You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Hello all! Love reading your posts today 😂

Back from opticians and my sight has got significantly more long sighted since end of August. Combo of age but also better blood sugar control recently - particularly last week.l hence my sudden inability to see. Embarrassingly I cried when she showed me how I would see with new prescription - I think I was worried my eyes were fucked and I was going blind 🤦‍♀️

CallmeAngelina · 28/01/2021 18:12

You have to be an approved follower of that bloke on Twitter, piggy.

Piggywaspushed · 28/01/2021 18:15

I am just a disapproving follower.

CallmeAngelina · 28/01/2021 18:19

Whoah, anyone watching the news? An MP, Desmond Swain is being hauled over the coals for association and promotion of a group that turns out to be anti-vac. They didn't say the name of the group, but I'm sure U4T were championing him on their page???

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2021 18:27

Sir Desmond Swayne to you, Ange

He’s a proper covid denier. Which is why, of course, he supports Us4Them.

[quote Piggywaspushed]I am not going to call him out on twitter but this guy is a headteacher. A HEADteacher. Would you work for him??

Can you call him out on here? I can’t see what he’s written. Harris Academy though, I’m sure it’s not unreasonable at all.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/01/2021 18:33

No I wouldn't work for that head. He's not a head though really, those dudes at Harris don't innovate or owt.

So is that who the BBC were referring to, but wouldn't actually name? And if so, why not?
noblegiraffe · 28/01/2021 18:41

No, I don’t think it was them, I think he also supports properly open anti-vaxx groups.

He’s anti-mask, anti-lockdown, generally despicable.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 28/01/2021 18:48

I could see his profile earlier and now I can't. There was some spouting about Rosen and a few other nasty tweets about covid.

Harris says it all.

borntobequiet · 28/01/2021 18:58

My favourite quote from Desmond Swayne is

”We had a meeting last week and everybody was perfectly sane.”

Worst day of lockdown so far and it was one of my days off. Trying to get very stubborn 8 year old to do the work he hadn't done on my working days

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 28/01/2021 19:30

I wonder if Harris academy schools have a recruitment problem.
I know round here, there a couple of schools that most teachers give a wide swerve when looking to move on. I think trainees get advised as well.
Just so it is clear to an lurkers - because of the management, not the kids.

Was this posted on here? So sad awful.

WOW!! Read that on the Echo - the original article never mentioned her being a RQT!! She couldn't have possibly caught it in school though Angry

I bribed my 4 year old to do his reading today (in between teaching 5 lessons to fucking timetable). One chocolate button per sentence read or word written. He ended up with 4.5 chocolate buttons.... I have ended up on wine.
EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 28/01/2021 19:34

His Minecraft world is coming on amazingly though ....Hmm

Frlrlrubert · 28/01/2021 19:37

Can I just come in and hide by the biscuits?

Tutor phone calls today (2 hours), I am not cut out for pastoral!

Had to hand in my 'skills assessment' for our redundancy process - might have panicked and pretty much offered to teach anything going 🙈

hedgehogger1 · 28/01/2021 19:38

I've invested in parental control software so I can block stuff til the school day is over. There is an ever growing blocked list.

hedgehogger1 · 28/01/2021 19:40

That teacher that's died was so young! Practically a child herself :(

JanuaryChill · 28/01/2021 19:42

Have people seen the NEU's Recovery Plan? Weird timing because it's surely more announcement worthy than the buying of pencils....

If you click through it's supported (?) by something called Action Squared which has been involved with environmental coalition etc etc. Not had time to look further but I wouldn't imagine the right wing would be very impressed with it.

I have parental controls as well, but I also need him to be occupied during my lessons so he doesn't zoom bomb or scream outside the door too much. God I hate this.

My worst would be PE. I loathe sport so don’t even know the rules to most games. They mostly involve a ball going in a net but that’s pretty much all I know.
I’d be shit at art too.

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2021 19:46

I had to make phone calls today to make up for missed appointments due to fucking soundcloud.

God I missed the 5 minute limit.

DD took an hour to do a bloody maths worksheet today on dividing by 5. Taking the piss.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 28/01/2021 19:48

There's a very prominent maths edutweeter who works at a Harris. I can never quite get if they actually like it or the tweets are ironic. They haven't mentioned their workplace in a while...

We're overrun with PE teachers and I have a bad back so definitely not! My worst would be English - I love it but don't think I could teach it.

Hopefully won't be required but we are quite heavy as a department - two are already teaching KS3 maths!
