to being nowhere near as good as a man who is also just doing his job.

TrashedWarrior · 30/01/2021 21:12

Lol, I'll have to shirted my name further to just trashed and fill it with gin.

I've literally just discovered how to do this:

5°C.

And œ.

TrashedWarrior · 30/01/2021 21:12

Shorten.

Only 1.5 glasses of cava...?!

cantkeepawayforever · 30/01/2021 21:18

Apologies, all. I may have resorted to blowing my own trumpet a little loudly on that thread. I am, however, SICK of being denigrated.....

How how how?

Just watched more of 'Ackley Bridge' with dd. The teachers in it break just about every safeguarding rule you can think of. And get away with it (so far).

MrsHamlet · 30/01/2021 21:45

Might I suggest that the enemies tour involves two nights away.... one to get mildly tipsy slaughtered and one to recover.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/01/2021 22:30

There's a real danger that would end up as two nights getting slaughtered though.

Lovely news, monkey.

JanuaryChill · 30/01/2021 22:38

Rafals, can't see where you're coming from myself..... Grin

This is a good article (by a journalist who's a teacher's spouse), just a shame they get Gav's name wrong and use a pic with a masked teacher in front of a vast blackboard:

www.independent.co.uk/voices/teacher-coronavirus-school-safety-b1795126.html?fbclid=IwAR1ANj6PCq9wlPhPqe5_fexJdJXgm-7Wp2zJFUxp1p4ZPpFzibo3OEOZkRc

The government presiding over teacher-bashing as a national sport, consorting with fringe groups, and its unwillingness to listen to more sensible voices, including unions, is going to make a bad situation worse.

KatherineOfGaunt · 31/01/2021 00:05

@JanuaryChill - I wasn't sure about Ackley Bridge. The storylines seemed ripped from other teacher series and they just happened so fast. Storylines came and went in a matter of minutes, it seemed!

This is an amazing Twitter thread about transmission and schools, with analysis and data.

twitter.com/dgurdasani1/status/1346362159446577154?s=21

I don't think it will tell anyone here anything they don't know but it's just very good at pulling apart the grounds of false claims.

I'm sitting here, looking out of the window at a clear, blue morning and trying hard to imagine somewhere to walk to that will use it to its best. It's surprisingly hard.

TrashedWarrior · 31/01/2021 08:25

Thanks to all commenting on the numbers thread.

The anti school data discussion rhetoric was quite offensive at times.

I cba due to fragile stress levels.
