You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

I couldn’t stop myself! I went onto a thread in AIBU. Lobbed a grenade and got out

*I understand everyone's concerned but we can't stay with only key workers children forever.

What will be different by September?

Aren't we better off taking small groups and getting them used to it?*

I don't disagree with this to an extent, but:

a) Testing is still a shambles- proper testing needs to be in place before we open more schools and workplaces.

b) Teachers should not find out about this on national TV with very little information about how it will work and vague maybes. I was in school on Friday and our MAT CEO didn't know anything then.

c) There's no reason that primary age children should be first, except from a childcare point of view. IMO, we are better having Y10 back first who can social distance and need to be in schools more. We could also start with a smaller group, not 3 year groups at once.

d) Everyone deserves proper reassurance that teachers, pupils and their families will be safe. IMO, the briefing did not give us that.

SansaSnark · 10/05/2020 21:43

Sorry, bold fail there!

FrippEnos · 10/05/2020 21:44

The new threads are interesting, a spread of horror at the years going back, some saying that they won't be sending their children in and a mass of people moaning that its not their kids going back.
Its almost as if some posters are starting to think about what could go wrong.

Its hugely amusing.

There has been a couple of pot shots at the NEU as well.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/05/2020 21:45

Not all R and Yr 1 students will be in. It is ‘tiny steps’. The schools still have to work out how SD will work

Judging by some of the posts I’ve seen, I’m not sure that message has made it through.

MossWalk · 10/05/2020 21:50

I'm on KEYU and Twinkl KS1 on FB and for once they're both outraged.

Hercwasonaroll · 10/05/2020 21:55

There's no reason that primary age children should be first, except from a childcare point of view.

Just seen on twitter that sending reception and y1 might be deliberate to see the effect they have on the R rate, knowing that they can't realistically social distance. Therefore if there is a huge effect they will close schools again wheras if there isn't they have some evidence for opening fully in September.

I hope tomorrow's document brings more clarity.

It's ok to be angry, upset, frustrated, fed up, have millions of questions.

If this is true- and I agree it might be- given the stuff that came out about Kawasaki's disease recently, aren't the government basically carrying out a mass experiment with small children and their families.

That is not ok.

mlou93 · 10/05/2020 22:05

Primary teacher here.
I'm sat here howling with laughter at the thread about somebody trying to send/sneak their children into school tomorrow!
Hoping it's a wind up.

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 22:07

And the teachers of the said small children and their families!

I firmly believe it's to see how the R value is affected as they'll be doing zero social distancing. I am not going to enjoy going in, but I will. Just got to figure out how best to protect my family. Unlike parents, us teachers have no choice about going back.

SansaSnark · 10/05/2020 22:08

@mlou93 I haven't seen that thread, but how do they think that is going to work?

We have had parents turning up at our hub school begging for their kids to come back, but no-one's thought they could sneak a child into the building yet!

mlou93 · 10/05/2020 22:10

@SansaSnark, apparently they'll dress them in their school uniform and just send them in! Honestly. Hmm

pinkrocker · 10/05/2020 22:13

Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall watching them being sent home Grin

SansaSnark · 10/05/2020 22:25

Do they think teachers don't know who's in school?

The ones at my MAT hub are in non-uniform anyway, so sending them in in uniform would make them stick out more!

RigaBalsam · 10/05/2020 22:27

Got to be a wind up . Someone posted a screenshot that said they were a teacher.

Go on which one of you was it? Grin🤣🤣

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 22:30

They'd stick out like a sore thumb at our state primary - no uniform being worn!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 10/05/2020 22:30

Think that thread has been taken down. Honestly, the stupidity of some people on this site continues to amaze me.

Hopefully we will have a clearer idea of plans in the next few days.

Not biting on.any teacher threads. Too busy on my local groups, who are trying to find ways of stopping the English sneaking over and sitting on our benches.Grin

Truly, the golden age of sm.

DreamingofBrie · 10/05/2020 22:38

Just checking in Brew. How do these threads move so fast?

Will read it all later!

GuyFawkesDay · 10/05/2020 22:38

Very glad I hid the Coronavirus sections!

WhyNotMe40 · 10/05/2020 22:41

I know it's a bit morbid - but are the unions tracking numbers of school workers who have died? What about outbreaks in schools?
How are they going to assess risk of they don't know how things are working currently, and how transmission was gout before schools closed?

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 22:45

The NEU is as they tweet it. But, no one knows where people caught the virus, of course.

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/05/2020 22:45

Just arriving for thread four. I’ve got my own mug and chocolate and peanut butter brownies...

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 10/05/2020 22:47

Sorry missed a whole thread - I've been too busy stockpiling buckets. Did I miss much?

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 22:47

You are going to have to explain the uniforms and sneaking in? Whaa?

I've been watching Van Der valk : two years of my life I won't get back.
