You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

So many people I know have got dogs recently - I think almost everyone I know in fact, slightly weirdly. Not us. I never want to pick up animal shit in my hands, even with a bag.

I'm really struggling with motivation today. It's my only non-child day, so really need to do all planning for next week so I can get it up by 4pm and have a weekend, but meh.

Saucery · 29/01/2021 11:17

It's the last summer before DS heads off to uni so I will not be giving up any part of it to cover in any capacity.
Also getting a dog later this spring. Been too long without one and our house feels like it's missing a piece. This year has shown life is for living and so I'm not waiting any longer.

flumposie · 29/01/2021 11:58

Summer school is also a no from me. I'd rather quit.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/01/2021 12:04

OK - can I block an individual kid on teams from accessing the 'team chat'? Not the meeting chat - the general board one?

Little shit just threatened one of the mums with his mum after lockdown. What the actual fuck?!

Oh god. Can you get a screen shot of that?

Send it to the behaviour manager, they should be banned for a few lessons for that.

WhenSheWasBad · 29/01/2021 12:11

Just had a painful lease on with Year 9. Set most of them off on an independent task. One kid stayed on with me so I could explain it.

He still doesn’t get it, and I can’t think of a way to explain it in a more simple way.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/01/2021 12:13

Oh yes, I've done a screen shot. I've blocked them all for now while I wait for guidance from on high.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/01/2021 12:22

The most educationally vulnerable are often vulnerable precisely because their engagement with school is difficult at the best of times

Exactly, unless you targeted it and made it compulsory, you’ll just end up with the kids with supportive parents, increasing the gap for disadvantaged children further.

I spotted that thread and ignored it monkey. They’ll be a bit less smug when they realise not much changes until the world is vaccinated, not just the U.K. and if the caution over using the AZ vaccine in over 65s proves to be correct. Vaccine nationalism is a bit pointless.

Frlrlrubert · 29/01/2021 12:26

Rule - I think you can remove them from the team so they can access they channel at all. That's what we've been told to do if they abuse the chat, because they can carry on outside the meeting in the main chat.

You can add them back later when the situation is sorted.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/01/2021 12:29

Our problem is not having had a policy on this. I suspect.

Child is EAL and SEND, parents don't speak English.

Problem also is that there is reams of shit on there, which I'm now going to have to read to find the other examples of him doing it (apparently).

What we also need to be able to do is delete the whole general channel chat at the end of every day. But you need admin rights for that.

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 12:54

Sorry can I just jump on and ask, has anyone been given guidelines for behaviour for the KWV in school? And any idea how we ensure older ones are using our IT for live lessons rather than gaming (I know!)?Yes we walk round, even ask them what lessons they've got that day AND use Impero to monitor screens from the main desk.

But short of a1:1 staff member monitoring that child the whole time, we can't force them, can we? I think the oik in question should be put on report, digitally, myself!

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 12:56

Seeing yr stuff too rule, the trouble is we're all learning as we go, aren't we? And kids tend to learn ways round boundaries faster than we can foresee them!

EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 29/01/2021 13:56

Any of you lovely lot got any clever ideas for revising online, needs at least 10 minutes of me doing something at the start but would like to get them doing something in breakout rooms. Y10/9. My brain hurts and is completely blank. Only this one lesson to plan and then I can actually have a weekend. Don't know if I'm being more efficient or lowering my standards significantly.

Piggywaspushed · 29/01/2021 14:03

Are you Teams or GC?

EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 29/01/2021 14:15

Teams

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/01/2021 15:04

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot yes you can. Go into your class team and click the three dots next to the team name and then manage team then members. There is a box along from each name which says ‘mute’ tick this and that individual student cannot post in chat (meeting) or posts in team until you unmute them. They can speak in a live lesson on their mic. You can tick them off and on whenever you like.

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/01/2021 15:05

@EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation what subject again?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 29/01/2021 15:13

EvilEdnas what subject?

EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 29/01/2021 15:16

Sorry, should have realised the subject was important! Science. I'm not a lazy person honestly I'm just so exhausted I'm out of ideas

HerdyGerdy · 29/01/2021 15:30

Cloze activités for revising terminology?
Creating mini quizzes for each other?
Problem solving activity?
If this is the answer, what is the question?
Prep for 'Just a Minute' on a specific topic?

Don't apologise for being knackered - my brain is increasingly not functioning. I tried to use the word 'feathers' to describe 'leaves' to Yr7 in the week...

Do you have revision mats/broadsheets? I'd put them in groups and tell them to get as many correct answers as possible in however long. You could share the document beforehand so they can write on their own (or some techy collaborative thing?)

Super, thanks.

He's a gonner.

FlagsFiend · 29/01/2021 15:43

For a fun game I recommend Quizlet live as a revision activity. Set up a Quizlet with the keywords and definitions. Do a few practise runs as individuals, then press random teams. They get shown a definition and only one in their team has the right answer - they need to click whilst everyone else waits (and tries to communicate telepathically the correct answer).

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/01/2021 15:44

Bloody awful Friday, which means now I'm behind in both planning AND marking. Dealing with some little shit. I suppose this is more like normal teaching though, huh!

MrsHamlet · 29/01/2021 15:47

My visualiser killed the sound on my laptop today so they could hear me but not me them. Year 11 were hard. Y10 might as well have been dead.
What a shit day.
